does anyone know if shenmue 3 will have dual audio?

Edit - misread the question.

AlI could find was this.

"The second issue receiving a lot of attention concerns the voice audio options. Many people have asked for there to be an option to switch between Japanese and English voicing. We understand how strongly people feel about this feature, and it is something we would like to include as well, but the inclusion of a dual audio option will ultimately come down to budgetary limitations. Whether it will be added or not, will need to be decided as development progresses."

It's a flawed, clunky (especially Shenmue 1) but also charming and unique experience, that is very definitely an acquired taste. It wasn't for everyone even when it come out, it surely won't be today, but now that is coming on almost every modern platform available and not still relegated on a failing niche console anymore it will surely be appreciated by at least a decently sizeable, selected minority.

If I didn't like Shenmue is it worth trying 2?

Wahoo! That box art looks great too. Can't wait to replay these. Maybe we will even see Shenmue 3 at E3.

Thanks, folks! These are good recommendations. I frequently enjoy games for their atmosphere, and one of the things I enjoy most about Yakuza is just walking around Kamurocho. It's part of why I rate 3 and 4 higher than it seems like most folks do– Okinawa is a good change of pace in 3, and again (somewhat) when revisited in 4. Slow paced, setting-driven investigations sounds real good.

Yeah, if the first act of Yakuza 3 was a highlight for you, you're likely to enjoy Shenmue.

I remember playing the second game and was annoyed by the QTEs. That's the only memory I had of it. And the clunky "side job" quests too aka move boxes.

Dumb question.

But i hope that Sega have set it up so the saves carry on to 3 and beyond.

Not really a question. But there you go. :P

Hope that they have the original material to upgrade the voice quality, the DC version has some of the lowest bit rate voice sample i have ever listened to.

guys real talk, as someone who never played shenmue and has no nostalgia for it, will i be able to enjoy these games?
Shenmue I may not have aged as well as Shenmue II (the superior game imo), I would definitely suggest you play Shenmue 2 even if you have not touch the series before.

If I didn't like Shenmue is it worth trying 2?
Yes, definitely. Shenmue 1 is pretty rough around the edges. Shenmue 2 a polished gem compared to Shenmue I.

Yes, you absolutely should give it at least a try.

It's by far the "better" game, with a lot of QoL improvements, a way faster pacing, much bigger and varied locations, a lot more of action, new characters and a more exciting and epic story.

I'm never going to get why people aren't down with that first act. It's fantastic. The feeling of having to walk into town from the beach, getting involved in small town business... it's really good, a transporting experience. It makes the Kamurocho parts better because you get more of a sense of the furious pace of the neighborhood once you're outside of it for a minute.

Here's hoping the same is kind of true between Shenmue I and II. The differences between small town Japan and Hong Kong ought to be massive.

Yes. II lives up to the ideals of what the game is meant to be, which is understandable considering Shenmue was originally both games as one; until SEGA panicked about needing a killer app and told Yu to split the game. Shenmue is really only the prologue chapter and would have "opened up" if the game proceeded as planned with the rest taking place in Hong Kong.

II builds on literally every aspect of the original and comes out undeniably the superior game; though you'll find people who prefer the intimacy of the first.

I love that Yakuza 3 first act so much, i can't stand people shitting on it for it's lack of action. You're definitely going to be a Shenmue 1 bro!

Shenmue 2 is more like a classic good game for normal people, lol.

DOesnt seem like any work was done on Shenmue outside of the resolution going widescreen and HD resolution. That may or may not be a good thing considering how rabid the fans are. May get pissed off for 'touching' it.

Sometime between April 14th, 2018 - Dec 31st, 2018.

That's a pretty good release window from what we had previously thinking it was buried.

I'm guessing summer.

So it's just a upped resolution, dual audio and the ability to play on this gen console right? It's not a full blown remastered like Crash?

New controls with the ability to play it with classic controls. More new stuff according to one of the guys they retweeted. UI Changes etc.

I'm intrigued. Never played these games before.

Didn't own a Dreamcast and the second game fly under the radar when I was a teenager with an Xbox.

Trailer clearly states WIP footage. Let's see how it goes.

I'm convinced they're not done with the visuals yet, seeing how II looks like an amalgam of the Dreamcast and Xbox versions of II.

Crash was basically a remake.

wait is shenmue 3 going to be on xbox? I could have swore it wasnt. Or was it a goal on kickstarter?
Sony has the marketing deal. III is being made independently of SEGA, so whatever SEGA does with HD is their business.

Ok people, look if you weren't playing this in 2000 you will probably never understand what this game was like. It had the most mind blowing graphics ever, never seen a world so detailed, hell I think most games still don't reach the level of detail these games have. It was like being in a real living world in a time where experiences like that were still new. Plus it's a badass martial artist simulator who lives his life, goes to work but when he has to kick ass he is all those awesome movie action stars rolled into one.

It's weird as hell. It's slow, it can be boring. Some of the best stuff is just going to an arcade and playing other sega games. And who cares I love it, they don't make weird shit like this anymore.
