I played it for the first time a couple of years ago and while I appreciated how great it must have been for its time, I don't think it holds up. I'm still willing to give it a second shot. But yeah, Yakuza is ages better than Shenmue.

Nah it's fine. Would be nice with updated textures but that could easily mess up the look if not done with care. Everyone should go in expecting an 18 year old game. It still has atmosphere in spades. The music is incredible. The gameplay pretty unique. It's still a great game unless you go in expecting The Last Of Us or something.
As one of those younger generation, I'm quite enjoying Shenmue on my Dreamcast right now and will defiantly pick this up.

It holds up fine. The sense of adventure, of unraveling a mystery, of tinkering with stupid nothingness and getting lost for hours looking through drawers in some flower shop, of listening to amazing music and exploring a realistic world, and of kicking people in the face hasn't aged. Yeah the Forklift crap sucks. But damn I love everything else and Shenmue II is fantastic from start to finish.

How about the VMU "you aint go no battery" noise every time you turn on the game!!!
Exactly. And I think having the Japanese voices option will go a long way toward eliminating the bad voice acting problem the games had.
Holy shit this is the first time I'm so excited for a re-release.
This game will finally make it into the hands of people who never played it and it's brilliance will have a chance to be recognized by a new gen.
Shenmue and it's sequel, the asskicking milestone duology that was way ahead of its time, that tried to simulate cinematic realism with a mature narrative in a fully realized open world before anyone else did, that tried to blend so many genres the way we see in AAA games today, that unfairly became the dumb meme of gamers who've never even played them... Is finally getting exposure again.
Play them and acknowledge it's brilliance, you fools!

Shenmue I was a masterpiece never surpassed by cheap imitations currently released. I am so glad I don't have to buy another Dreamcast Im in tears
