Sorry about that Daora last night ObstrucT. Girl wouldn't stop bugging me about being hungry and I got distracted trying to argue, then when I died I gave up and went to Dennys -_-

Breaking the head of Daora is not an easy task I must say. I have maxed out handicraft and I'm using the affinity booster as much as I can but no matter how much I hit the head during the fight it doesn't break until the last phase. And that's also using 4 mega barrels.

Think I'm gonna try out that charm that increases the success rate of breaking parts...

It's because it can't break period until it's under 15%. Same with teo. Breaking them use to stop some of their abilities.
That k good you can carve horns. They are still rare, but you should easily build a small collection on your Chase for gems. Never expect to break the horn in multiplayer. The extra health it gets on top of the general dps of everyone hitting everything but the horn means you will almost always miss that window.

.

I was wondering if negative values above -10 do anything. I remember that first wii u game, it didn't matter if you had -9. It only got worse with elemental resistance when you crossed -10. I saw a comment on another board that said it's percentage. So -1 will affect you, even if slightly.

Was going to make a GS HR set with Bazel and Damascus. Gives me -14 thunder. I can maybe gem in thunder resistance to decrease it some. Trying to assess if it's worth it. If it raises me above -10 and it will have no affect, sure, it's worth it. I don't know but I can't find a good answer.

Yup, it's percentage. The more negative it is the higher your chance and severity of blight is.

Ffs when you have a two silver and two gold Jho investigation, use a voucher and don't get a gem.
Is there a reason we can't craft Jho gems with the golden wyvern ticket?...

So what ARE the best ways to get crowns? Randomly do investigations for said monster?
Apparently investigations with more difficulty modifiers increase the chances. So a 15 minute, 1 faint, 2 player only investigation is what you want. Also I think the event quests with multiple monsters have higher chances for crowns

I've been mainly positing in the beginners hangout but since the game has really sunk it's teeth into me i figured I'd move to the regular OT.

I've really been getting into using Heavy Bow gun and I think it's likely going to be my main. I just got to the Elders recess last night which I'm assuming is where the end game really starts since they are starting to talk about the elder dragons in the story.

So I wanted to ask if anyone could give me some suggestions on some armor sets to shoot for that compliment Heavy Bow Gun. I'm currently using Zora Magdoros armor and weapons which I like so far but the Bow gun seems really limited in the types of ammo that it has available to it.

I hope I'm able to get a ton of gold crowns when the events come back, I tried hunting from investigations but had no luck whatsoever, no huge or tiny counted for some reason, decided to give up until the events so it's hopefully easier with less monsters to hunt.

It's super easy for me to get 1 shot playing ranged, I guess I get too greedy.

Well my luck ran out. 2 warped stones and they ended up being steadfast and footing jewels. What a waste.

The big question that you have to ask yourself when you play with blowguns is: what ammo do I like to use? The skills should then be chosen to support those particular ammunitions. The HBG leans towards slow and hard hitting ammunitions like wyvern, cluster and such so look for skills that support those; skills like Artillery and Special Ammo Boost. The Teostra set might be of particular interest as it covers such skills.

The Zorah set is a "jack of all trades, master of none" kind of set that enchances weapons with blast build up or frees up locked elements. I would only use a few of its pieces as combining the whole set won't give you strength in anything, especially defense.

My best advice is just to experiment a lot and really try the different skills out to see what effect they have on your own enjoyment and personal playstyle. I went with a lot of skills early on that made some basic stuff easier, like sheathing speed, evasion distance and so on. But then I moved on to try to experiment with more complicated builds that really brought out the strength of my weapons and my interest in tanking. But the knowledge of how everything actually feels and works will in the end make you discover those perfect synergies that keep the enjoyment to a maximum.

E: Finally done. That's a long ass fight.

Got a gem from my first kill though!

Here's my Nergi arena vid for all the arena lovers... There must be dozens of us!

This was fantastic, thanks for sharing. If you ever do the Nergi arena with CB please do share as well.

The digital version of this is on sale from Walmart at the moment, tried to buy it from Europe here but wouldn't let me due to my payment method/address :(

Oh well.

If you're on PS4, you can very easily get a 20% off coupon right now, though you'd need a US account.

Finally fully researched all the monsters. Now all I have are 20 more arena quests, getting to HR 100, all of the multiplayer stuff (I haven't touch online at all lol), and all of the crowns.

God, those crown trophies are going to blow.

