The Infinity War Spoiler Mode was excellent. Very thorough, tons of interesting discussions, and Damiani crushed it as the host.

The intro song is pretty damn hilarious too lol.

Final Fantasy XV, Witcher 3 or More Automata would all make for fantastic spoiler modes and some of them were even promised at one stage or another.

I get you, but I feel like the world has moved on. I hope they keep it recent as I feel like it will bring more people into the Patreon fold.

The FF15 spoiler mode actually exists. It's just part of a frametrap episode cause spoiler mode wasn't a series yet if I remember correctly. But they def had a really indepth spoiler talk about it.

(Although trying to find it quickly again wasn't successful so I'm questioning myself now if I didn't just imagine it although I still don't think that I did.)
Haven't listened to it myself since I have yet to finish FFXV, but episode 18 of FrameTrap has FFXV discussion for over an hour and a half according to timestamps. The description also warns about spoilers.

Just started playing God of War and I wonder if I can put off my cynicism towards it to even be able to appreciate the game lol.

Yeah a seperate vid might be too much but here's a few ideas:

- Just a 3-4 second picture saying 'Spoiler mode infinity war - Patreon exlusive. Out now' at the end of Huber Syndrome, Easy Update,.. or at the start of their livestream during the wait time.
- promo vid with small snippets of it (without spoilers) to put on facebook and twitter.
- a small frame on their livestream
For Youtube they can make a post with an image, it appears on the subscription feed.

They could upload a little video at the end of each month with some footage of the Patreon exclusive stuff and be like: "These are our Patreon exclusive videos of March 2018: 4x Cup of Jones, 1x Spoiler Mode: Infinity War, 1x And For That Reason #1. For just one Dollar a month you get to see all of our past and upcoming exclusive shows."

Somethimg like that. I think people need a constant reminder, that they're missing out as non-patrons.
I know there won't be an AFTR this month. 'Twas just an example, jeez.

Just mention it at the end of some videos. I know I quickly turned off the non-video feed on my YouTube subscriptions.

Their first Patreon exclusive Spoiler Mode is about a film. Fucking hell.

I bet we'll see more film ones than game ones too because it's obviously a lot easier for a majority of them to watch something in two hours than it is for them to sit through a 20 hour campaign.

Shouldn't be that much of a surprise. Biggest movie event of the year & they've mentioned multiple times IW was going to be the first exclusive for awhile.

Final Fantasy XV, Witcher 3 or More Automata would all make for fantastic spoiler modes and some of them were even promised at one stage or another.

Already said earlier, but I feel like we're past the point of getting these, IMHO.

Yeah, Damiani did great. I know he's talked about the MCU before, but I didn't realize his level of investment was that high.

I wouldn't call myself a Marvel fan but I had the spoiler mode on as background as I placed roof tiles in Dragon Quest Builders and the conversation was A+. Damiani did a great job hosting and his passion/knowledge makes me want to check out some of the comics to see if that would be more my style.

Their Infinity War Spoiler Mode was top notch, no question about it.

(Minor complaint: I could have done without set photo and other BTS discussion of Avengers 4 filming. I don't feel that is in the spirit of an Infinity War Spoiler Mode.)

I've fallen off of watching streams, skimming some Easy Allies Plays stuff and Kyle screaming at his neighbors through the wall is the escalation I didn't know I needed

I hope Spoiler Mode doesn't end up like EZAnime where they feel forced to get into something every month even if it's not necessarily what they want to play in their time. I guess with there being more potential cast members the problem will be alleviated. And they can fall back on movies which is good.

I hadn't tuned in for a Kyle stream in a bit, so it was nice to see those fucking neighbors were still giving him trouble lol.

I love his recent story of listening in on the guys conversation about needing to work on their bands Instagram/marketing game.

I'm gonna need a link to this one

They said movies would generally be bonus episodes, so there should be a game most months. Honestly, there's enough games out there that enough of them are into for it to work well, it will just force them to actually finish some of them a bit more timely.

Yeah you're probably right. It is nice that it means we'll get more months where around 4 allies have played something to completion

They mention it in the podcast. That's enough
I humbly beg to differ. More publicity on YouTube is something they really need.

The podcast reaches about 30k views, the channel has 155k subs. A quick video now and then, to promote some exclusive stuff or the Patreon in general is a good idea. People not interested simply won't watch it, or at worst a few will leave a mildly disappointed comment. Plenty of people will instead become patrons to watch the exclusive stuff: this was proven again and again with the CoJ-like videos they posted on YouTube.

