Which makes me wonder, what does the Confederacy actually think Thanos is doing on Earth? One of his random cullings?

Yeah, they probably know that he's been going around to planets and slaughtering half their populations, so they figure he's going to do the same to Earth. Maybe they think he's going to kill a lot of the useful superpowered people there (inhumans) so they're trying to collect some before that happens because they use them for fun and profit, as we've seen. It doesn't seem like anyone's had an inkling of what his end game is except
Gamora and, at the very end, the Avengers.

It'll be interesting when Daisy realizes her centipede/mom juice plan, will probably come down to forcing it onto Coulson, who has seemingly reached acceptance of his fate. Whether her run in with Dr. Fitz is remembered or not.

Obviously Coulson might jump at something that saves him, but I can't see it being the John Garrett route.
Coulson seemed to be pretty at peace with dying this time.

Daisy's about to get mind-fucked though, so that's gonna change the whole game.

It's hard to say. In the movie everyone knows he's going for the stones, but only after they'd been informed by
Thor and Banner

Yes, you normally let your long-running season-long shows know if they're being renewed by mid-season because the cast/crew need to book auditions and other gigs if the show's not coming back.

Cancelling on short notice is very rare.

Anyway, make of this what you will (contains vague spoilers for the next episode, but spoilers nonetheless)

Finally, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 5×21 clarifies the series' take on the events of Avengers: Infinity War, and that is basically "Let's take it slow." While Earth's Actual Mightiest Heroes (not you, Talbot) cope with chaos around the galaxy, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. adopts a more realistic approach to the events back on Earth. Extraterrestrial invasions of New York and terrifying portents of doom are, after all, not exactly unusual in the New Normal of the MCU. "The Force of Gravity" plays with that idea, adding some perspective to the film's colossal events… and teasing greater movements still to come.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 5×21 is a funny beast on the romance front. The storm-tossed Mack and Elena share a truly beautiful and emotionally crystalizing moment,

RIP (for S6 anyway) Mack

So who all turning into dust from the show?
Mack based on Future Yo-Yo's dialogue. Deke, based on the BTTF reference.

Fitzsimmons, YoYo, and May are safe, they're in the Time Loop flashbacks post-snap.

edit: Mockingbird probably going to be dusted off-screen so they can bring Hunter in without her due to Palicki's scheduling issues.

Based on that clip, it's still before the third act of Infinity War, if not leading up to it.

My guess is that the finale is going to end up being incredibly tense for most fans as we wait for the episode to line up with the very end of Infinity War.

I don't think this will happen in multiple respects, but it would be pretty funny if the show gets cancelled and it ends on a never-to-be-resolved cliffhanger of
half the cast disintegrating

"City Crippled by Damage"....right...and Talbot talking about taking on those invaders....I think it's pretty clear that the writers for AoS didn't have access to what would happen in IW. They knew Thanos was coming, and shit would go down, and that was about it. The reaction to the events in IW will be as vague as that chyron.

Never mind that

Wakanda is directly shown to be able to detect anything entering Earth's atmosphere almost immediately. Given they should already be on guard due to the earlier arrival of the Q-ships they should have been the first people to respond to the Confederacy ship, before it could even reach the lighthouse.

The only question I have is the order of events while Daisy was away; her meeting with that smuggler dude (the first clear signal of when this season is taking place in relation to the movie) clearly took place at night, while the Confederacy seemed to invade in daylight.

I agree based on that one clip, at least. Tonight's episode airs one week after the original release date for Infinity War, so if the showrunners actually had meaningful advance access to the film, you'd think this episode would make that clear.

But I haven't seen the actual episode, and there's still one more to go after this, so... we'll see.

Infinity War spoilers ahoy

So Infinity War basically takes place over about 24 hours.

It's between 1 and 2 p.m. when New York City is attacked by a couple Children of Thanos and Iron Man, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange fight back. All three of them hitch a ride on the alien space ship — well, involuntarily, when it comes to Strange. Most of Agents of Shield's 19th episode happens during this time.

That evening, Scarlet Witch and Vision are attacked in Scotland by the Children of Thanos, and Captain America, Black Widow and Falcon save them. During this time, in AoS's 19th episode, we see Daisy meet with the smuggler and they reference what happened in New York earlier that day.

AoS's 20th episode then takes place late that night or in the very early morning hours, with Coulson and Talbot going up to the Confederacy's ship and taking it over.

The next morning, Captain America with friends in tow show up at Avengers HQ to meet with War Machine and come up with a plan. Meanwhile, we see that clip from AoS's 21st episode with Talbot visiting his family and the TV news mentions that "the city" (New York, I suppose) is crippled. Maybe they just meant a particular borough of the city.

Later that day, probably in the early afternoon, Captain America and friends go to Wakanda. Within a couple hours probably, they mobilize the Wakandan army to take up defensive positions and Shuri begins to operate on Vision's Infinity Stone. Then the Children of Thanos and their army attack, followed of course by Thanos himself.

See? The timeline is a snap.

Nah, they had access to the important details. It's very clear that they are building up to the finale.

I think it makes sense for Talbot to speak in simple terms ("those invaders") to his young child. A soldier about to leave for a tour of duty probably isn't going to tell his little kid that he's going to fight Sunni jihadists or whatever, he'd say he's going to go fight some bad guys. It would be cringy if Talbot busted out proper alien names on his kid — it would feel like an out-of-place namedrop to the audience.

Dialogue suggests it was caused by Talbot/Graviton.

Speaking of the future, should the show be picked up for a sixth season — and we both agree it should — what could fans expect from the Marvel universe show post-Avengers: Infinity War? While the show has already alluded to the events surrounding the mega-flick and Thanos, Jeff teases a possible "overlap" with the movies, should another season happen. "I will say that there definitely are allusions, but I don't know where … I think that it is something that would be gotten into more next season."

Wait, are the upfronts next week?

Oh man, the upfronts are next week!

Will that one ABC Marvel comedy finally surface?

Damage Control? That's been dead for a long time. Never even got an actual pilot order.

Or maybe you mean New Warriors, about which there's been no news since Freeform declined to pick it up last year. If there's no news on that from the upfronts next week, it's probably dead too.

Nah, I was talking about one of the two unnamed Marvel shows on ABC in pre production. One was by a big name author of a show or something and the other was slated to be a comedy. These were separate from Damage Control which never got off the ground at all.

Yeah, ABC upfront is next week on Tuesday. The renewal and cancellation news, though, probably will drop this afternoon.

Hold onto your butts.

Damage Control is the only Marvel comedy developed for ABC to date, at least as far as I know. The other one you're probably thinking of is John Ridley's show, which is most likely dead as well due to how long has elapsed since it was announced.

In my mind, Shield is the kinda show they won't cancel just like that, they will instead announce the last season as the final season (and probably give it a shorter run). So get ready for "The 6th and Final Season"

To be honest, I have no prob with it ending. My wish was for it to reach Infinity War, and I was thinking about that back in S2, so happy we got this far.
