I meant on NISA's end. I was aware of the fan translation for AT2 and think it's great they took the initiative to do what NISA failed. Which is more than likely going to be what happens with Ys VIII.

it should have the edited script but i haven't seen the edited script at all because i still need to get the game anywaySo I'm confused on the state of the translation. When the PS4 version came out it was full of translation errors, but it sounds like it has mostly been fixed with updates. If that is the case, then why does the PC version appear to have a super busted translation when it's just a PS4 port?

Oh so the "improved translation" is still busted then, got it. God, what a mess. I suppose I look forward to playing the game in a year after the community does NISA's work for them. From what I understand, and please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the PC version has the "improved" translation that the PS4 version got. It's better, still not great. The PC version is a buggy mess, however. Currently, the best version is the patched PS4 version.
This brings back a lot of bad memories. They also added game crashing bugs to one of the major stats menus to one of the Atelier Dusk games (might have been Ayesha but not certain). They DID patch that, at fucking least.????
(List taken from GBA Temp)
AR TONELICO ELEMIA, MANA KHEMIA 1 and 2
o Bad string handling leading to complete crash against specific bosses (AT1, MK2) / major part of the extra dungeon enemies (MK1). MK2's crash is rather easy to avoid, though.
o MK1: Unnecessary and flagrant name changes to a variety of playable main characters.
o MK2: Lack of testing in the extra chapter leads to crashes when doing certain tasks if Ulrika is the main character instead of Raze: Student handbook and Job post usage crash the game.
AR TONELICO METAFALICA
o Typographical errors, missing words, and shaky sentences, mistranslation of important game terms, inconsistently-adapted names
o Localization introduced or exposed game-crashing bugs in the game.
o NISA marketed the game based on Sex Appeal, when, in fact, AT2 was intended to be a more serious and thoughtful game, with less emphasis on cheap hooks and a greater focus on the plot, than Ar Tonelico Elemia
o In order to fit English voice acting onto the disc, they cut approximately half of the Japanese voice-acted scenes, leaving many important plot points lacking appropriate impact.
AR TONELICO QOGA
o Typographical errors and untranslated text in various spots on top of their "translation" not even being remotely close to the japanese track and english voice track, what little there is, not even matching the text in some areas.
o Binary Field (DLC episodes) scam where they put out each chapter separate then a few days after a bundle pack which didn't work if you had downloaded the first episode.
HYPERDIMENSION NEPTUNIA
o Neptunia 1 would crash on the dungeon leaderboard screen if it couldn't upload your score while you were on PSN for whatever reason.
HYPERDMENSION NEPTUNIA mk2
o Very questionable localization quality. (bad translation, unfunny jokes/lines added to several dialogues which changed the characters personalities at times)
HYPERSIMENSION NEPTUNIA V
o Very questionable localization quality. (bad translation, unfunny jokes/lines added to several dialogues which changed the characters personalities at times)
o Didn't tell the gamers idol events DLC would not be included, then, when brought to attention, denied any and all knowledge of such DLC.
o Freezing issues with some DLC.
WITCH AND 100 KNIGHT
o Game-crashing bugs (rumor about a GameFAQs user fixing everything and mailed such solution/file to NISA. Still no official support a year from release, nor token mention of any such thing.)
o PS3 overheating (Confirmed to be replicable by person who originally made the post) http://nisamerica.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=14425&start=90
ATELIER ARLAND TRILOGY
o Name changing: Esty Erhart => Esty Dee (S T D = Sexual Transmission Disease, get it? XD)
RHAPSODY DS
