Count me out for being blown away by 1p. Crackdown is nice and halo 6 just has to not show locke at all for everyone to be excited. But I'm more excited for the continued narrative of this evolution of the Xbox brand. Hopefully I'm wrong about 1st party tho...Do it, Phil. Knock my socks off.

I'm excited to see what they bring. That said, all these milestones don't really do anything for me. Mixer zzz, backwards compatibility zzz, GamePass with it's limited offering zzz. Hope they knock it out of the park with some new games.

I'm hyped! They need to bring the (exclusive) games though! Let's see if they can impress!

Still no actual sales numbers.

Nadella built his career on cloud and services and has moved nearly every Microsoft product further towards that direction, including Office and Windows. Hardware sale numbers don't seem especially important to them anymore, especially considering we don't even get Surface numbers and it's doing quite well. I don't think we'll get sale numbers anytime soon, if ever.

"Engagement" and "Attach Rate" are no more buzzwords than "Units Sold." Stop trying to bring that shit in here.

I'm curious if they'll even get there this gen to be honest.

Do we know how many Gold subscribers they have?
We don't. We only have Xbox Live monthly active users which includes people playing for free on Windows 10, iOS and Android.

But Sony has over 20 million PS+ subscribers correct? I would imagine Microsoft has at least 12 million Gold subscribers across Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

There's a difference though. The Game Pass subscriber amount can negatively or positively affect developers' willingness to put third party games on Game Pass and Microsoft is going to need that third party support because they can't release a big AAA exclusive every single month.

Sony has like over 30 million I think.

I just don't think they can get 10 million people to double dip both Gold and Game Pass.

Last time they had a great E3 was the year they announced the Master Chief Collection (still broken), Crackdown 3 (unreleased), Conker (in Project Spark), Phantom Dust (cancelled?), and Scalebound (cancelled). Even if they have a fantastic E3 this year, I'm still taking it with a grain of salt.

Sony has like over 30 million I think.

I think merging Gold and Game Pass (at a higher combined price) is something they fully plan on doing, but they probably want to see how far they can push Game Pass without doing that first. It's something I don't think will happen until after a Halo releases on it.

They'll combine Gold with Game Pass eventually if Game Pass continues having a positive effect on exclusive game sales and players like it did with Sea of Thieves. Not now but I would expect it to happen by next holiday if it continues creating successes like that.

If you don't like xbox why are you in this thread? I'm so confused on what people do this. Can't wait, personally I prefer my ps4 for exclusives but everything else, I play on xbox (can't stand Sony's online or ui). Cherry on top would be some awesome exclusives for the console like God of war or horizon. I really hope they actually bring something to the table... and it's not a deflating balloon come e3

Sure they can combine it, but what price do you imagine is good enough to get 10 million subscribers? I really don't think it's $10/month.

I think Microsoft is going to surprise everyone with how much 3rd party and Indie support they bought up. I'm full expecting Sony E3 2015.

Well, as always, Microsoft will have 90 minutes of my undivided attention to prove they get it.

As as per usual, I probably won't believe them.

Is it a record number of Xbox One players or a record number of Xbox players? I can't imagine there's more people than peak 360 era are there?

MS said something positive! Must be spin!
Or maybe they are just reporting generic numbers.
I hope E3 has at least a couple games I'm interested in. I don't care about new IP's persey, I'd honestly be happier with new perfect darks, fables, banjos, phantom dust as an actual AAA game, etc.
Don't care much about gears and halo spin offs but they wouldn't be negative if they look good.

I really hope this is more than PR talk,"fantastic" lineup can be subjective, especially in the eyes of a CEO :P

They pull a Netflix after Halo 6 releases (in 2019) and basically get rid of gold and add in online multiplayer as a benefit of Game Pass and they'll also add "playing the game a week early" as another benefit and then increase the price to $12-$14/month.

All Gold members will be transitioned to Game Pass with a notice saying their subscription is going up in 6 months a few dollars higher.

Yawn-inducing PR speak

I'm an Xbox guy and I refused to give them the benefit of the doubt here. Not expecting things to get better for another 3-4 years either.

New games are probably FH4 and third party stuff. Can't wait to see Minecraft and Sea of Thieves again.

Hopefully MS can put together a quality presentation. I have a hard time remembering when their last unquestionably great E3 showing was. 2011 maybe?

Difference is Sony reports Mau in addition to unit shipped/sold. While Microsoft don't nor do they give subscription numbers.
Yes when they are winning they will shout it loud, but it wasn't that long ago Sony was combining PS2 and PS3 in their own financial reports to hide PS3's bad performance.

It's a record number of Xbox Live players, so it included Xbox One players, Xbox 360 players, PC Windows 10 Play Anywhere players, Android, IOS, Nintendo Switch Minecraft players etc.

One point that I didn't think in the other thread, they having record engagement right on the period they are having the record sales wouldn't be a strong argument against the notion that the high engagement is just because the user base is small and hard-core?

No high expectations from me, I just expect a good show with lots of games. Lots of third party, some first party. Would love to be surprised though!

I just don't see 10 million people willing to spend $120-140 a year on it. It's 2-3x what people currently pay for Gold. It still just needs to be under $100/year if they want to hit 10 million.

Goodness, they've really got to bring it this year. I love my X, but I find myself playing the incredible BC titles for nostalgia sake more than anything. I think if they have better performance for RDR2 it could be a selling point, but they've lost the marketing deal. Maybe they struck a partnership with Activision for Black Ops 4? From a third party perspective, being honest about stronger performance on their machine is a given.

But we need games. And some new IPs. Crackdown 3 has to be shown strongly.

More hype and talk. Honestly out of the big 3 they talk the most. At this stage just shut up and let the games and services do the talking.

Use to be sales.
Use to be all about the MAU.
Now it's engagement lol