I dunno what's wrong with the Allies and not wanting to promote themselves and what they do enough, it's like they're afraid of scaring people off, or to appear greedy, yet their "marketing" is totally not in your face and very self-contained, they aren't at a point where people are telling them "shut up", they aren't even remotely close to that point. Look at Kinda Funny for an example of borderline too much.

I'm not saying to get to crazy levels of self-promotion, but their game could definitely be upped as of now, without repercussions. Now that their Patreon is doing good, that they've got quite the exposure and that E3 is coming, it's the time to self-promote more, so that they can reap the benefits and maybe diminish the self-promotion once they reach and hold that 50k goal.

They could upload a little video at the end of each month with some footage of the Patreon exclusive stuff and be like: "These are our Patreon exclusive videos of March 2018: 4x Cup of Jones, 1x Spoiler Mode: Infinity War, 1x And For That Reason #1. These could also be good ideas to try out.

So I was not suggesting this as a serious thing. I am just shocked how that patreon is making 96k a month and everything on their page is patreon exclusive. You can barely even figure out anything about them from the Patreon page.

I am almost certain they have their fans from somewhere else.
If I would start a patreon and ask $5 for a podcast each week, I would get nothing (and that would be justified as well as I would probably suck at it).

They were probably already big before they started their patreon campaign.
But yeah, I was somewhat flabbergasted as well when I saw the difference between them and the other patreon campaigns, especially the first time I saw it, but even now (and they keep growing as well).

Chapo Trap House is a leftist political podcast, something that is uniquely suitable in the Trump era. I wouldn't consider what they do something that is easy to translate to other Patreon campaigns.

Chapo Trap House is definitely helped by the current political climate, but their growth was pretty organical and steady. They needed two whole years to reach this level, when they started they were smaller than Easy Allies and they simply kept growing in time. What could work in the future (as a counter measure if the Patreon gets stuck or starts decreasing again) is making an extra podcast (something unrelated to specific news, like the "games coming in May" one) or Frame Trap episode per month and make that exclusive to 1 or 5 dollars patrons, or possibly use it as a 2 dollars tier. The YouTube audience would keep getting what they've got so far and the 30k podcast/FT viewers would be motivated to get on Patreon and give a few dollars. They'd get a couple of thousands of patrons easily that way, so they'd make 2k, 4k or 10k more per month, depending on the Patreon tier they'd choose.

I get that more publicity would probably bring more patrons, but constantly posting videos that only advertise the Patreon page seems like it will drive more people away IMO. It's great to mention it at the end of reviews, podcasts, etc. and more often during the big conferences like PSX and E3, but in the downtime it feels a little awkward and seems like it will drive people away from the community because they don't feel included if they're not patrons.

A monthly patreon update from Jones about the exclusives released that month and what's coming next feels like a must. We've already seen the benefits of keeping the youtube audience informed, it'd be stupid to stop now.

Agreed, no pyjamas this time would most def help them grow and reach a new audience, just give the people what they want to see. Dont know if Twitch would allow the Allies to stream naked tho.

I'd tweak it a little. Rather than a "Patreon update" post, I'd make it a general "whats new at Easy Allies" monthly post. Perhaps at the end of the month? Just to recap what came out.

I agree with most of your post regarding the necessity of promotion and letting people know exactly what you're getting. The Allies seem really conscious about not overpromoting themselves, so I'm sure they could find a nice middle ground that informs the audience about the Patreon-locked content but isn't overly in-your-face about it. Szeth's idea above is really good also.

Regarding Chapo Trap House, though, I would argue that the reason it does well is because when it first came out, it was the only real political podcast alternative for its target audience (political podcasts being super popular is a relatively new phenomenon [see the success of Pod Save America]). EZA, on the other hand, wasn't the first on to the scene, and there are plenty of other gaming personalities and podcasts out there so I didn't think your initial idea to lock entire episodes behind Patreon was a good idea (too much competition out there already). More exclusive Patreon content (though maybe not the podcasts themselves) to further entice the existing audience is always a good idea though (esp. since I think the audience that's subscribing on Patreon for goodwill is mostly tapped).

I'm really surprised by the comments about the visuals for that GBA Spyro game. I thought it looked fantastic, especially for a portable game from like a decade ago.