o http://www.siliconera.com/2008/10/13/bonus-content-cut-from-rhapsody-ds/
o http://www.siliconera.com/2008/10/14/falling-flat-encountering-rhapsodys-ds-glitches/
DISGAEA 2 PSP
o They fucked up the dlc characters so they don't have voices.
o They decided not to release all the dlc characters, but released the final character, majin hinako.
o Majin hinako unlocks item book collection slots because it assumes you have the other dlc characters.
o Downloading majin hinkao means you can't complete the collection book, effectively killing anyone going for 100%
DISGAEA D2
o Game-crashing SKILLS (several Fire-based)
o OPENING stops abruptly
o Fuuka and Desco were free DLC for the first month after release in Japan and Asia. Day 1 paid DLC in USA and EU.
o CPU melting bug at release
DISGAEA 3
o DLC scam. Purchasing content one by one locks certain content needed for 100% completion. Purchasing as a bundle unlocks it all, for the low price of $50. NISA released vouchers for a limited time as apology.
MUGEN SOULS
o Created new bugs and glitches not seen in the JP release
o Massive lag during regular battles
o Can fail an area load after a battle forcing you to restart from your previous save
MUGEN SOULS Z
o Elka introduced as the Hero of Water World when she's the hero of the Fire World
o Slumbering Boss battles cause freezes in Mugen Field (Note: this has been patched as of July 2014)
NATURAL DOCTRINE
o Ending is not subbed when using Japanese. When someone asked about this, they were told to use the English dub instead
Yikes, those aren't good. Still, they all seem to be from games that came out before the time I started reviewing stuff from them, so they at least seemed to have improved with the crashing shit in recent years. (save for that Witch knight game which got panned for it) Nothing that would seem to indicate a company that does these things all the time in the modern era, but comes off more as bad missteps from the past.
THAT BEING SAID, the DLC stuff reminds me of RPG Maker Fes, a game from them I hated last year due to it literally requiring the DLC to even do much of anything, along with how the RPG Maker player app made dumping $40 pointless if you aren't already an expert from the PC versions, since the 3DS one barely teaches you anything and doesn't care if you upload a map without playtesting it. Those were issues in the original Japanese version too but still something crappy NISA could have fixed for Kadokawa. I still don't think Ys VIII was ever of the quality of any of these outside of the PC port we're all dealing the wrath of now, unfortunately.
Yup, it's not complete. Pretty much every fucking game they release has something. That list is not complete - games like Danganronpa 2 and V3 have issues too. Even the Disgaea games aren't free of occasional issues. They absolutely still do this.
As for Ys VIII, in its initial state it was widely regarded as one of their worst failings to date, including the stuff in that list. I'm glad most people have higher standards for localization than you do.
I think they do if you install through GOG galaxy.Do the free dlc in the GOG ver. dl automatically when I am downloading the main game?
I see thanks, I got the dlc before installing, so I'll check to see them installed once downloading completes.I think they do if you install through GOG galaxy.
The costumes got automatically installed for me. I had to install the free sets afterwards though, since I added those to my account after I'd already started downloading.
French version has some exotic moments...
Seriously guys :
What is that ? How did you do this french version ?
To english people, if I had to translate from french to english, it would say :
"Good, I have emptied what I needed to, I feel better, time to sleep now."
Well, it's Laxia onscreen but the sentence is said by Sahad, actually. It's kinda exotic. Maybe you don't see the point, but in french it could be interpreted as really sexual.
It was hilarious, but still, how did you manage to do the french localization ?
Out of curiousity I took a look at the Troubleshooting part of the Ys VIII Steam forum and...

