Yay, account approved!

Actually hadn't played in a few weeks but jumped back on for the changes to Kapkan and Blitz. Haven't been on the receiving end of it yet but playing as Kapkan with 5 invisible traps has got me a bunch of hits. His traps are much more viable on windows now and with two extra you can plant them not only on the objective but also on entry points to the building and pathways to the objective itself. I've not sure how much its boosted his pick rate, in about 8 games I didn't run into any of his traps as an attacker.

Blitz rushing is so fun. One of the problems I found with him before is that it can be difficult to effectively close the gap even after blinding an enemy. Now you can right up in their face with some protection still and give them the ol' Steve Rogers treatment

Wait, you can disable Pulse's scanner for a whole round with the use of an EMP?

No, I think its knocked offline for just a short while?

Yeah sorry for my wording. I'm not sure if it is disabled for the whole round because usually everytime I knock it out Pulse get's focus-fired by the whole team. Generally speaking when this happens it's because Pulse was standing at a spawn facing window like an idiot lol. When I play Thatcher I always waste at least one EMP grenade at any spawn-facing windows with holes in them just to be safe.

I'll pick up the game again when I get paid. Would be good to play with some of you over the holidays and whatnot. The market for competitive shooters has been pretty underwhelming this year (COD and Battlefront don't really interest me).

I feel you. As much as I love Siege, definitely wouldn't mind another team based competitive shooter. Anyone know how the new Ghost Recon multiplayer is?

Would be more fun than it is if it didn't carry over the unresponsive controls from the base game. But if you didn't notice the input lag, then you'll likely have fun with it.

It's also kind of irritating how much it relies on explicit marking of players. Because the maps are clearly, not designed for PVP, they have to use the drone system and a central tower (that players can activate to see the opposing team) so as to centralise gameplay. In general, it feels like it would be better if it were designed with PVP in mind from the ground up, and objectives could have been used to centralise gameplay without excessive use of the marking system.

The devs always pick some interesting settings for map but don't seem to actually do anything with it in the end. That said, the new map looks good but I wanna see how it all fits together first and if the map provides something new in comparision to the other maps.

I really wanna see a big vertical mall or the like as map. This seems to be the next best thing.

I would say they certainly tried something different with Favela. It is comparable to Oregon in its opposing tower layout but with a much denser environment that has even more cross-angles, both inside and out.

It would've (will?) work[ed] with some more impenetrable exteriors and penetrable ceilings. They went a bit overboard on that.

I would really really love for them to do a proper skyscraper level where the attackers start on the roof and mostly have to rappel down rather than up. I think it would really turn things on their head.

That does sound cool but at the same time repelling leaves you quite vulnerable. So if you have to start the round by repelling down a building I feel there would be a problem of spawn peeking jump outs.

Thats were you would need a good map design.

Also rappeling from a helicopter would be cool. Even was in the very first trailer of the game.

You could easily have a few alternates like stairs and such to get down otherwise. It just seems like a pretty iconic CT entrance/scenario but we haven't seen it utilised yet.

A functionally similar alternative to the "true skyscraper map" where attackers start at the top is a fully underground map, like a sewer and/or subway. I'd like to see that.

It would be a hell of a design challenge, I bet.

Yo, just picked this up on Xbox. What operators should I unlock first?
Whoever sounds good to you. There's no real wrong answers.

The most beginner-friendly vanilla attackers include Sledge, Twitch, IQ, and Fuze. DLC: Buck, Ying.
Defenders: Rook, Doc, Pulse. DLC: Echo.
All these characters are easy to learn (though in some cases hard to master), non-essential yet helpful.

I dont really recommend any character thats easy to mess up teammates with other than fuze since hes usually activating all his shit before anyone is in the building.

However Echo and Ying are really easy to blind/stun your teammates with if you arent used to how the game flows

So is any character with flashbangs or smokes, so...

Echo's Yokai stun actually requires a relatively high level of precision. He's perfect for a new player who wants to anchor (defend the objective near the objective—which is recommended), and gather a bit of information (and learn the maps). He's a spicier pick for that than Rook or Doc.

And Ying's Candelas are literally super flashbangs. A plus for this is that should a new player misthrow a Candela, her unique immunity means they themselves won't be blind to them—only their teammates. So she's a fine pick for a new players. She's totally non-essential but still useful.

I mean, you're not wrong, haha. We almost made it to OT2 >:(

Largely agree with Disgraced's recommendations. That said,I'd put Ying on the back-burner for the meantime; her LMG is pretty woeful, her gadget is unreliable at best, and she costs 25,000 renown with which you can comfortably buy most if not all base operators with.

Attack: Sledge, IQ,Thermite and to a lesser extent Buck (costs 25,00) . All of their gadgets are simple to use and understand as well as being solid 'all-rounder' picks. Twitch if you're able to cheekily destroy defenders gadgets, especially Mira's windows, and resist temptation to just shock everyone.

