It's really surprising that so many people hate muspelheim and nifelheim, I'm so in love with the combat that I was thrilled when realizing what both of them were, I love that it's giving me an outlet for just pure combat.

I have a ton of fun with both, any excuse to play around in that sweet sweet combat sandbox is a plus in my book.

They're fun modes for pure combat but seemed like a waste that an entire realm was dedicated to one activity with no story involvement, imo.

Here's hoping we meet
Surtur at some point in the sequel

Sorry but I can't get over how bad it was, game straight up went from 10/10 to 5/10 for me, even the cutscene was stupid, like why is Kratos panting so much after killing just a re-skinned troll? He literally fucking take down a D and brush it off like its nothing, I almost feel like the entire Hel level is done by a different studio.

Don't understand how anyone can say the game is a perfect 10/10 after that, your love really gotta be blind.

Talk about hyperbole. And then the audacity to say "your love gotta be blind" lol.

The only level I don't like in the game is Niflheim. I HATE game mechanics like that mist which drains your health. Pure garbage.

These particle effects are insane. I love how colorful the game feels. I think this is why Sony games look so much better than everything else out there, not because they are pushing the best tech but because their artists and engineers come together to make some beautiful AND technically impressive.

I agree with the other realms not being so great. I like Aflheim and Hell but they too feel sort of tacked on. Midgard imakes up for it tho, the center hub anyways.

Muspelheim and Niflheim are seriously so so bad.

Can't be worse than Hel, it's literally a garbage map with a troll in the end.

Yeah some of these other realms are so awful. I unlocked Niflheim last night finally and was stunned at how bad it was.

Muspelheim is basically the challenge of the gods mode inserted into the story itself which I'm not sure how to feel about. I think I would prefer these worlds to be actual worlds even if they're smaller in scope.

It's pretty much the same for me, one thing I love about recent games I've played or playing such as Bloodborne, Horizon, Nier, Monster Hunter and GOW is that I can just load them up, go into a combat situation and after just say an hour I've got some nice footage I can make gifs out of. Combat and animations are so good it doesn't take much. :D

Couldn't agree more. Bloodborne is a tricky one though since you can't toggle it in an immersive-style similar to Horizon and God of War. Sorta the reason I don't make them for BB and that I suck lol

I had FC5 before GoW released but stopped playing it. Thank god the missions are fun atleast or I would've dropped the game again and come back to it later. I'm not planning to buy anything now even though I'm tempted to get Battlefront II since it's $24 on Xbox. The only thing stopping me is the game size..
I can recommend Battlefront 2. Great game.

I only unlocked Muspelheim post game on my first playthrough, I knew it was optional side content so didn't bother until I started my second playthrough, but I think it's awesome. An arena where you can practice with unlimited health and enemy re spawns is awesome to just learn the combat and experiment. Whenever I play a game like Nier for instance on PC I always use a trainer, set the health to unlimited and just mess around with the combat, love that there's an option like that in this game.

It only drains your health if you don't manage your time.

Both end game worlds offer more combat. What's wrong with that? I had a blast going through all of it.

Agree, liked the challenge they offer, but not liking the fact they are realms, which are supposed to be part of the story and lore.

I think the game in general is a 9.5/10 outside of Hel, Nefl and Muspel, too bad they are not only part of the game but part of the world as well, I would be lying if I said they didn't hurt my experience of the game at all.

Yeah it's a little tricky with games that don't have an immersive style HUD, you have to guess when it's time to pop a potion, but there's tells, such as in BB when your character makes a grunt after a hit you know it's time to heal, I also play a section with the HUD enabled in some games, let the enemy attack so I have some sort of idea what kind of damage they do, then continue with the HUD disabled knowing now when I would need to heal. With Bloodborne it was difficult at first, but once I hit a point just before the halfway mark I'd say the game became much more easy, not completely easy, but it was a point where there wasn't much that troubled me, I quite easily played the rest of the game with the HUD disabled completely and it wasn't a problem.

The special locks/doors you need the
chisel
to open don't show up on the map once found, do they? I found almost all of them before I got the thing I needed and now I can't remember where they all were.

What is the quickest way to level up and get all the best gear/talismans/enchantments after end game? I'm playing on God of War mode so I favor Runic and Cooldown because 2-3 hits ends you no matter what, lol.

I think I prefer the simplicity of old God of War's upgrade system. This game overwhelms me with all of its options, things to equip, abilities to buy, what abilities to upgrade, all the stats for various things etc. Old God of War was just collect red orbs, use them to upgrade your weapons and magic. Explore a little to find stuff to increase your max health and magic. Simple, easy to understand, never really had to think about anything.