Oh and I am not sure whether this is a some glitch/bug w/e exclusive to the PC version or also present in the patched PS4/Vita versions but *shrug*

A real dance party nowMan the strobe lighting/flickering issue is even worse in the nighttime version of the Coral Forest, basically happens in every area. At least it kind of goes with the music I guess, lol...
A patch is out on GOG, and it says it fixes controller polling. Is that the 8-way run issue, or is it something else?
It's right when it's about to hit you almost last second. How do you flash guard exactly. Someone says it by pressing the skill button at the right time...but nothing happens.
It was causing crashes where it kept sending signals to controllers etc. 8way isnt fixed yet but most crashing issues are
It's right when it's about to hit you almost last second.
The better technique to use is to Flash Dodge FIRST then when time is slowed stay in the active frames of the attack and weave a guard into it for both effects and the dodge is the safer option to do first when learning.
When you are in the flash guard or dodge state you take 0 damage/ hit stun from all sources and you can still apply the effect again dodging or guarding during an enemy's active frames of attack even if it would do no damage to you.
It's the best action rpg ever made imo. It's just so freaking satisfying mastering every boss fight. The music, the gameplay speed, the huge island, all the characters with their own movesets to figure out how to make the most out of.
I recompiled the shaders because the source code for them is still available inside the shader binary files.
Chinese leak shaders might be buggy, this is the current build shaders compiled with optimizations.

(To the developers, you left debug symbols and optimizations disabled, please fix that ASAP)
That post also explains the slowdown from the fade-out and blur effect. Essentially it does something really dumb, where it sends the framebuffer to the CPU to make frame-by-frame by changes, but copying the same framebuffer again, and again. That's bound to kill perf on any system. I guess this might be faster on the PS4 where CPU and GPU are essentially on the same chip?PC wizard JoseJL posted a new patch/mod/whatever re: the shaders which are a big reason for bad fps

the port that keepson giving
That's not it. The current translation is fine, while not able to reach Xseed's height. What most people complain about is the state of the port itself which then leads to the overall messy handling by NISA that includes the first fucked up translation.Oh so the "improved translation" is still busted then, got it. God, what a mess. I suppose I look forward to playing the game in a year after the community does NISA's work for them.
Controller icons are determined by a setting in options as far as I remember, I had to go in to change it from the directinput numbers which it selected by default. Symbols is Playstation, Letters is Xbox and Numbers is the old directinput number style. As someone who uses a PS4 controller with DS4Windows all of the time (even though some games have directinput support, it's easier for me to just leave the program running all the time), I'm happy that they gave a choice as most games I have to put up with xbox prompts regardless of the fact I'm not actually using an xbox controller.Hummm. The GOG version seems fine (patched) I had only one crash in 2 hours (the very first encounter on the island). I disabled V-sync (I have a monitor with G-sync), I play in 2560x1440, not problem with framerate, no problem with sound. Translation though is terrible in French. Not the worst, but sometimes it feels wrong.
My only complain atm is the wrong buttons display on actions/UI, it's very disturbing to have the Playstation ones (I'm using an Xbox controller).

I'm really not sure why they chose Symbols, Letters and Numbers as the descriptors though, I mean they technically aren't wrong but I don't think it's particularly intuitive.
NISA only worked on Ayesha. The other titles were localized by Acttil. This brings back a lot of bad memories. They also added game crashing bugs to one of the major stats menus to one of the Atelier Dusk games (might have been Ayesha but not certain). They DID patch that, at fucking least.
God, fuck NISA.
That big hole might be an important location for Dana.I can't stop thinking about Dana's Big Hole, thanks OP and NISA
PS Style and Xbox Style might be a better descriptor but imagine they want to avoid mentioning brand name hence Symbol, Letter, and Number.Controller icons are determined by a setting in options as far as I remember, I had to go in to change it from the directinput numbers which it selected by default. They could have just used images of the button icons for the selection, though. It avoids branding and is more easily understood.PS Style and Xbox Style might be a better descriptor but imagine they want to avoid mentioning brand name hence Symbol, Letter, and Number.
After thinking about it, having button prompt selection as an option is a really good idea. Honestly more game should take this route.
Is the "slight" flickering in Eroded Valley & Towering Coral Forest fixed yet? It was so bad in Eroded Valley i stopped playing till it's fixed .
It was Shallie upon checking google. Oh well. NISA still sucks.NISA only worked on Ayesha. The other titles were localized by Acttil.

The next step would be to lock the resolution at 544p now, if that's their angle. Go big or go home as the saying goes, right?
