Has it really been 6 years since 3D came out? I really hope they can reuse a lot of KH3's assets for future games, because going from a 1 to 2 year wait for a new game to this is tough.

They will. Having to recreate assets that have been reused over and over again (Characters like Sora, objects like the Kingdom Key and Gummi Ship, locations like Mysterious Tower) really set them back. Having to not struggle with that for the next game will speed things up a bit, plus they are more experienced with a proper lighting system now so that's a plus.

Ultimately one thing that will slow down future console KH's development is that SQEX's resources aren't infinite and the way they work as a whole. They'll move around people as projects require it (with projects furthest into development and/or with the biggest priority and/or with the closest planned release dates getting the most attention) and they only have so many people that they can move around without hampering the development of other projects too much (see: FFXIII & XIV putting development of Versus XIII and unannounced & announced projects' development on hold and even forcing some of them to be cancelled due to the XIV 1.0 disaster that lead to ARR hogging all their available resources). And they do want to have several projects in development at once behind the scenes.

At peak development they probably need to have a few hundred people working on a game of modern KH's scope (in-house) and they simply don't have that many people to keep working on just KHs. Hiring more people sounds like an easy answer, but then I don't think they want to be in a situation where they have to fire tons of people whenever a project is finished (only to have to hire people again later on). From their & game development POV, up to a point, it's better keep the size of their workforce at a sustainable level and just move people around as projects are finished and other projects need more manpower rather than hiring thousands of new people for every project imaginable. Of course outsourcing is possible, but I imagine that usually enters the picture a bit later into a project's development when the game's content has been planned out.

Currently KHIII is probably THE game at SQEX. It's getting all the available resources thrown at it that it needs to get it out by some deadline they have set themselves. KHIV will go back to the end of the line and if SQEX decides FFXVI, FFVII Remake Part 1 & 2 and Secret of Mana 3 get priority, then at least 2 or 3 of those will have to be finished before KHIV gets to the point where KHIII is currently at as far as resource allocation goes.

I'm kind of doubtful that they'll go straight from KH3 to KH4. Yes, KH3 is supposed to wrap everything up, but they've never gone from a numbered title to the next one right away. Especially when there's a bunch of characters getting rescued in KH3 that could definitely get their own games.

I expect KH3 to get post-launch contents/DLCs and Final Mix version, so I doubt we will see next KH game anytime soon. Also Nomura will probably focus more on FFVIIR after KH3 is out and that game is gonna take a while.
I could see smaller title coming out after KH3 that recycles a lot of KH3 assets, with smaller team.

I feel like KH3 DLC could be done well it just really depends on how it's handled.

New Worlds would be amazing, but I find it hard to believe that it can happen especially since the process of green lighting new worlds seems like a pain in the ass especially since they have to get permission from Disney.

what we saw happen with FF 15 with Royal edition is probably what we can expect from KH3 and it's final mix version.

It would be really great if they can get some of the later movies that couldn't make the base game due to the timing of the release, such as Moana. Since Kingdom Hearts never technically had DLCs (not counting the Final Mixes) we don't really know how they will approach with this.
They could do the route of making other character episodes like 0.2, but I do feel Riku's stuff will be in the base game already. And I would personally prefer something more with Sora and the expanding the base game, rather than entirely separate episode with different character.

tbh I would love FF 15 style DLC for KH3.

While Nomura has confirmed there is a second playable character (most likely being Riku) I want to play as the other characters. maybe Nomura will have playable sections for the BBS cast, but if not DLC for each one of them that somehow ties back into the events of KH3 would be great.

I'd like character episodes, mainly because I think that with as many characters that are involved, it's basically inevitable that a few of them don't get much focus.

Episode DLCs could be fun but my preference overall is stuff for the main game and Sora. Whether at launch or through DLC I want the post-game for KH3 to have some meat to it. Extra bosses, a new area, challenges. A reason to max your levels out. I really liked collected the crowns in KH2 and would like an equivalent.

Don't make a thread about it.

The key here is to not mention FFXV in any capacity. People rush to it like a shark that smells blood.

FF Type-0 and Star Ocean Last Hope is trash-tier games so I wouldn't really recommend playing them, or play them first to get rid of them if you plan to finish all those games.

Woah, Type-0 is rad, it's just a little bumpy to play all at once, the gameplay is super solid! I love all the different playable characters! I will say, though, that if you aren't into playing more average games, then skipping is natural, but I had good fun at least.

I'd say that the best way to clear a backlog is to go for the more palatable games first, to keep up interest, so I'd probably recommend either FF7 or FF9, then FF10, then I think you'll wanna pick whatever. In any case, I hope you have fun, there is a lot to enjoy in these games, even if some of them aren't as interesting, they could be for you, so give 'em a shot if you're open to trying them!

Any tips for the Hades Paradox Cup in KH2 on critical?

The 15000 points requirement is easy enough, just Peter Pan spam in the first 20 rounds. But after that it gets tricky, being locked out of summons and drives really limits you.
The round with 4 shaman has destroyed me twice, they go immune to physical attacks and hit super fast and hard, and if you've had to cure recently you can't destroy them with magic.
The Final Fantasy guys are also trouble, Tifa and Cloud attack so fast and it's hard to keep up, trying to abuse reflega seems to be the only somewhat viable strategy.

