Sony charged me 10 bucks to play Monster Hunter World for a month and another 10 to learn that it starts under auto renewal.
Forgive me if I'm not upset about a measly $20 a year.

Nah. This isn't a surprise. We've known for over a year this was coming. They've been very up front about this. People have been prepared. The amount of games (the series they're apart of) they'll be offering with online play to will more then enough to justify the price of $20 a year. Pokemon (if paid), Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Splatoon 2, Mario Tennis, and several others are games people will want to keep playing if they've played them for this long. The price is low enough that the majority of people won't have an issue paying either yearly or for a few months at a time. I don't expect or believe there will be a massive drop off once the services goes live.

I'm willing to bet 90% or more of current Switch owners would prefer a handful of N64 and GC VC games over NES games with added online. Like...I just don't know why they're choosing to put their development effort there. I shouldn't be surprised though - Nintendo has always had a knack for doing the unfathomable.

Same. But my WiFi is fine at home when undocked. I even play WiFi at the Disney resort and unless they put me in a room all the way on the outskirts of the resort, I have no issues. When they do do that, my phone and laptop also go dead.
Even at my work It still is usually fine, some RL games have had some bad stuttering at times.

Sounds exactly like what I expected, although to be honest I was preparing myself for no cloud saves. I just hope the NES games thing is expanded to other systems soon after launch.

So I take it we will see a Resetera Nintendo Family thread of sub sharing around September?

Family plan!!!?? YES!!! Instead of paying $80 a year, I'll be paying $35 now. Gonna be using this 100% legit too unlike most people hah.

I put free in quotes for a reason. It's the perception, like always. And the mass market will accept it regardless, is my point
Fair point but it still doesn't stop in from being shit. Lets get real here for a second, Nintendo is the pub by far that could truly have a Netflix of gaming just using their own library over built over the last 30 years. It could be totally separate from online and people would still pay. This stingy NES crap is so backwards I don't even know where to start. Its clear they still don't understand Online or the goldmine they are sitting on. They could get $120 yearly but they would rather make $70 whenever they come out with a mini.

There is logic with starting with a bunch of NES games first, and then piece mealing more games into new systems later. But I can get if the type of person who wants everything immediately would be too impatient for that.

Voice chat still requires the mobile app? Are they fuckin high? NES games...yay? I guess?

At least the service is cheap, but I don't see myself paying for it as I don't do online on Nintendo systems.

Now Nintendo, where the virtual console at? And please trot them out faster than you did on the Wii U.

I mean, yeah, I'd prefer not to pay for stuff period but $20/year or less makes it pretty more acceptable. I don't care about cloud saves anyway so I'm pretty meh about that.

$20 a month to play classic NES games? I'll take it. Really worried that this only specifies NES though. Hope they have some kind of plan in place for SNES/N64/Gamecube/Handheld stuff too.

What evidence do we have that Nintendo will follow through fully with that. VC on Wii U and Wii left a lot to be desired especially with release frequency.

Do you honestly think a system that has more RAM dedicated to its OS than the 360 had total can't handle party chat?

I don't want to? I don't get why it was possible on Vita but isn't on Switch. My understanding is that it's down to architecture, and that is still not a satisfying answer.

It is the only Switch shortcoming that actually bothers me. I hope a better solution happens.

That 700 should probably go to a GPU or two IMO. That's ludicrous to pay for the "services" and temporary rentals offered.
The majority of that was from the Halo 2 and 3 years. I haven't had Xbox Live or PS+ for awhile now. Usually just sub for a month if there's a game I want to play, which isn't that common.

I feel like it's a little unfair to accuse people of being impatient on that front... This service is launching 18 months after the console launches and they're not even mentioning the other systems at this point. These games are as old as I am lol.

There's nothing "immediate" about any of this. It's actually pretty incredible that they had to delay the whole thing a year and the only new info we have is cloud saves (absolutely non-negotiably mandatory. A bit of an understated disaster that they're going 1.5 years with no form of save backups) and the family plan.

Because the original deal was renting NES and SNES games. If they're just gonna keep it to only NES games, then there would actually be problems brought up with their shareholders on why this was stepped back.
I think this might cause more frustration than expected, in my household.
15 bucks more and they can all do it.

Seriously there are tons of threads where people can moan about paying for online.

This thread is for information. So I don't get why people come in here and start saying it should be free, when we known for a long time we are paying for it. There's about 5 or 6 threads you can moan in.

So will VC ever return? NES games are great and all... But they are the last thing I would actually choose to buy on a theoretical virtual console store on switch.

Looks kinda shit. If Smash has online performance comparable to other modern fighting games though, guess I'll have to buy it. At least it's cheap.

$20 a year for the NES games is pretty good, with cloud saves that's a bonus. Honestly if they put up a bundle with 20 NES games for $20 right now I would probably buy it. It'll be interesting how they move forward with additional games though.

Do we know what will happen to your cloud saves if you unsubscribe? I have to imagine they would still be available when you resubscribe later, but I could definitely see Nintendo deleting them immediately after you unsubscribe

This thread went fast, but I noticed that will be able to actually do party chat via the app now? Or an I miss reading? I guess we can at least chat without being in game now with it correct

Edit: nope, misread. Still the same-o lame-o version.
