Go to the link for other records such as how many friendships were made, how many clubs there are and how much players spent playing indie games, etc.
TL;DR: Microsoft broke a lot of records in 2018 so far.
I'm curious if they'll even get there this gen to be honest. They're not gonna announce numbers until they have 10 million subscribers and they'll use that number to attempt to get third parties on board. That's my prediction.
engagement >> actual numbersinteresting to see them choose not to show any specific numbers for how games pass is doing
Shouldn't especially you know that this is not their public metric anymore moving forward?
We don't. We only have Xbox Live monthly active users which includes people playing for free on Windows 10, iOS and Android.I'm curious if they'll even get there this gen to be honest.
Do we know how many Gold subscribers they have?
If they're waiting for 10 million I think it's going to be a long wait. They're not gonna announce numbers until they have 10 million subscribers and they'll use that number to attempt to get third parties on board. That's my prediction.
Over 34 million
Sony has like over 30 million I think. We don't. We only have Xbox Live monthly active users which includes people playing for free on Windows 10, iOS and Android.
But Sony has over 20 million PS+ subscribers correct? I would imagine Microsoft has at least 12 million Gold subscribers.
There's a difference though. The Game Pass subscriber amount can negatively or positively affect developers' willingness to put third party games on Game Pass and Microsoft is going to need that third party support because they can't release a big AAA exclusive every single month.

I just don't think they can get 10 million people to double dip both Gold and Game Pass.

34.2 million to be exact.Sony has like over 30 million I think.
I just don't think they can get 10 million people to double dip both Gold and Game Pass.
They'll combine Gold with Game Pass eventually if Game Pass continues having a positive effect on exclusive game sales and players like it did with Sea of Thieves. Not now but I would expect it to happen by next holiday if it continues creating successes like that.Sony has like over 30 million I think.

Microsoft aren't the only ones that decided to measure user activity rather than raw sales.
Sea of Thieves, the fastest-selling Microsoft Studios new IP of this console generation
Sure they can combine it, but what price do you imagine is good enough to get 10 million subscribers? I really don't think it's $10/month.They'll combine Gold with Game Pass eventually if Game Pass continues having a positive effect on exclusive game sales and players like it did with Sea of Thieves. Difference is Sony reports Mau in addition to unit shipped/sold. While Microsoft don't nor do they give subscription numbers.Microsoft aren't the only ones that decided to measure user activity rather than raw sales.

They pull a Netflix after Halo 6 releases (in 2019) and basically get rid of gold and add in online multiplayer as a benefit of Game Pass and they'll also add "playing the game a week early" as another benefit and then increase the price to $12-$14/month.Sure they can combine it, but what price do you imagine is good enough to get 10 million subscribers? They said specifically they are just comparing this year to last year.Is it a record number of Xbox One players or a record number of Xbox players? I can't imagine there's more people than peak 360 era are there?
Yes when they are winning they will shout it loud, but it wasn't that long ago Sony was combining PS2 and PS3 in their own financial reports to hide PS3's bad performance.Difference is Sony reports Mau in addition to unit shipped/sold. While Microsoft don't nor do they give subscription numbers.

Yeah, though Sony regularily posts MAUs, PS+ subscribers, consoles shipped and consoles sold through numbers.Microsoft aren't the only ones that decided to measure user activity rather than raw sales.

Not when Xbox live player is more broad then it previously was. Minecraft users on PC/Switch/Mobile are Xbox live users. Is it a record number of Xbox One players or a record number of Xbox players? I can't imagine there's more people than peak 360 era are there?
I just don't see 10 million people willing to spend $120-140 a year on it. It's 2-3x what people currently pay for Gold. It still just needs to be under $100/year if they want to hit 10 million. They pull a Netflix after Halo 6 releases (in 2019) and basically get rid of gold and add in online multiplayer as a benefit of Game Pass and they'll also add "playing the game a week early" as another benefit and then increase the price to $12-$14/month.
All Gold members will be transitioned to Game Pass with a notice saying their subscription is going up in 6 months a few dollars higher.
So you agree that when a company hides number it probably means they're bad?Yes when they are winning they will shout it loud, but it wasn't that long ago Sony was combining PS2 and PS3 in their own financial reports to hide PS3's bad performance.
Engagement is pretty important don't you think? Otherwise publishers would still be making games for PS2 if hardware sales are the most important metric.Guess ENGAGEMENT is going to be the new buzzword going forward.
