What's the age breakdown for people who watch news on TV?

What I'm asking is, how much of an issue will this be when the majority of baby boomers are dead?

John Oliver's segment about them left me sick to my stomach. Sinclair is an insidious cancer.

I watched my local CBS station read that fake news thing. Pretty gross, but the vast majority of people watch the NBC station for local news, so that's comforting.

The people who are more likely to be affected like this are the people who are already at the highest danger of falling into The Bubble anyway.

look at sinclairs connection to russia nd putin

What will this accomplish? Who cares if they are connected to Russia? The New York Times is connected to the US. What matters is what the policies they espouse, the people they prop up etc. In both cases these sources are a net negative, and yet all we seem to focus on is a Russian connection and nothing else. I get it. Trump is in power now so we focus a little more on him, where was everyone before that? I can't speak for you, but it seems incredibly common that liberals don't even pretend to give a shit about the problems in our country until a Republican is in power. Now all problems are their fault, but when it's a Dem then they ignore the wars, the spying on citizens, the militarization of the police etc.It makes me incredibly pessimistic that any progress made to slow the right down or get rid of Trump etc will result in business as usual down the line.

I also would not be surprised is Sinclair is connected to RT beyond its hiring practices. Or Cambridge Analytica - while we're surmising stuff. Some of the stuff they're doing is counter to their best business interests - which should raise questions anyway.

But they wouldn't be the first or last media company to be run by a right wing jackass.

Sinclair owns the station that broadcasts ABC and Fox where I live, but they only upgraded their news to HD last month, so I wonder how many people actually watch it. The CBS station is by far the most popular here, as far as I know.

Last Week Tonight covered this last year

Yeah, the Last Week Tonight segment was really eye opening but it's not hard to see why it has fallen under the radar. It's the equivalent to the GOP doing all their gerrymandering, voter suppression, and crooked tactics on the local levels to control elections and get representative in Congress while Dems focus on the Presidential elections.

It's baby boomers and actual total TV viewing time in most of the western world hasn't dropped off a cliff yet. However that aggregate statistic hides the underlying trend - boomers are watching more and more TV than ever before, everyone else is stepping off. When the median boomer age hits the life expectancy you will see TV viewing time collapse. We are about 10yrs away from that so in the medium term this will do quite a bit of damage.

I'm in my 30's and I still occasionally watch our local news for local news and weather (via OTA antenna. Vue doesn't get our locals). Sadly I'm in the reddest county in FL and Sinclair owns all of the local stations. It was bad enough they were airing segments with Boris Epshteyn but now they are forcing the local anchors to spout their fakenews pro trump garbage? Yeesh.

A perfect demonstration of how all any crypto-fascist nutbag needs to control the country is a sufficient amount of money. Their encroaching presence has been public knowledge for ages, and now we're seeing the sick fruit but it may be far too late to stop.

The right will win! The left has no money. All the rich lefties are better off with the right in power. All these Dem politicians and "Left" cable news networks are rich and don't care which party is in power either way.

er...follow the lead of the money?

either you get it from industrialists or religious fundamentalists. when all that matters is if they can pay to own the network, that's what you get.

I think I'm dangerously close to the point where I'm officially numb towards how big of a farce American democracy is. This is sickening.

What self-respecting journalist gets this script and thinks "Yup, I'll read this aloud to an impressionable audience who trust me?"

Has there been any news of channels refusing to air this shit?

how do we turn that numbness into unbearable inflammation? do we need to rub the wound?

I know the term gets thrown around a lot, but The only thing that comes to mind is 1984.

All to discredit the big networks criticisms of Trump..

I'm gonna be honest, I've always thought that local news should present the news. Not propaganda. Either way. Cable has destroyed the concept of news for ratings and advertising. It's awful and a mistake on our culture. I wish I had Bill & Ted's capabilities so I could go back and make sure it never happened in American history.

Sinclair owns one of our local stations. They have a lot of job openings and I have experience in TV news but man, I just couldn't stomach applying. Their continued growth is very concerning, though. It seems the GOP propaganda machine is unstoppable.

Sinclair is going to quietly replace Fox News as the most dangerous aspect of the GOP propaganda machine and the FCC should have never allowed it to happen except they are corrupt as well. I've said it before and I'll say it again, there is no fixing the USA without figuring out a way to tackle the propaganda issues in this country first.
You need to start protesting outside media outlets and news stations under the Fox News and Sinclair ownership banners.

No, I'm genuinely upset about this. We don't need inflammation, we need change. But I have no idea how we as citizens can go up against companies like Sinclair if they simultaneously own, & are supported by, our politicians. I'm beginning to fear even just voting out the current politicians won't be enough because they'll just buy the new batch.

What is funny is you can actually use this script against Sinclair, Fox News, Breitbart, Conservative radio hosts, Right-wing mouthpieces, and it's MORE valid of a point against them. Its use is to deceive, but it's also written through the timeless Republican skill of Projecting.

My brother just messaged me about this yesterday. It's wild. I have a friend who's a camera operator for one of these stations and I'm loath to bring it up.

I have trouble see to what end all this is for.