Defenders: Rook, Doc, Pulse, Smoke are all good starters for simple objective defence imo. I'd recommend Castle but on the same condition as Twitch; that you have a general understanding of do's/don'ts (plenty of YouTube tutorials I'm sure).

There is. But in practice, not really unfortunately. *For all of the Candella's special functions, in the end you can accomplish just as much and bring more utility with another character that has flashes or smokes. They're just not amazing. Kind of nifty, but unamazing.

Just found this thread coming from the old Siege thread at the old place. I don't understand why a new discord was made instead of the one that's been used for the 2 years of Siege-GAF since release?

Regarding the post above about characters to start with...

Characters to avoid when you start playing: Characters that depend on map knowledge (like Fuze, because it's important you know what's on the other side, when you Fuze)

Characters to play when you start playing: Characters that help you build map knowledge, like Twitch, as you get to drone around and explore the maps, in a reduced risk environment.

None of the characters are that complicated, the barrier to this game is learning the maps, spots where people hide, and how to approach peeking, etc. I wouldn't worry too much if you do end up playing the more complex characters - because none of them are all that complex, but at the same time you could get over the more long-term learning barriers by picking characters that help you learn the maps faster.

As for defenders. I don't know, the same rule applies, but I don't know which defenders help you build map knowledge faster. Arguably someone like Kalplan, because you have to explore all of the buildings entry points to try out your traps etc.

I like the look of the new map, I just hope it plays differently compared to the current Skyscraper.

For Year 3 Op's I hope they include Italian, Belgian, and Finnish forces. Mainly for their weapons.

I also hope they start thinking outside the box for abilities. Would love to see an attacker with echolocation device. An attacker with a front-facing stealth curtain (like in that one Mission Impossible movie lol.) A defender who can utilize optical illusions or projections. A defender which via traps or special gun makes an attacker completely deaf for at least 30 second clips.

They really need to add ops that counter the current trap meta. Siege has almost lost those clutch exhilarating moments that made it so great because of all the traps.

Why would you suggest Ying (her guns are terrible right now) over Thatcher or Thermite
I never suggest essential characters to new players as their very first characters. Obviously, those are characters you should have and understand in the long run, but in your first games you're only going to be a burden to your team not knowing what to do with them.

"Thermite, open this. No, this. Press RB."

Not that. This."

"Aw, fuck."

Let the vets run the important shit. Let the noobs tag along, observe, and learn. You might say "you learn by doing not by watching," and to that I say Sledge and Rook do more than enough.

Any tips for learning the maps fully folks? Just playing normally or is it worth going in yourself? I'm clearance level 32 and I'm ranked etc but I still don't know the maps properly.

I think they should make recruits into a viable choice by giving them access to all the dlc weapons (in their vanilla state of course), giving them 2 reinforced walls like the rest and maybe give them a greater quantity of secondary gadgets than the rest of the operators.

Honestly Ying might be a bad choice for new players because you could end up flashing your teammates a lot which causes a lot of frustration. Those Candelas are kind of tricky to use since the fuse on them is the opposite of how every grenade in video games usually works. The longer your hold the charge, the longer it will take to blow.

If you want to be useful to the team you can't go wrong with Thatcher or mute. Their gadgets don't take a lot of learning but will help the team out a ton and people are always appreciative to have one.

I'd also suggest twitch, Sledge, rook and Frost. Their abilities won't make or break a match and they all have really good killing potential which will help transfer over skills from just any other shooter.

First game in a long time, in the first round we go down 1v4 defending, I "only" bring them down to 1v2 and then I get vote kicked. Yep that's Siege.

I hate being the last defender alive if I am not in a Squad for this exact reason. :( Sometimes even if you're the last attacker! I had a 1V5 offense once, and I got 3 kills but they kicked me anyway. Like sheesh, why would you throw away a chance at victory like that?

Thats why I hardly play casual except as a warm up. But I've hit plat 3 solo queuing an and starting to see the limits of solo queuing at this level. Seems like it will be hard to proceed. However, I did hit Plat 1 one season while solo queuing as well.

On another note, I do feel my aim is limiting me as well (console). Anyone have any tips in terms of sensitivity? Most console games I've come across don't have two individual sensitivities for horizontal and vertical planes so have no idea whether should be equal, bit different etc.

Being the last alive on the team is always the worst. I was left alone 1 v 3 earlier today and a vote to kick me within three seconds because I wasn't immediately pushing the objective. I killed everyone and we won the round. I went on mic and said thats what you get for trying to kick me.

Game's fun as hell. The round based nature makes it super addictive.

Y being less sensitive than X is very standard. I would say try half to three fourths of your X sens on your Y sens. I don't think any modern game ships with X/Y being equal for thumbstick controls.

I personally use 85 horizontal and vertical with deadzone at 5% and ads 65. The only trouble I ever have is valk cams are a little oversensitive
