The DS4's overall shape feels pretty ergonomic to me.

But I'll tell you what's garbage, the shape of the analog sticks.

I do not understand why are they concave. After a few hours of playing God of War my thumbs start to hurt, it's like that concave shape is pressing into my thumbs. I've never had this issue with the convex analog sticks of the previous dual shocks.

The Dual Shock 4 is the most comfortable controller I've ever held. I've been playing the Switch almost exclusively for the last few months because that's just the games I'm playing, and my hands are half numb like 70% of the time I'm playing games with that. I'd get a pro-controller, but I'm mostly just using it as a handheld.

I've got pretty large hands, and the joy-cons are the only controllers I've ever felt deserve the "controller is too small' argument. I deal with it because I like that form factor though.

yeah it's pretty bad. I was actually surprised how cheap the controller feels

I think there are adapters that you can buy so you can use other controllers though. seems like a solid solution

For me it goes xbox one > PS4 > 360. I really love my ps4 controller, but it also fits quite well into my hands, so handsize could be a huge factor for it.

Switch joycons are kind of a pain to use by themselves though, I need at least the little grips to not be annoyed.

I'm 6'5" with hands to match, and I find the DS4 to be incredibly comfortable to the point that it might be my GOAT. My only issue was getting used to symmetrical sticks after the 360, but I'm fine with it now.

Probably the best controller I've ever used. Actually held a Ps3 controller recently and wondered how I played with it in the past lol.

Guess I just adapt to controllers easily.

Feels good resting in my hands, but I just don't like the symmetrical sticks. Always feels like my left thumb is stretching too much after extended sessions. Wish they'd offer a good alternative asymmetrical stick controller too. Battery is pure garbage though compared to most other wireless controllers on the market. With all that said, like some others have said, after picking up a PS3 controller I'm amazed I spent a good 8 years using that thing.

It's pretty garbage. I can't even keep my thumbs on the sticks while playing. I have to stop playing and readjust the controller in my hand every few minutes which is terrible for Bloodborne. Can't imagine playing multiplayer games with it.

I've only played one game where this was an issue, Cuphead on the PC. Co-op with my friend at his place, only DS4 available. 45 minutes later and holy cramp.

Xbone S controller is pure win and head to head no cramping issues with cuphead.

The original Xbox One controller is such a huge step back from the Xbox 360 controller. The L and R buttons not detecting clicks unless you were closer to the inside was nonsense, and the triggers felt mushy for any game that didn't use rumble feedback (almost all of them).

The newer iterations are much better.

That said, I still way prefer the Dualshock 4, but enjoy what you want to enjoy, people.

Edit: Microsoft still doesn't know how to make a good D-pad on their normal controllers and it is a crime.

I've never been a fan of playstation joypads, but the DS4 is probably my favourite of them to hold. My only gripe with it is the annoying touchpad thing in the middle.

I suppose people who prefer the xbox placement of analog sticks play certain types of games that they like that setup with because I've always found the playstation placement better to use and more... visually pleasing.

DS4 is a very good controller but it has some things i don't like about it. The sticks are definitely bad and slip all the time in the middle of the action, the materials used for the sticks are slippery and just don't keep your thumbs in place.

The triggers also could be better, they feel cheap and have that plastic click to them. Overall, these 2 things annoy me a lot about the controller but other than that, it's a great controller.

I do prefer the Xbox One controller though. It has perfect sticks and triggers. Those triggers feel so good. And the grip on them is just great. But my big downside is the weight of the controller, it's a bit on the heavy side. If i can put lighter batteries inside, it would definitely help.

I have fairly big hands and I like The DS4. Definately the best controller Sony put out to date.

The 4-6 hours I get from my controllers put it on the bortom of The list in the current era of controllers though.

If you have an xbox controller already just get a brook converter. Problem solved. But not if you have a ps4 pro with the sunken in usb ports ......

