Never played RE4 but I am curious to try it after having a lot of fun with RE7. I'm definitely going to wait for this mod to release for my first playthrough. Can't wait.

This was absolutely one of the threads I knew we were all at risk of losing back at the old home. So glad it already has a presence here. Hopefully Cris wants to participate.

I haven't been following the updates other than seeing the comparison pictures in the old forum. I'm excited to see the finished mod. Keep up the good work guys.

Yes to this thread. I'm waiting to play RE4 for the first time once this mod is complete too. Great work to the people involved.

(Why is the HD revolver such a departure?)

Holy shit, I forgot how much I needed this thread! Probably the only thread I followed regularly for years on the old site. Hope to see Cris and Albert in here themselves before too long!

That's crazy.

I don't think there will be another modding project as impressive and as respectful as this. Capcom absolutely 100% needs to pay them for this work and make it part of an official version of the game which will now further stand the test of time.

The HD project team is amazing. They care more than Capcom. They found the original highres background for the options, while Capcom themselves used a random background for the HD versions. Smh.

Played RE4 twice in a row back then (on GC) and never looked back... I can't wait to play this, even though I need to build a PC first ! :D

Yea I've been monitoring the project for like 2 years now. Will be so stoked when I can actually try the whole thing because this whole HD Project looks incredible. It's so good donated $20 bucks to them because I think they deserve it. This project is insane in its obsessiveness.

I think everyone who hasn't played RE4 should just go ahead and play it ASAP. When this comes out they can have a first-hand frame of reference, better see the vast improvement and have more appreciation for the work out into this mod.

As someone who finally beat it my first time last month, I second this. Just a suggestion, of course. The cool part is, it's hard not to see Resi 4's visuals and appreciate how great they were for the time. The seams are obvious with a higher res, but it still manages to look nice overall. Though personally, I recommend playing with classic textures. The "HD" ones make everything feel smeared, in my opinion. Can't wait to revisit this title when this mod is finished!

Saw Cris said in the comments section that he already registered but waiting for approval:

I've mainly been going to ResetEra over the last few days and I've registered, but I'm waiting for the approval so I can begin posting updates. While in general I'll be active on ResetEra primarily, I think we'll still update the NeoGAF thread for folks getting updates there. On a side note, (from what I can see so far) the folks running ResetEra have done a great job in setting up an improved forum and handling the influx of new users — it's remarkable!

I like Black Mesa, but that is basically a remake of the old game. This HD project sticks incredibly close to the original intended game with amazing attention to detail.
Black Mesa doesn't really do this at all.

Also not to downplay Black Mesa at all, it is amazing, but for this project they actually tracked down the locations of some of the real life architecture just to make sure it stuck as closely to the original as possible. Thats bananas.

Why this awesome project taking so long? Is everything right? Did the maker mention any possible release window?

I wouldn't worry too much. There have been a ton of updates of the last year, and they've been consistently making good progress. This absolutely does not seem like one of those projects that just ends up stuck. Not sure on release window, I'll have to check their site.

Excellent, thanks for bringing it over.

I have to repeat this. If Capcom are a nice bunch and they love releasing new editions!

Resident Evil 4 - Albert and Cris Edition which becomes....

Resident Evil 4 - ACE for PS4/Xbox One/Switch, Release date 'TBC'

I know it's free for PC but would be great if they released it for consoles even as a new release. It's such amazing work.

Seriously how exactly the maker is doing this? Is he in touch with the devs? I know he went to Spain to photograph all the details from the areas but still this is the exact 1:1 game but improved to an orbital level. Even remakes of games tend to be different from orignal games and miss or change and alter some details. Here it is exactly the same. Some instances have blurry text on textures that no one could figure but he was able to discern them. This work is beyond just a pure fan. This is a work of a pro. You can't convince me of the opposite.

Hello!
Cris, You're here, too!
I'm here, too!

Sorry. I needed to say it... XDD

Thank you!
How did you find it?

It seems it's from a Budhist book written in form of a traditional Chinese poetry and that's why it's written in groups of 4 kanjis.
An approximate translation is:

"A marionette on the shelf is nothing more than a marionette. It looks alive but it is not. Once its thread gets cut off, it falls onto the ground."

So... I'd say is a random text... or you can try to speculate about a hidden meaning. Here's my try (I posted it in our website):

Leon is the marionette
The shelf is the inventory (or the entire game!)
It looks alive but it's just a bunch of "0" and "1"
If we throw the controller pad out of the window (the threads), he will remain unmoving
The enemies will kill him and he will fall onto the ground.

Of course I'm not serious :P Any other thoughts??

In case someone doesn't know what are we talking about:

This is the original Gamecube texture. You can see some Chinese characters in the center.

I live in Spain, so it was easier for me to track those real live textures. But I needed to travel to Wales, too because Capcom also took pictures from Cardiff and surrounding castles back in 2000.

Some of the textures we are using are in fact based on the original source pictures Capcom used. We've found them all over the Internet (texture libraries, old websites and I even used http://archive.org/web/ to get some already nonexistent pictures from certain websites) That's why some textures are 1:1 but higher resolution :)

But most times (80% more or less) are re-creations or textures based on the pictues I took. And even if we find the original source picture, some of them are not good enough for our HD standards, so we re-create the texture anyway.

I hope this summarized explanation is useful!

It could be a reference to the doll enemies from RE3.5.

On the subject of menu text; I remember seeing what appeared to be some Japanese characters on one of the Mercenaries menu backgrounds in the UHD port that I don't remember from the Gamecube release. Do you have any idea what it says?

You are right! I think they were already in the original but I'm not sure if they are exactly the same. I need to check it...

I didn't thought about those 3.5 dolls! it also makes sense hehe

As mentioned, I'm pretty sure the Japanese text is a layover from Resident Evil 3.5, considering that literally had doll enemies on shelves that came to life. In information since then those enemies were even literally called "Marionettes", so I think why it's there in the final was they decided just to carry it over even if it doesn't have much meaning in the final game. The Marionettes obviously in that version weren't alive, RE3.5 had some twist where the supernatural stuff we were seeing were actually going to have some explanations behind them, but it may have been a thematic version clue in to a very literal element in RE4's earlier build.
