The big problem with Jho, both Tempered and normal, is that the hitbox for his chest weakspot is too exact. His dopey little arms protect it in a really janky way, making it useless to aim for whenever he isn't standing still and allowing you to get into perfect position.

Lance/GL are the only weapons that can deal with this reasonably well, everyone else is stuck trying to hit his head (good luck), legs (useless when in "muscle mode," which is most of the time) or aiming for the chest and praying it'll register favorably.
Would it be smart to just say fuck it to weakpoints and use weapons that ignore them, like charge shell GL and CB?

I run

Garon Dhara II w/ affinity and health augment

Attack charm III
Guild Cross circlet beta
Brigade Mail beta
Kaiser Vambraces Alpha
Kaiser Coil Alpha
Kaiser Greaves Beta

For jewels I run
3 attack, 1 would be fine though
Elementless jewel
2 Vitality jewel

Set gives me masters touch, divine blessing 3, and weakness exploit 3. Most importantly 95% crit on weakspots.

Thanks! I'll check it out, already got most armor sets, just need the weapon.

Decided to give the bow yet another try. Dropped the elementless approach in favor of an elemental crit build. This one's for Thunder, still working on the other elements:

monsterhunter_world_2jxr3v.jpg

It's not optimal yet, but I'm pretty happy with it so far.

I wish I got a Piercing Shots jewel, so I could drop the A. Rathalos coil and its worthless windproof/no slots. At least it does contribute to Rathalos Mastery. With 70% Affinity on weak spots, I should be able to dish out some good damage.

Are there any new weapons for the Spring festival or is the armor the only new thing that's offered?

Any decorations needed for that? I made the bow already but haven't gotten around to looking into a set for it yet.

This set uses:

Bolt Jewel 1 x2
Attack Jewel 1 x2
Spread Jewel 3 x1
Tenderizer Jewel 2 x1

Ok, I'll make that when I get the second attack gem in 300 hours hehe. I need to see if I have a spread gem, but I think I have the rest, so I'll check that out. Thanks!

One of the best GS in the game atm and it looks sick. You have until the end of the event to reconsider.

And even if you are unsure, the quest for the tickets is incredibly easy and only needs to be run 4-5 times. Good for cash if you bring a bandit mantle.

Yea the rathalos mastery is strong. Here's my end game Thunder setup atm:

It's what I use for any end game monster that's weak to Thunder obv... So tempered Jho, Nergigante, etc.

Very heavy on the decorations though since you need mighty bow + others. But yea I prefer elemental bows over raw damage anyday

I have like 6 streamstones for that weapon and I still have yet to craft one so that'll probably be a pass for me lol.
It's super easy to make and as said is disappearing soon, at least run the event a couple of times to get the materials you need then you can craft it if you change your mind. It's worth learning just so that you can watch it in action.

I got FOUR tickets from my second run of that quest!

You could always just farm the limited-time mats just in case you change your mind. It's a very easy quest.

Does anybody else use the Insect Glaive? It's apparently the 11th most popular weapon according to one of the NPCs. I'm using the Nergal Reaper and finding good success with it. I will upgrade it to the Catastrophe's Light once I get to Xeno'jiiva.

Mighty Bow is the deco for the Bow Charge Plus skill? Heh, I didn't even know that skill had a jewel. Guess that's one of my next goals.

I like the set I'm currently using because it depends on decos for increased damage for the element of choice. Makes it easier to swap elements. (If only the game would grace me with Ice Attack jewels...)

I tried using an elementless bow before (Cera Coilbender even) but its damage was, well, kind of shitty? Maybe I was playing it wrong, but this elemental setup made a much better impression so far.

Which quest is it?

I have yet to make a GS (I know, I know... I just was always rubbish with them in Tri and didn't play with them much, they intimidate me), so maybe that'd be a good one to make...

That's gotta be a Gold Crown Kirin, right? It's huge!
Looking at my footage is must have been, but it's crazy I didn't even realise crown collecting was a thing until recently, I'm so used to selecting a quest, fighting a monster to capture footage with a new weapon or capture a certain moment, then abandoning it when I've got what I needed. Now I'm thinking I should have finished this fight as I did the same, went into the quest to get some nice gesture captures with the lightning going off, got what I needed and then abandoned the quest XD.

Just hunted regular Rathalos with Jho's bow. Captured it in just under 6 minutes, so that's decent. I even managed to cut his tail.

I need to work on my evade game, though.

Or farming the big xp quests (like the legiana/pink ian event) for days .... which is quite insane actually ...
But fucking max rank...

The raw damage bow set up relies heavily on spamming Dragon piercer. Having decorations that increase dragon piercer damage means you'll be eating through monsters where you can land it consistently. A minimum of 65 damage per hit going through the body is deadly.

Oh yes, I remember it clearly cuz I was shocked. Someone told me maybe they cheated. I dunno how.
I saw this too, just assumed it was either a developer or some press/insider that got the game early.

For a normal person (and I say this as a moron who spent over a hundred hours collecting pointless trophies), going to HR 999 would be a monumental waste of your life.

FYI, Dragonpiercer has a .3 element modifier per hit meaning it scales very poorly with elemental damage. If you go for an elemental build, you should focus on charge stepping and forgo dragonpiercer altogether. Dragonpiercer is okay damage against most things, but bow consistently has the fastest times in the game when matching elemental weakness and spamming high level power shots.

With some games, a group of people share an account and take shifts playing on it. I've seen it with black ops 3 to unlock everything in like a few weeks
Yeah but the quests didn't even give that much xp towards hr to shoot to 999. That's impossible.

Probably a playtester or something then. It cannot be a legitimate day one player.

Yeah focusing on Dragon piercer with an elemental bow is a waste of time and dps.

I didn't know that. Thanks!

Though I have to ask: why forgo Dragon Piercer altogether? Right now I'm using it only when the monster is down and when I'm lined up with the length of its body. So the monster goes down, I use Charge Step (also for positioning) > Charge 2 shot > Charge 3 shot > Power Shot > Arc Shot (when near the head) > Dragon Piercer. At the moment DP activates, the monster is usually about to get up or has just gotten up.

What's the advantage of not using DP there? Would my dps be higher if I used the time to active DP for Charged Shots/Power Shots instead?

Given the damage DP does when it tears through the monster's entire body I'm a little skeptical.

The RNG in this game is next level evil to make up for the QoL improvements. Took a weekend to casually grind some crowns and honestly only got 4 I needed.

10 mil copies sold? LOL, holy fuck, people.

I'm with ya. I need 14 total crowns to finish. Tried all weekend using primarily the event quests. I can't for the life of me get a large Tzitzi. I think all told I got 4-5 crowns all weekend.

Giant crowns have to be the worst thing in the game. I've fought multiple Diablos that were so big that their roars were pitched lower but I still haven't gotten the large gold crown.

Yeah that's the worst. When you are absolutely sure you've found a tiny/large crown variant and kill it and ... nope! Did the same thing many times now with both Lavasioth and Uragaan.

Oh god I remember how annoying was Tzitzi, the bastard never showed up for any of it's 2 crowns, I'm on the same boat, saying I got 5 crowns on weekend would be too many, hope you don't get stuck on Giant Dodogama, that one is being even worse.

I've yet to see any Dodo that looks any different at all so far ... so that's fun.
