One Shenmue II cutscene was featured (at the Shenmue tree), it was widescreen.

Personally I think there's a toggle option for 4:3 and 16:9, because both games work in 16:9 with fan mods on emulators and I believe real hardware.

You're right, missed the tree cutscene from S2, but that makes me think that they'll keep S1's cutscenes 4:3. It shouldn't be too hard to make them 16:9, but this port doesn't scream high quality.

This is how good the game is.
It's hard to fucking tell.

Honestly, for a game from nearly 20 years ago it holds up visually.

I think for a game that came out in 1999 it's quite impressive.

I was told when I play these, expect something similar to Deadly Premonition in terms of weirdness and just to appreciate the ride.

How far off is that?
Deadly Premonition reminded me of a Dreamcast game with its graphics and whatnot, but I wouldn't say that Shenmue is similar to it in any other way. It's definitely not a weird game like Deadly Premonition.

Yeah, that's a pass for me. I liked them back then, but I have no desire to relive the clunk.

But it's good that it exists for those who want them obvs.

I've owned a dreamcast back in the day but never played Shenmue. I'll give it a try

Don't judge it just yet. The trailer made it clear it was WIP footage. If it's an actual port and not emulated, then it's quite a feat already they've got it running on modern hardware.

Are they going to keep the licence brands?
Doesn't look like it. TIMEX watch appears to be gone.

I'm sure that time has not been kind to either game - they were both rough around the edges, even at the time - but they're still incredibly ambitious affairs, and well worth playing.

I'm surprised. Glad it's happening. I hope it's a good port and I'm curious what the new controls will bring. It definitely feels a little janky (1 for sure) so this new one could help.

Also wondering if the liscened stuff stays in or is overwritte/removed.

And of course, I hope this is well received. Man, I would not be opposed to Shenmue and Yakuza eventually converging with an older Ryo down the road.

I think there's little more info here, but not sure.

Dude's the biggest Shenmue fanboy I know. Happy for him (and every fan :D).

I wonder if 2 will be based on the Xbox version?? It was exclusively dubbed just for the Xbox. It also had many enhancements over the DC version.

I still have my copy!

It better have options! I don't want that dirty eng dub or overdone bloom.

I still have my Shenmue games, just pulled them out the other day to test a VGA connector I recently got (actually had the timex watch too but threw it away when I was young and stupid, they sell for crazy money nowdays).

I'll just leave this here. Huber hopped onto twitch after the Sega announcement stream. So his emotions were running hot!

Fantastic news! This and the Sakura Taisen news made my day! I hope the language options will also be on the Japanese copy of the game. I have no problem getting a US copy but it would be nice to see the option on a versions.

This is a problem that was common in many DC units. I had this happen to mine as well. You just needed to take the system apart and clean the metal rods that the power supply slides onto. My system got to the point where it was really bad (couldn't even boot into a game anymore without a random reset) and all it took was cleaning them once with rubbing alcohol to solve the problem. Hasn't happened again in over 14 years since then.

I need to do that to mine at some point...

As someone who never had the opportunity to play the Shenmue games, but do enjoy the Yakuza games, I often see the latter described as spiritual successors. But, of course, by now Yakuza has blown way past Shenmue in terms of graphics and fluidity in gameplay. I plan to pick these up because, if nothing else, the settings seem interesting. I'm definitely curious about the double time travel of playing a remaster of an early 2000s game that's set in the late 80s. But, coming from Yakuza, what should I expect? What, if anything, is better about Shenmue at this point?
