MLB The Show 18 |OT| Monster Dongs for a New ERA

Thanks for the advice! I'll play a few exhibition games in beginners and try to get a feel for the pitch speed and timing.
There's something... I dunno just a bit wrong about The Show giving you the Impact Veteran version of players like Ruth, Doby and Torre to start with. I imagine for a lot of The Show players this will be their introduction to players like Doby. And to imagine that people will start with the end of career, mangled knees, bronze rated version of these players that were MVPs and some of the best players of their eras is a real bummer.
Well on my way to a bunch. Basically unlocked all the players that require a couple souvenirs and exchanges. Now, just have to play the game, and somehow find a way for Chris Carter to have an RBI and a walk in the same game. Which may never happen.
$100. Selling dupes of diamonds/golds to fund the other purchases. I'll put 300+ hours into this thing (almost hit 400 last year) so it's good value for me. Shrug.

My thoughts after 3 days playing only Diamond Dynasty:
- Love the smooth online experience. No hitches, no disconnects, fairplay opponents. I hope it doesn't implode on Tuesday when it launches officially.
- Love the smooth menu. No waiting 2 minutes when looking at inventory.
- Love the new souvenir, autograph cards. It's a nice change.
Dislikes:
- The programs are just too confusing and really tough to get around. Open each one, then flip R1/L1 between pages to see all requirements. Took me at least 2 hours the first day to organize everything, and I'm still disorganized :-)
- Overall tiers have been lowered. Gold, Silver and Diamond now all start 5 overall points lower. Meaning that now those guaranteed silvers in multipacks are basically better bronzes.
It just seems to me that I will be buying much fewer packs this year because of that. They've simply made it too tedious to see what I need to do.
But that just means that I'll spend more time (and less money) on RTTS and Franchise, modes I've neglected lately because of great DD mode.
I bought a $100 edition, gotten shit out of 30 packs. So maybe a bit peeved for going with that package, but I don't mind much.

Now I know the mode is redesigned with the archetypes, how you train, etc., but if it is anything like the past with it's foundation, you can only pick 3 pitches starting out. As you 'level up' you can add/learn additional pitches.
Yeah, they seemed to add new features, when I turned mine on from sleep mode I was brought to the screen. Glad it was as intended by them, lol.
The way the logic works now, it recognizes him as a Pitcher first and foremost. A workaround is subbing him into that position during a game, albeit cumbersome, so hopefully they work on something more streamlined.
Getting a double and another hit with George Brett is going to be the death of me. I've done 40-50+ attempts at this one fuckin mission. Oh my god I hate it.

I think the way its intended to work is that there will be an Ohtani as a hitter/fielder card separately. For example, Babe Ruth has different cards depending on whether he's in the field or a pitcher.
Nothing like taking out a conquest base and coming back to the servers being offline. Happened twice so far.

Hey guys, a little new to the series, haven't played any since last gen and even then I didn't play much. Is there a way to get more equipment for my RTTS player that doesn't involve paying money for stubs? Like, is there a nice gameplay loop in any other modes that will give me stubs/equipment/packs/unlocks consistently? I bought it mostly for RTTS but I'm okay with dipping into other modes too if it can feed my equipment. Absolutely addicted to this at the moment.
I wonder if logo creators will start taking commissions, since they finally added a search option for the Logo Vault. Something I've been wanting for a long time now.
Might end up buying it this year. I've held off the last 3 years or so because THe SHow is a game that I used to buy every year and it just made me depressed because I was so bad. I still think I'll be really bad, but... I get that itch to be punished once every few years.
Might just stick with Super Mega 2 when it comes out though. If Super Mega had a decent franchise mode, even with fake players, but just something that followed a decent season/schedule with player improvements and roster management, then that's all I'd need. Super Mega's season mode has basically always just been "Play 28 independent games... sequentially," and then they forced in the player improvement stuff. Super Mega's gameplay, though, is just so damn good.

I REALLY wish SDS would let you update rosters on in session RTTS players. I'm missing half of the big stars in the league because I started this character the first year we could transfer between games. No Kris Bryant, Altuve got drafted by the Cubs and just sits in AAA, none of the stud pitchers are on their proper team, and I'm literally the only decent player on the Cubs right now. No pitching, no all stars, just a bunch of fake draft picks on my team.

The downside I've seen if that it doesn't show all instances of a term used in titles. If you don't know the exact title somebody used, you don't get any results.
For anyone looking for a speedy player in diamond dynasty check out Byron Buxton (silver high 70). In conquest mode got two legit inside the park home runs with him yesterday. 99 speed, great bunting to advance runners and if he hits it over the infield there is a good chance it will be +1 base another player would normally get too
Something I've noticed sadly. Right now, it's better than no search. Lol.
I just cannot get the hang of hitting this year, for that first time ever I always have good timing but everything is either a grounder or pop up. Also fielding needs to be adjusted, way too many good defensive fielders just taking their times turning double plays or throwing to first base.
Also the amount of errors is very weird, not saying they don't happen, but in a ranked season game I had three ground balls hit to my shortstop twice and one to my third baseman and they just booted them. For bronze fielders or even silver sure. But when they're two gold cards and the better fielders for their positions kinda makes me ticked off. Also, I've had a lot of balls just go right through outfielders and they run past them.

In 1971, Brooks Robinson, arguably the greatest third baseman of all time, had 3 errors... in one inning.

1) The servers still suck. Not an abysmal dumpster fire as last year but boy its still annoying.
2) Still waiting for my 10 preorder bonus packs code from Best Buy... as are pretty much every else who preordered from them? Their customer support is clueless and the MLB Show Tips twitter account has twice told me to send them an email and they've never responded. Honestly ridiculous how they can't even bother giving a straight answer as to whats going on.
Also I'm glad the time honored tradition of 20 packs being an actual better value than 50 packs is still here.

So what's the general vibe on this game so far? Picked up the last game and got super addicted to RTTS but I'm honestly not even a huge baseball fan.
Hitting feels really nice this year. I actually feel that it makes sense where the ball goes off the bat, given the timing and pitch type. Too many comebackers for my liking, but I'd be perfectly OK if they stuck with this for a few years.

FYI, I believe this year you are penalised for having players play out of position as well. I have seen it a lot in Diamond Dynasty mode as people want to stack up on their best players even if they don't field the position. I have seen some bad errors due to that. It's a great idea.
I don't think anybody knows. Its bizarre. Maybe Amazon just hates the Yankees.
They probably don't want to offer the 20% discount for pre-ordering. I'm guessing it won't show in-stock until tomorrow or Wednesday. I went ahead and got the digital edition this year for 20% off...I almost have one shelf dedicated to MLB The Show copies, I don't need anymore lol.
Loving the game so far. Got Anthony Rizzo in one of my packs and flipped him for 40k stubs and was able to build a pretty decent Diamond team.
Does this game not have the old regular "season" mode where you just play spring training + 162 regular season games? All I see is franchise mode.
I agree completely. Bad fielders should be bad, out of position guys worse, and everyone should have some errors mixed in because baseball.
Yeah, defense matters this time around. Putting players even in their secondary position is risk.
If you are putting out somebody with less than 50 fielding....good luck. You'll also notice that low defense players won't have access to top tier animations for challenging defensive plays (i.e, some scrub Short Stop won't do that Jeter throw).
As a side note - is anyone else finding themselves being late on curveballs, moreso than fastballs. And yeah, my TV (sony xbr is pretty decent, 31ms on game mode) so that's less than 2 frames. It can't be because of that. I played MLB 17 on my gaming monitor which was 9ms of lag. That 0.022 second of lag can't be whats throwing my timing off.
