God that's just a fucking stunning box art. Makes me a bit sad I'm going digital on PC. Might have to pick up a PS4 copy just to have it... y'know, around.

The box art is ok, I guess. I get what they're doing with the two different covers, but it kind of bugs me Ryo and Shenhua are on the cover twice.

Shenmue Saved indeed, I, II and III all on the way.
Great news which feels both inevitable and yet unbelievable.

Haha same!
Would've preferred a collage representing both games with only one Ryo. One that could've been replicated or tied-into with the forthcoming III artwork perhaps.

It is an enormous boon for Shenmue III to have this release finally happen.

The two games have never been released on the same platform in the US. The whole Shenmue experience was impossible for the average gamer to enjoy. Now it's on the most widely adopted console, and on Xbox and PC. Best of all worlds, and a perfect opportunity for newcomers to immerse themselves in this classic series.

It'll be much easier to make the case for a heavily story based game like Shenmue III now that the average gamer will have total access to the rest of the series.

Not every franchise starts out as a blockbuster success. Star Trek was cancelled for low ratings. It took years of insane fans starting conventions and showing their passion for the show to get it brought back as a movie series. It's been a cultural standard ever since.

Shenmue finally has a chance to reach anyone who has been curious. Yes, it is an older game. But it still so unique, I do not buy the line that "newcomers will hate it." I think it still provides something utterly unique in gaming history.

It is up to us in the Shenmue community to help people have a sense of what the game has to offer and to help newcomers have a great experience. Even just helping people here on ResetERA can set the kind of positive vibes that helped set off the chain reaction of social media positivity that recent games like Yakuza 0 have really benefited from.

We're getting everything we asked for, let's make the most of it.

This is pretty awesome. I didn't think it would ever occur. I'll buy on a few platforms for sure, especially at that price. Looking forward to QOL improvements and hope some of them are previews of what's to come.

I'm just relieved we can finally put this behind us. No more wondering before each event "is this when the finally announce it?"

Dunno about you lot, but I really, reaaaaally want to play some Shenmue now.

I might crack and continue my DEMUL playthrough... and start them all over again when the collection comes out.

I'm split. I really am. I just look at those screens from the collection and know I want to be playing it right now.

Same when I look over screens for III.

I have a question: I backed Shenmue 3 with the slacker backer site, using Paypal of course.
The fact is, I never received a mail from the site, an update, something. I know I can still track the transaction via Paypal, but is this normal?

From what I know, no emails go out from the main Shenmue.link site when an update happens, and obviously you'd have to be a KS backer to get an email from Kickstarter when an update happens there.

So yeah, I suppose that's normal.

So... we're still getting that ugly logo :/
Maybe, maybe not.

The black placeholder cover has been around for a while. It's only been updated with the provisional PEGI rating and I think YsNet's logo.

If there was to be another logo change that wouldn't be revealed on a placeholder cover, I don't think.

In light of the remaster, I think changing the logo now is an especially bad idea. Gamers are just getting the brand back in their heads and a new logo might throw them for a loop.

You guys all know what to do if you want to be heard about the logo. Let them know (as politely as possible, obviously) via the Kickstarter.

I sent them a polite message suggesting to switch back to some variant of the classic logo for the West, while at the same time complimenting the Japanese version Yu drew, which I genuinely believe is very well done.

Amazon Prime discount is now available for those who pre-order Shenmue I & II in North America. (U.S & Canada)

Yeah, Sega must be feeling pretty good about finally deciding to re-release these games. There's no way they aren't making money at this point.

The vindication is sweet. Just have to make sure it follows through and sells well beyond the preorders.

And then do the same for III.

I guess, but KS backer numbers never really reflect where the sales might go once actually released.

I made an advert for Bob's Pizza to go along with my previous Tomato Mart and YOU Arcade ones. Thought I'd share here:

I finally won a set of those Yokosuka Sacred Spot guides on eBay. Got a good price too - lower than the bids I was consistently being outbid on since they came out.

I forgot how well made this scene was. Honestly really holds up.

Thinking about it now, I never really realized how sad Nozomi's arc was in Shenmue. She loved this guy her entire life, he suddenly changes overnight and becomes extremely distant, then they both move away from one another, possibly to never meet again.

God, Shenmue is really special.

Nozomi's a sweetheart.

She has a lot of the best dialogue in the game, and probably the best voice acting in the English version.

Whoa. Wasn't this one of the images found on the GD-ROM when you put it in a PC...?
Man it was my wallpaper for years; desktop, laptop, PSP wherever I could set a wallpaper haha

Calling Nozomi in 3 is going to be so bittersweet

Here are the first 54 VMU profile animations that was attainable if you connected online with the Shenmue Passport. In total we have access to 207 out of the 393 VMU profiles. I hope they can somehow bring this back and the rest of the Passport features in the HD remasters.

No emulation exists that can perfectly animate these VMU profiles, it's viewable but the timing is way off. What I did was capture each frame of animation and then used a real VMU to re-create them as animated GIFs. I used a old program called Jasc Animation Shop 3 to optimize and make it identical to how it animates on a VMU.

Just got a KS email that the game has been pushed back to 2019:

"Hello Everyone,

Along with our publishers, Deep Silver, we have an announcement for the release date of Shenmue III. Our report follows with a comment from Mr. Suzuki.

Announcement by Deep Silver:

" Deep Silver today announce that their upcoming release Shenmue III has been moved and will now release in 2019.

The extra time will be used to polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible timeframe. "

Not surprising. This game has a better chance of being successful next year than during a super crowded holiday season this year.

I did not expect in a million years this game was coming out this year, so it's fine for me. Plus I'll need time to complete Shenmue 1+2 anyway!

Hopefully people don't get mad about this for some reason.
