I think he meant just not caring about deviations. Obviously everybody in the thread is excited to some capacity.
Okay but that's your word for it. My word is improvements. What we can agree is that there are changes, and calling the changes deviations or improvements is just spinning a narrative. You don't get to say you care more because your nomenclature is more sinister.

I'm not spinning a narrative it just seems like the visuals are just very polarizing people love it and some people don't.

well I didn't say that so chill out!

IT'S TIME, FRIENDS

It's time to retire this avatar. Both my boys came back, so it's no longer relevant. Say goodbye to sad Spyro and Crash in their yard sale.

I'll wait for the next Direct to see if a Switch version is available. If not i'll get the PS4 version.

There's been no news of a limited edition or anything? I wanted more Spyro goodies.

I wouldn't count on it, the only Limited Edition of N'Sane Trilogy came with socks.

Bummer! I still have my Spyro CD case that came with Gateway to Glimmer. Was hoping we'd get something neat this time too. I don't think i'd want socks though LOL
I got that CD case with the first Spyro! Is yours also the black one with the playstation logo on it?

If i get the PS4 version at launch and a Switch version is released later, i'll probably double dip too (on sale)! I am weak for Spyro.

damn! peacekeepers is looking great!

Can't wait to see some of the gateway to glimmer and year of the dragon content

I wouldn't get your hopes up :(

I already have a digital pre-order, but I would have loved a special version in the style of the N.Sane trilogy that Sony gave to naughty dog staff

Overall, I've been pretty satisfied with this remake's art direction/creative liberties in what they've shown of the recreated original game so far.

I think Spyro himself looks pretty good, and I'm okay with Sparx too.

But what I'm not as big on is the looks of the Gnorcs that they've shown and some of the enemies in general, like the quick glimpse of the Egg Thief. I think the look of the Shepherds and the Sheep Dogs in the bits from Toasty's stage they showed looked great and on point, but the other enemies so far haven't really been as successful in my eyes. From the glimpses we've gotten, I've definitely preferred the look of the Gnorcs in the original over their reimagined takes in this so far.

Sorry if this post is a bit big, but I did a couple more recolors and added color swatches to help better demonstrate why I'm doing this and why I feel strongly about the new colors. The original games were pretty important to me in terms of learning about color theory and how influential a palette can be. I feel like the biggest detracting statement from people who like the new colors is that "that's how real lighting works" and while I see your point, Spyro takes place in a fantasy world with talking dragons. It wasn't realistic then because they didn't want it to be realistic. It's not like they accidentally chose the colors they did in the original or just used photo references of what they saw outside and popped that in-engine. If you read the Gamasutra article about their approach to color theory with the trilogy, you can see they had a very clear process in choosing the palettes and it wasn't anything to do with trying to make the world look realistic or believable.
https://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/131581/lessons_in_color_theory_for_spyro_.php
I did my best to employ some of the techniques they describe when re-coloring, not just swapping new colors with the old ones, which is most apparent in the third photo. I'm absolutely open to change, I love what they did with the geometry in the world. I'm a big fan of the splashes of blue on the spires in the third photo, so I tried to place more emphasis on them and dull down the overwhelming oranges and reds.

Obviously they're not perfect because they're just photoshops I did in an afternoon, but I think with the color swatches you can see a bit more of why I feel some changes could benefit this. Also I'm not trying to start any arguments about "the original is the best, the remake's shit, I'm right, etc", this is more to open a dialog and to show the developers something they may have not realized was important to the core of the game that others have appreciated in the past. I also sent out a tweet with these because Toys For Bob seems relatively active on Twitter, in the hopes of at least getting them to acknowledge it's important to some of us.

I admire your dedication, but while I do prefer the more colourful look in general I also think it clashes a bit with the lighting in some of the pictures. Makes me want all stages to feature daylight and twilight variations.

Changing something like that would annoy me a lot more than the skybox tweaks that have been debated to death in this thread
Same! I think the colors look beautiful and I don't mind those skybox changes/tweaks.

I legitimately had to return the game when my parents found out about the butt reveal. Such a sad day in my childhood :(
That sounds really sad! D:
I'm glad my parents didn't mind it.

Not a huge fan of the like, across-the-board orange filter over literally everything in the game. But the art direction is great, so it probably won't matter in motion.

Yeah. I never had any issues with my parents regarding things like this. The very first game I played, and played rather religiously, was Mortal Kombat II back when I was 7 years old :D

Mum and dad got me a PS2 as a surprise for Christmas when I was in primary school, I was a very pleased 11 year old when I woke up to find a PS2 and Grand Theft Auto 3! They asked me best friend what we usually played and just got that, I suppose they didn't think about it much.

Still, mum might not have been overly thrilled to see this when we were even younger :p

I remember thinking it was hilarious though, its one of the most memorable things about the first game (my least favourite) in my mind. We used to rent a PS1 and Spyro 1, Crash 1 and Small Soldiers (usually the same 3 games) all the time, eventually my dad gave up and got us a PS1 and Crash + Spyro of our own!

The Spyro model is just so cute. I love it!

Also, i used to play GTA and Die Hard Trilogy with my dad when i was like 11, so my parents have never bothered with that sort of parenting LOL

Spyro's model looks fresh and faithful at the same time, I dig it.

You weren't kidding, need to hear the rest as I have a soft spot for this BGM but it sounds very promising, I hope they do the original OST justice.
As long as they keep the style I'll be happy

I was put off a bit by the trailer's music but I'm totally fine with this

So, next to Mario 64 how good is this game really? Without the nostalgia goggles.
If you really value the kinetic feeling of moving around in 3D, Spyro never really hits the highs of Mario.

If you really hate collect-a-thon elements in 3D platformers, Spyro might not be a super good fit for you.

But I think Spyro is generally smarter about the way it has you interact with its obstacles and master its level design to progress through the game and gather the collectibles.

Oh, neat! Looks like a similar make to mine. Unfortunately i got rid of the demo myself. I remember it controlling strangely? But maybe that was just because it was before analogue sticks.

I have this too! :O
Unfortunately, when I was in junior high school a classmate of mine put a chewed chewing gum on it as a joke, and it still has some traces of gum on it. :(
