As a fan of the other Sonic games since Unleashed, is there anything of value for me in playing either version of Boom? I played the Wii U demo and didn't like it but is there anything to salvage in the game or should I just keep ignoring it completely?

I just got my pre-order for Forces set and it should be here on launch day. Here's to hoping it's tolerable, at the minimum.

The only thing of value that came out of the Boom franchise is the cartoon and the short-lived comic.

Deserters of The Forces are punched dead by resistance leader Knuckles.
They didn't need to get punched to death

Apparently in game, he gets 80% of the people on his squad killed due to his own fuck up.

Not gonna lie, I like Boom Knuckles better than Sonic Team's Knuckles.
I'm gonna try and communicate this , in a very succinct way because who wants a have a dumb conversation about how comedy works. But to put it simply, boom knuckles and Boom shadow are terrible they are not just terrible characters in the case that they lack characters, they aren't just terrible in the sense that they are terrible in the show, but he's a paradox that only exists due to bad characterization and bad writing. Not they are bad characters, which they are, they are in themselves bad writing.

So I disagree, through tumbles and character fumbles, I still enjoy that version of knuckles the sega one than boom. Boom knuckles is a walking paradox that isn't really funny.

In 2018, I plan on playing various 3D Sonic games (2006 not among them) as I want to give each game proper impressions

I kinda want to play 06 someday since I've never played it. Not the best idea I know.

I'm of the opinion that 06, is absolutely a "so bad it's good" game.
Like, I can comfortably say I had fun with how batshit it is.

i honestly would say 06 is about the calibre of the other Sonic games around the era if the loading was instant

You guys HYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDD yet? Sonic Forces is almost here!

I decided to import the game from the UK to save a few Ausland Funbux so I'll be waiting a week or two to actually get it. The saving isn't much on its own but I'm cool enough on the game that I'm okay with the wait and it adds up a bit since I'm getting Doom and Snipperclips Plus as well this week.

Recently finished Forces and guess what? It stinks. I mean I came in expecting at least another Generations and was met with:

- Poor level design that are extremely short and forgettable
- Poor controls (sonic still feels like he's walking on ice and weighs a ton when jumping)
- Poor use of the villains (Chaos is basically there for the trailer)
- And overall a lack luster plot that leaves a lot to be desired

I did however like some of these ideas even though they weren't fleshed out properly:

- Infinite is a cool villain. He sounds like your cliche Jap anime bad guy but he has his moments.
- The avatar system, though basic, has room to grow in future Sonic games
- the setting and plot felt more 'serious'. Now I'm not asking for a dark world or setting but the idea of Eggman (Robotnik) taking over the world and have Sonic lead a resistance group is the core of classic Sonic's plot/world building. It wasn't done that well here but the theme should carry over at least.

All in all another example of how Sonic Team don't know what they're doing. I even went back to playing SA2 and the difference is night and day. Like, what the hell happened? I think they should just ditch the boost mechanic and have levels with momentum and better controls. Of course that would be asking too much. I just hope Mania gave them some perspective of what makes a good sonic game. It's not about 3D sonic games being bad it's about the people who make them that don't know what they're doing.

I'm pretty sure they were up-front about Forces having DRM this time, so I doubt there will be a two-week delay just to add it as with Mania.

Old post but had to quote it since I realized I never responded. I was concerned less about DRM stuff and more about Forces getting a shaky PC port given how everything else about the game seemed to have panned out.

And judging by its Steam page right now I'm disappointed that my worry was a little justified. It sounds like everyone was getting hit up with a uniform crash, but it seems just now Sega patched things up.

I don't even know what the next 4d sonic team sonic is even going to play like, not going back to lost world obviously, idk whether it will be a 5th boost game or not.

heres my idea for a new sonic game:
basically colors 2

- dont shoehorn classic sonic into games anymore, he was a neat anniversary event but its clear the mania team can do him way better than sonic team ever could.
- make new creative enviroments with 5/6 acts of modern sonic's mix of 2d and 3d gameplay in it. Stop with Green Hill and Chemical Plant
- have a lighthearted story that doesnt get too in the way.
- and for gods sake bring back crush 40 to make the theme song.

Classic is not good in Forces.

But his stages might be the best part of the game.

From the last Forces prologue comic:

I was not expecting either of these references.

Yeah I would have preferred a more serious approach. As it stands, Forces is a mishmash of darker elements and lighter comedic moments that don't mesh well together. An oppressive atmosphere like the old SatAM stuff would have been a more cohesive and unique formula, especially considering the "Eggman won" story. Eggman in Forces is way too goofy to sell the premise.

Yup! All in all Forces is just a game without focus and half-assed ideas.

Where can I get the Sonic Forces comic from again? Is it available digitally anywhere?

Also, Liam O'brien voices Infinite. I didn't care for him before but I am starting to like him.