Congrats! Took me a while to get 3x Artillery jewel and 1x Magazine jewel. I actually have 5x Attack jewel, but only 1x Guard jewel.
Ugh. I still only have 1 artillery jewel and no magazine jewels. I'm afraid I'll never be able to drop these Dodogama Greaves. And if I had more Artillery Jewels I'd try out dropping my Artillery Charm and see how Handicraft 5 works.

Oh wow, HBG with 2x Shield is amazing, my very first fight using it was against HR Diablos, it was incredible, not a single hit on me and had the poor creature sleeping at will, broke it's horns at the very first 5 seconds of the fight. Funnily enough Diablos stills gives me problem even more than BD which I find a walk in the park, only thing I hate about BD is that it spams ramming waaay too much so it goes from one side of the map to the other endlessly most of the fight.

Getting some of these rare 7 and 8 jewels is such a hassle, but I suppose it pays off eventually when we can make better sets with greater ease.

Pierce jewel 3!! Glad I recently decided to use guns more often.

*oof*

Double Tempered Bazel quest done. That was...Something else. First time fighting that thing.

Fuuuuuck him.

He may be the "hardest" monster for me so far. I tried the quest SOS twice and it went terribly. Turns out that it was best to solo it. Let the two Bazel beat each other up. Worked out great-ish.

It took me 37 minutes, but it's done. HR 33. Gotta grind rank now!

I wish I were that lucky, I need so many Vaal fangs and Daora Horns but they keep dying before breaking those parts.
I have PTSD about Vaal Fangs+. Biggest bullshit drop in the game. I got gems more easily than this shit!

And yes, I broke the head every time. It would sometimes still drop only 1, or even 0, despite having an investigation with 2 silvers and 1 gold. Needed 5 or 6 goddamn fangs for my lance and it was a nightmare. xD At least it wasn't an overly long hunt and it's piss-easy with the effluvium-resist, but still.

I've been this situation too, got more than 200 scale but only 10+ Vaal fang

Diablos is fond of doing that, too. I like being able to tank its charges with my GL shield without a sweat, but then I have to bunny hop after it only for it to charge again the moment I catch up.

And if I don't follow it and wait for it to come back to me, it suddenly decides that its current side of the map is pretty chill and goes camping there.

I was just showing my weapon usage in the beginner's thread, but decide to share it here too. All Charge Blade!! (been playing MH since MHF2)

Enjoy the game the way you want but as someone who uses all weapons, I personally don't see what there is to celebrate. I see the merits of having a main weapon. Intentionally limiting a game's variety sounds like a demerit to me.

If you had seen my post in the beginner thread, then you'll understand. I'll branch out to other weapons later on. I'm happy with my CB as it is.

They really need to either patch out the tempered Kushala bullshit OHKO, he's just turning around for fucks sake. At least add a new animation or remove this glitch Capcom

I don't know if it's because I'm fighting him as melee now but Kushala seems to be super obnoxious with roars and tornadoes at the moment - I don't recall it being this bad previously.

Semi-related, but I did a 15 minute hunt on him the other day where someone flashed him EVERY DAMN TIME in the tornado. Needless to say we ran out of time. Feels bad man. :(

That's fine, even if you were to stick to a single weapon that would also be fine. It is just my opinion that branching earlier is more rewarding than branching later.
I see so many posts in the vein of "Why didn't you all tell me that (insert unpopular weapon) was so much fun? It is my new secondary weapon." Just to be followed by a "We did tell you it was the GOAT. You just didn't listen." responses from people who main that.
I've also been playing since the MHF2 days and at that time I played almost only Great Sword. I didn't realize until later that I was limiting my fun by not trying to learn bowguns or (gun)lances early in the game.
I also do not understand the Begginner's thread thing if you are a veteran from the MHF2 days. Are you there to help new hunters or did you drop the PSP games early? Just curious. :P

So I'm farming a lot of tempered monsters atm and in the hope of getting some valuable decorations. But how does the drop rate work exactly? Am I better off ignoring level 1-2 threats if I want rarity 7 or higher on my decorations?

Hey, I figured out every monsters moveset except for Black Diablo. Any pointers on how to beat him without fainting twice? His charge attack follows you even when you try to dodge him and his outbox is huge at that. But it's funny that I can now beat everyone (maybe not tempered nigante) and only black Diablo is giving me issues...lol.

Last thing I heard is that level 2 investigations are the best for decos. I only ever really did level 3 because eventually you also want streamstones for augmentation and you get plenty decos along the way.

Oh really? Well I have a lot of those so maybe I should just keep going like I have up until now then. I don't know how augmentation works yet as I haven't unlocked it so I'm just focused on decorations.
