The Rocket Barrel levels are kind of annoying :( Any tips on how to better control the barrel?
I'm finding them better than in DKCR.

Just beat world 6 boss and got credits so now does the real game begin?
Also the music is absolutely fucking....just ok. There was some decent stuff in there like grasslands theme and irate eight but I don't understand why everyone jizzes themselves over the soundtrack. I mean do you people also really dig Kenny G?
It's still somewhat better than Returns's trial by fire with that screeching maniac. The game doesn't make a good job teaching how to control the rocket, certainly. Remember that you only have to hold the button in order to ascend and that it's not neccessary to push it repeatedly like many people think.
I like how Grassland Groove has like a 2 minute looped song that's completely unique that only plays if you idle under the stage clear barrel.
Some of the music choices are a little... odd in places, since they made completely unique bits of music for pieces of gameplay that can't possibly last long enough to hear the full song.

He deserves what the snowmads did to him and so much more.
The unique themes for the Rodent Ruckus goal barrel and Sawmill Thrill final checkpoint are equally as baffling.
Kind of enjoying it. But so far the levels are a bit uninteresting/unremarkable so far and I find the controls annoyingly floaty. The spin/roll lacks a definitive end and you can't chain/buffer it easily like DKC so it's a bit annoying to roll through multiple enemies.
I'm sure I'll get used to it, but I do wish the controls were a bit crisper. There's too much acceleration in the movement.
Still early on though. Hopefully it grows on me.
I just tap the whole time adjusting the rate of tapping to go up and down. That pretty much eliminates having to deal the barrel's momentum as well. You never actually have to drastically change your height in a short amount of time. The Rocket Barrel levels are kind of annoying :( Any tips on how to better control the barrel?

The first island is definitely the weakest. It gets way better as you go on. The 3rd and 5th islands are especially great.
As for the roll, it's actually the opposite of what you're describing. The roll in the original DKC games would extend with each enemy you hit, so you could just roll through a batch of enemies easily. The Tropical Freeze roll only goes so far, so you need to learn its distance and be careful to not fall into the trap of rolling to a stop right in front of an enemy. As a rule of thumb, I'd try to avoid rolling at a group of more than 2 enemies unless they're very clustered, and if you do, jump out of the roll at the end so the third enemy in the pack won't hit you. Also, you can extend your roll indefinitely by tapping the button as long as you have a partner character (or are playing as Funky).
Also, try roll-jumping a lot. You have a lot more air control than you may expect when doing it, so once you get it down you can fling yourself around pretty wildly and still come to a stop when you need to.
I definitely hope it manages to grow on you. There's some great stuff here if you can wrap your head around the physics!
World 1 is a pretty safe and unchallenging world for the most part, but even then the design of each is still chock full of unique assets and meticulously rooted in the environment. So it's still fun on an observational level imo.
You can roll immediately after you start moving for instant momentum (either by jump canceling it with DK solo to launch him like a canonball, or rolling infinitely with a partner).
Thanks for the advice. I definitely need to get into the jump rolling groove. That'll help.
I do wish that the roll ending animation had some highly visible tell, but I guess I'll learn to judge its distance.
playing this for the first time and ur telling me there's gonna be a level better than sawmill thrill?

I tried Funky Mode last night and just couldn't do it. It's a great mode for certain players, but it was simply too easy for me. Not only do his movement options completely break the difficulty of the stages, he has FIVE hearts. He'd probably be great for a hard mode playthrough, but I'm not finishing the game again in this mode to unlock it.
Most certainly.
Though that level is indeed excellent. The best in its world/island.
world 4 is just horrible. Did they get an intern to design those levels?
So is there anywhere to purchase this soundtrack? I tried Amazon, iTunes etc. and it doesn't seem to exist.
It honestly feels like two different games, and I enjoy playing them both.I tried Funky Mode last night and just couldn't do it. According to David Wise it's his favorite thing he's ever composed.
did you guys just fly thru every stage not worrying about letters and puzzles and complete the game or try to 100% as you go

When I learned that puzzle pieces are meaningless junk, I stopped worrying about them and only went after KONG instead since that provides meaningful extra content.did you guys just fly thru every stage not worrying about letters and puzzles and complete the game or try to 100% as you go
No wonder. I dedicated nearly a full minute of my review to showcasing that one song--It's incredible.
Do you remember where he mentioned that btw?
For every game, I just concentrate on making it to the end the first time through. I only go back and 100% the game if I enjoyed it enough (like in the case of TF.)did you guys just fly thru every stage not worrying about letters and puzzles and complete the game or try to 100% as you go