I think if I could use everything at my disposal it'd be fine, but 4 shortcuts for 50 rounds doesn't really cut it. I want magnega + thundaga for trash rounds, reflega for bosses, cure for clutch heals, and elixirs for when I don't want to use my MP on cure.
Fiddling through menus for summons and limits and items and spells is just a death wish.

Other than this I just have Data Org XIII and Lingering Will to go for the plat. I'm actually looking forward to those now as they're each just a single boss fight to learn and master, whereas this cup is an hour of BS.

the HELP Menu.
I like Type 0 conceptually more than in actuality.

Oh yeah, nothing wrong with that, it definitely has a really messy execution of it's concepts. If they could've preserved more of the multiplayer elements though, it wouldn't have mattered. I wanted them so bad! Is it even possible to play the PSP version in english with multiplayer?! Oh god, it's all coming back!! it's all coming, ah, You Unzipped Me! the only other kid I knew with a PSP was a douch, oh god, ah... all those multiplayer modes, completed alone, ohhhhh.... You unzipped me, oh god...

sorry for the diatribe, I'm a bit let down by Type-0 despite liking it.

Maybe garbage was a bit too far but I do feel it's the worst in that list along with the Last Hope and maybe FFXV.

It's kinda funny how KH3 was announced at the first E3 of PS4 and by the time it releases it could be just before the first E3 of PS5.

It will be interesting to see what their next step is going to be. Assuming KH3 does well they will of course stick with UE4 and home consoles but will whatever happens next be cross gen or next gen only? I'd like the next title to release around 2022 with announcement to earlier than 2020 or later. But it's not impossible for them to make another smaller scale game much faster to make it into that cross-gen rush of 2020-2021.

Like, is ''KH4'' going to be actual KH4 with all bells and whistles or something more akin to DDD where it sets up KH4. I feel like if they can knock it out of the park with KH3 like they did with XV then it makes sense to try and focus on big ''''mainline'''' titles but it would certainly be unlike Nomura to just jump from a numbered title to the next. Then again X/Chi might still be going for years and take the role of the mid game between 3 and 4.

It's really hard to see how they will approach after KH3 at this point. When Nomura starts doing interviews after KH3 launches we will be able to find out about how the series will move on from the Dark Seeker Saga. Obviously Union X will still be going and will sort of work as bridge to the next saga. Considering that they will most likely do post-launch contents and DLCs/Final Mix, I expect next game to take a while even if it's a smaller title with reused asset.
Also with Vita being dead and only portable system being Switch which can handle UE4, I could see next game being worked on for Switch/PS4/PS5 cross-gen, using a lot of KH3 assets and PS5 version doing higher quality textures/60fps etc.

Probably depends on how KHIII sells and is received. If it sells 7+ million copies in its first year or so, I could see them pushing for KHIV as soon as possible (spend 1-1,5 years milking KHIII with DLC while a small team starts IV's development, then move on to IV fulltime as quickly as possible). If it continues being a relatively meager success (by today's and AAA market standards) similar to KH1 and 2 on PS2 back in da dayz (sub 4-5 million copies), I could see it not being a huge priority but still good enough that it continues being a big franchise to them, perhaps with some attempted bigger changes to the formula to try to push it to the lucrative 10+ million seller club.

It's a completely inconsequential thing, but can someone check their PS4 trophies to see when the Lingering Will and Data Org XIII trophies popped? Like if they're on loading screen blackness like a lot of KH trophies.

Deciding which one to use to pop the platinum ;)

Edit: Just realised Org XIII guys unlock a chest so that'd be what gets the plat, though also LW will unlock the character entry, so either way it's going to be a screenshot of the journal lol.

Curious if they will show anything KH3 related in next week's Ux event. I am not expecting anything but maybe Nomura might bring small surprises (that will be exclusive to the event attendees :P)

Nomura is there and they relaunched their Japanese webportal promising more frequent news and promotion. It might not get Frozen world reveal but I'm fairly certain KHIII will be discussed and shown to some extent. Could just be an extended look at previously shown stuff or something more meaty and new but not megaton level.

I doubt KH3 will get anything big until E3. Gameplay of stuff that's already been shown off is the most I'd expect.

I can see them showing some special bonus for the x-Trace stuff. Maybe something cosmetic you get in KH3 for playing KHUx. That or some small clips of gameplay/character renders. If they show anything at the Dandelion Meeting I expect it'll be small but still exciting for us fans.

And that's that grinding finished. Almost tempted to grind more stat ups to make Hades Paradox laughably easy (it doesn't have a stat cap at 80 like the end game bosses), but nah, I think I can cheese it enough with drive, summon and limit spamming.

If they do have 2nd menu I could see limit stuff being on second page unless limit is party of Link now.. Other than that I don't know..
I am still not sure if we will have 2nd menu page... we have only seen in dev shots so far...

With the plethora of attack options they're giving Sora in this game, I don't see how they can proceed without a 2nd menu.

Also thanks for the reminder that KHIII worlds will be populated w/ NPCs for a change. With this series it's easy to forget that can be a thing.
