Thank you for being a voice of reason. Are people attached to the FZero IP or just the gameplay? Because if it has the gameplay of FZero with the superior IP of Star Fox I don't see what the hell the problem is here.
Stealth likes to pretend to be a player but ultimately he's never had a leak that wasn't from somewhere else. He usually just "confirms" what others have said.

I think it isn't what Retro should do. I think they should do a third DKC game. It doesn't really matter if this game turns out well or not, people should be allowed to be disappointed and not have to be mocked for it.
Anyone writing this off as "not ambitious" is basically saying the same thing as "lazy devs" and should be considered lazy shit posting.
This sounds great. Finally something new and having them copy the DKR template is a good idea. Maybe something can finally beat Sonic RT.
It's a racing game. That's more than enough to know when you know the genre. You're constricted with racing. And it's a spinoff title to a damn franchise that doesn't have any idea what it wants to be.
For me, the only thing that makes this likely is the fact that Nintendo(Miyamoto iirc) stated something to the effects of: 'A new F-zero would require all-new ideas in order to compel them to pursue it.' A StarFox racer would have been born out of that process.
I prefer something totally new from Retro Studios, but if anyone could make a spinoff like that work, it's Retro!

As long as I've seen them online through gaf/usgamer/Twitter etc they tend to just post fanboy nonsense. I've never seen them as an insider tbh.

Mario+Rabbids litterally came out of nowhere. Nobody was speculating on what that studio was doing nor even a collab. There's no 4 years build up of anticipation. I mean, it's not hard to understand, this argument is not even comparable.
I don't remember Tropical Freeze, at least not when it first released on wii U, wanna know why? That platform was loaded to the brink with platformers by the time DK:TP was out, no matter how good the game was, there's a reason it flopped.
The only one i'll give you is Metroid prime, but i was not one of those down on the game back then. But i could understand that a studio with 0 experience to handle MP was giving doubts, don't act like your optimism would be bullet proof against at least thinking how it'll go down.

Not just GX. X, which I love, sold less than 400k in the US and less than 100k in Japan. The OG F-Zero did decently but I feel that helped by being a launch title.

I have a deep love for Star Fox, despite the direction the series went in. I enjoyed Adventures for what it was. I gave Zero a chance.
But god damn, if we don't get an F-Zero but we get Star Fox Racing, that will feel a bit disheartening.

The Star Fox series probably has more appeal for the larger market than the F-Zero series at this point.
Saying F-Zero was never good is actually just the most incredible lie. F-Zero GX is one of the finest arcade racing games ever made.

Well a lot of what he was saying, about the hub world, the story, the boss battles, comes directly from the Eurogamer article. He just makes it sound like it's his own information.
The ONLY way this would work is if this race had huge stakes and was non-traditional. Sort of like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run. Where it's a "race", but technically that's just a pretense for a large scale adventure
I nearly never do that, but you'd have to explain to me how Star Fox keeps getting so many chances and big developers on it despite getting failure after failure.

Obviously my comment was from a fan perspective. As a dev I'm happy as long as Retro remains profitable.
Brining the apes to space would be pretty funny and I'd be all for it if it bolstered the playable character variety.
I wish we had more hype for the idea of a Nintendo racing game with story progression. Mario Kart 8 is one of my favorite racing games of all time, but it kills me that there's nothing to do besides random Grand Prix sets.
I don;t think people are talking quality wise but rather reception wise. I'm sure the game will be great, but if it's not what people want then the reception will probably get nasty from both Star Fox and F-Zero fans.

That's more than enough info to get an initial judge on it. If people don't like the idea, they don't like the idea. And they shouldn't be made fun of for it.
I think it's already been semi-confirmed that David Wise is composing for Retro's next game, whatever it may be.
Again, there is a difference between what you are saying (i.e. a situation I have never said I have any issue with) and people who are violently against the very idea of this game because it doesn't meet their notions of what Retro should do.
My friend, the point of those arguments is to demonstrate that jumping the gun on judging a game before we actually properly know what the game is is a terrible idea.