New God of War just overwhelms me a little with all its options. I'm not a gamer who does well when I'm presented with options. I think harder than I need to, waste time looking at menus and inventory screens. That's why I'm more of a the simpler the better kinda guy.

It's just how modern game is and will be, I personally really liked it.

I'm sad to admit that I vastly prefer to play games like this for "the experience" / "for the story", so I picked the easy difficulty. However, had a great time, finished it yesterday. Truly a great game, hope they have financial success.

With that said, a few things I never really understood:
  • Crafting new gear more or less always had worse stats than whatever I already had (upgraded). Is the idea that you take a hit, but are supposed to then upgrade?
  • Eventually I understood that the big number in the options was my "level"? What happens when it is changed? When does it change?

Just find runic attacks you like and upgrade those. Armor just equip and upgrade what it shows you boosts your level. The skill tree you can easily fully unlock everything, so no need to stress over that. I got the plat and had over 600K XP left. I went in and fully upgraded every runic attack and summons I had for the hell of it and still had well over 300K XP.

There's a lot of options with the runic attacks, but you really don't need to bother trying them all if you're just playing on normal. The game is quite easy after the first few hours as long as you just focus on unlocking all skills and getting better armor and enchantments to boost your overall level—there's not real need to worry about the stat categories etc. unless playing on high difficulty.

Most of the loot and armor is useless. There's usually one or two sets that are clearly the best at your current stage.

The level goes up as you get better gear, better enchantments and unlock skills. It effects all your stats and makes the game easier. i.e. those purple bar enemies that are way above your level and hard as hell become easy as hell once you're higher level.

I was obviously talking about the first visit.

It was pretty intense but yeah I can see people getting really frustrated by it, but hey it's supposed to be a challenge remember?

Just went through this level for the first time last night. I did not enjoy it as much as some of the other areas i have gone through, but certainly has not ruined the game for me as much as it seems to you. Thought it was the best troll fight so far. He had a much better moveset.

That's a good tip. I do agree it gets easier for the most part, but fuck the Orphan of Kos. That boss is a real bitch. Hate him lol

I guess it comes down to expectations. They are literally just small maps where you can fight endless amounts of monsters an get some loot for it.
If people expected something like Alfheim or Midgard, I am sure it disappointing.
I personally liked both areas, I was hoping for a way to just enjoy the combat.

I think it's probably mostly different people. For people playing more for the story, exploring the big hub area and solving puzzles and finding chests those places suck. For those that love the combat, they probably mostly like those areas.

Point being, when there are divergent opinions in threads it's often not the same people.

Got the last Trophy for the platinum. Really good game, not the game of the generation or anything crazy like that but its really good. GOTY candidate for sure. One of the few games I've completed 100% and still wish I had more to do. Only real problem I had with the game was boss variety. A lot of repeated bosses at times with a few twists and although I liked the final 'superboss' the fights leading up to it got old pretty quickly. Would've liked some more interesting boss encounters and maybe a few more types of enemies. Theres basically that one enemy type that is either fire, ice, or poison despite them all looking somewhat different they all feel way to similar IMO and you see them constantly.

The story was really well told despite not being at all what I expected, Mimir was by far the best character and I hope he's still around in the sequel. Only real complaint I had for the story itself is that it feels like the entire game is meant to setup sequel(s) which is okay on one hand because I still thought this story was really well told but on the other it feels like Act 1 of a much larger story, it doesn't feel like a singular story at all IMO that might not bother some people and I get that but I would have preferred a more singularly told story. The game goes at length to talk up certain characters that never once even make any appearance but obviously will in the sequels to come.

Also after I got my platinum I looked at the trophies and considering how many copies the game sold the amount of people who have played the game through to the end or hell even the middle is pretty crazy.

I'm enjoying Muspleheim quite a lot, Niflheim I'm ok with, I just have a problem with how much grinding one has to do to get the aesirbane to upgrade equipment.

Do the Valkyries get easier as you level? Im level 6 and either I get my ass whooped or barely scrape by. Also, Im still not very clear how you level up, is it purely based on XP? Or is it only when you upgrade the Ax?

I do hope for the next game that they have more combos. A bit disappointed that there is only the R1>R1>R1>R2 for the axe. I get that crowd control is the main purpose of the combo but more unique combos would have been great.

Also, any1 else feel that the stance switch should happen slightly quicker?