DualShock 4 is the most comfortable one for me. I'd prefer the XB1 controller, but it's not super comfy for my pointer finger. Still not as bad as the portable switch though. Your best bet here would be an adaptor though.

DS4 and Xbox One are both the best and most comfortable controllers I've ever owned. Never get cramps like I did with others over the years, but my hands are kind of smallish.

My solution was just avoid using my PS4 except when I need to. I love my PS4. I just wish it came with a better controller. Adapters are not a perfect solution, so for me they're not a solution at all.

The solution is for Sony to make a better controller. I would have used my PS4 far more this generation if it had a better controller.

Personally like the DS4 controller. In my opinion it goes Xbox, Pro, DS4 but honestly they are all good controllers. Then again I don't have mammoth hands.

Have big hands and have no issue with DS4, I do not find Xbox One /Elite controller comfortable however.

DS4 seems pretty nice to my big hands, but I still remember what the older DualShocks were like and how much of an improvement was made this gen.

Nah, much prefer the DS4. The Xbox controller is too chunky, sharp, the bumpers aren't good. The main thing the Xbox controller does better is the sticks, they're awful on the Dualshock 4 - too short, poorly shaped.

I've owned every Playstation ever - but PS3 and PS4 I purchased two and five years into their respective life cycles. During the lead up, I played only on Xbox controllers. What I'll say is that my left thumb was prone to discomfort and cramping the first few extended play sessions (especially on PS4). But after I got used to it, it feels fine. As opposed to some people, I actually kinda dig the new Dualshock thumbsticks, being concave and convex at the same time somehow. It let's me use the edge of my thumbs for general movement and such, and the tip for slightly more precise aiming and pointing.

Overall, I do prefer the Xbox family of controllers, but Playstation controllers are fine too and not anything that turns me off of wanting to play games on their console or anything.

For one thing, when referring to hand size it helps to apply a metric to that. Typical hand measurements are based on palm circumference, and mine are ~9.5, which typically correlates to L - XL glove size. In my time with the DS4 (which is less than 10 hours total), I've found it to be slightly uncomfortable, but not unbearable. If I were to purchase a PS4, I'd likely look for alternate controller solutions.

For me the Xbox One is the most comfortable controller, followed by the 360 pad. I only used the Switch controllers for about 20 minutes, but much preferred the Pro controller to the Joy Cons (regardless if attached to the Switch, independent, or in the grip).

I have fairly large hands (using the metric that SeanMN suggested, I'd wear L-XL gloves). I find the DS4 to be the most comfortable because of how it lets me hold my hands slightly further apart, whereas the Xbox One and Switch Pro controllers both feel slightly cramped. I don't have an issue using any of them, but my preference between the 3 is definitely the DS4. I think the Xbox One controller has the best build quality so I wish that there was a hybrid that combined its best aspects with the DS4's ergonomics. I don't really have a preference between parallel and offset sticks, I can switch between them without really noticing.

Yeah, the Dualshock 4 is mediocre in light of the Xbox One controller. Get an adapter if you can for your particular situation.

While I disagree, not everybody is built the same. Gamestop has the old Duke xbox controller coming out pretty soon. May want to take a look into that and getting an adapter. Plus the bonus feature of working with a PC without an adapter or additional software

It's not my ideal controller, but I can palm a basketball and the DS4 seems sized just fine. It's a nice step up from the DS3, which I could agree felt a bit small (mostly re: width).

I find the DS4 to be a step up from the DS3, but if I play my PS4 for a decent chunk of time / consistently over the course of a few days, my hand can cramp to the point where I have an aching hand the next day. Wish it wasn't like this. Build quality has been fine, FWIW. I don't get the same cramping from and XBO / X360 / Switch Pro controller.

The only thing I dislike about the DS4 are the thumb sticks, I slapped some Kontrolfreeks on them tho which gave them some more length and better grip/texture and they're perfect for me know.

I really dont like the controller, and find it uncomfortable, but maybe thats because my hands are super used to Xbox One controllers.
