I grinded and walked a lot today. Ended up getting over 150k in stardust today to reach 3.5 million stardust. This little beedrill helped push me over the line.
And likely forever for Mew. I imagine that most likely the next Mythical Pokemon will require you to do Mew first before you can continue on anyways

Okay sweet. Also that would be a fantastic way to handle Mew. They'll be there forever, you just have to go in order.
The special missions are labeled as "story missions" internally, so that probably gives a good idea of what to expect with them going forwards. The safe assumption would be that they'd stay and keep adding up over time.
Yeah the special research is filled with goals very reminiscent of playing the game when it first started.
The special research is a little underwhelming since I've been playing since the start. That being said I'm really looking forward to future research with loftier goals.

Well, it starts at level 5, so it starts very easy, it ends with requirement of lv 25 and harder objectives. Magikarp evolution, 10 ghosts, ditto catch. Def increases overall with great rewards. I can see the Serbii upping it a little to lv 30. Maybe a quest one day to up it to lv 35?
Wait, 10 ghosts? Ugh, fuck that. Guess I'll have to blow daily passes on Gengar and Sableye whenever I see them...

Lol, some of you freak out at every little thing. Hit up a local nest, or just walk around, since this released ghosts are spawning much more common now. I've caught 5 since yesterday just wandering. Seen more on nearby. I was really curious why I ran into a Shuppet twice yesterday after really not seeing one for long time (I see Gastly, Duskull & Sableye regularly). Now I know why.

I walked that extra 0.4 KM and now on Step 5!
I love these Stardust rewards. Remember to use your starpiece if you have one. Doesn't seem like dbl stardust is applied, unless it is already and reward is usually half.
I am taking a leisurely route to this, but at same time am excited to complete each one.

Ghost won't be a problem as they do spawn more.
Magikarp evolution is the real road block unless you game the system for spawns.

Ditto is the one that's going to kill me. I currently have 530 karp candies because I've been waiting for a shiny.
Just wrapped mythical research 5 about half an hour ago. I actually found a Ditto before I finished the ghosts; I was just slowly driving through grocery store parking lots and got four ghosts that way, then was given a heads up on a local ghost haunt that took about half an hour to give me the last six I needed.
Magikarp is going to be a problem; we had a reliable Magikarp spawn area until Gen3's launch somehow ruined it. I was out for 10 hours and only saw four wild Magikarp the entire time. Heck, the Magikarp I am "walking" has dug up more candy than I got from catches all day!

Decided to do a few Lugia raids today seeing as I was out doing missions anyway.
Caught 2/3 and one was shiny :)
Also leveled up to 36, so powered up my 100% Machamp, Aggron and Sceptile another level, and used my new rare candies to power up my Mewtwo twice, so... back at 8000 stardust lol.
Oh, and finally hatched a Wynaut!

I had a Lugia spawn right next to where I live, on a Saturday afternoon when it wasn't raining. Not a single person was there. :(
If you want to actually do raids join a local facebook or discord group, you're very unlikely to just find a group going out of the blue.
The GO Plus needs an update so bad.

Same they arn't biome dependent, and spawn like crazy in residential and commercial areas.
So my GF and I kinda got back into Pokémon Go this WE and I have some questions:
- How the fuck does this game drain that much battery ? Do you have any this on "playing" without using too much ? Mostly asking for "walking around to hatch eggs" and stuff like this, without having to have the phone in the hand and using 1% battery life per minute.
- What are raids? I didn't find an answer that was actually helpful.
- Still no raids and player battles? Really or did miss something?
- Is there some way to change your "allegiance" ? She's team yellow, I'm blue, it's annoying.
- We have a large forest not far from where we live. Can we find pokémon there or are they only within a certain distance to a pokéstop or arena? (It's about 2km from the nearest pokéstop).
- Anything else I should know?

The only way to get around having the game screen open for anything you do to count is to have a Go Plus, which allows you to perform walking and other actions independently of the game for an hour at a time.
Periodically, during daylight hours, gyms will spawn a raid boss. They first appear as giant eggs for an hour, which then lead to a 45 minute period where the raid boss is available to fight. Up to 20 players can gather at the gym and fight the boss, which is more powerful than any player-held Pokemon can be. If players are successful in finishing the raid battle before time expires, they receive bonus items and stardust, and a chance to catch the raid boss. Raids are split into five levels - Pink eggs (level 1-2) are common Pokemon, yellow eggs (level 3-4) are slightly more uncommon Pokemon which may require larger groups to take down, and black eggs (level 5) are legendaries.
The current legendary raid boss is Lugia, but he is departing on Monday at 1 PM PDT.
There are currently two Pokemon aside from legendaries that are raid exclusive: Mawile (level 2) and Absol (level 4).
Raids are as described above. There is no PVP aside from attacking gym defenders left by other players.

Spawn points aren't necessarily near a stop or gym, but because of the way the nearby tracker works, if you have them nearby they end up taking priority over the sightings tracker. This doesn't mean Pokemon don't exist, just that there's no in-game means of knowing what's there until you literally stumble over them.
Not every area is a spawn point, but areas that do spawn Pokemon are generally pretty consistent.
Generally, it doesn't seem like Pokemon like to spawn in the middle of nowhere, probably because Niantic don't want kids drawn out into the woods. They also don't spawn around highways. Otherwise they appear in any park, residential area or near roads and walkways.
Me, I took a "short" walk. Ended up being out for hours, first I targetted a Wailmer raid just to get one of two for my quest and then a Lugia popped. I had to wait around (in lovely weather though) until people could turn up, but we took it down easily and I caught my third Lugia so I'm happy.
Also got the quest for three Bellsprout or Oddish. They should be really easy in other weather, and they give you a shot at a Tangela afterwards.

High density areas, basically areas with a lot of people that use cell phones, are where and how spawn points work. So like big cities, malls, shopping centers, parks, etc. Unless that big forest is also a park/walking trail where people go, unlikely to find many Pokemon there. Big neighborhoods are good too, though recommend you walk or something. You will soon get a general idea for areas to go best. But I do recommend parks the most.
Also, did the ghosts today, that was fairly easy. Even before going to a ghost nest nearby, I already had 4 ghosts, 3 of which in my neighborhood. Then caught 2 more unrelated to nest there. Ditto going to be challenging part.

I'm on the ghost one now with magicarp next and about 150 candies short - however for those complaining I have had multiple quests which end in a magicarp encounter so even if there are not many spawns that's a good way to get some ( and obviously walk with one for your one candy every 1k)
I'm like 300 candies short so uhhh I'm basically fucked in the short term at least.
