Sucks it got cancelled though it's not entirely surprising with the ratings it was pulling vs. the cost of the show. Alcon seems super interested in shopping it out, so hopefully it gets picked up by someone. Too good of a show to go to an early grave like this.

Just caught up on the most recent 3 episodes. All three were good, but holy shoot at the most recent one. Went 0 to 100 in a damn microsecond. I'm still reeling from it, and really looking forward to next episode.

:(

The SyFy curse strikes again. Hoping for a pickup by a publisher with more sense. That said, the streaming companies are probably the only place a hard sci-fi show will actually find its audience.

Yeah, I agree I was invested in them really quickly. Souther's crew backing him and watching the Hammurabi captain put all the pieces together while also dealing with the doubts of her officer (can't think of his name at the moment) was so good.

And then everything that happened with the ship standoffs was amazing along with that ending.

The only bad thing about that episode was that it ended and I have to wait a week to watch the next one. Supremely great stuff.
Yeah, damn the wait's going to feel long until next Wednesday.

Edit:
This episode was madness.

p.s. SyFy is trash.

This. Damn, didn't even see this until just now, dammit SyFy.

I think SyFy did quite a lot actually. The rantings for this show have always been extremely low, they could very well have cancelled it after the first season, or after the second that the rantings were worse.

Three seasons is more than I could ask for, but way less than I want. Hopefully Netflix or someone else picks it up.

The last episode was amazing, so tense!

Really hope that somebody picks this up but I'm not holding out much hope tbh :( At least we got three great seasons!

People requesting the show to be acquired by Amazon are actually getting pretty quick email responses by customer service:

You can send them an email via this auto-form here: https://studios.amazon.com/contact-us

Alcon seems to value the series as their prestige project due to the great critical reviews it receives, so they have that on their side. Hopefully their revenue from digital and blu-ray purchases also look good. Might increase their chances of finding a new distributor.

Finally caught up to S3. Finished S2 last night. It was so much better than S1 (although the whole Donnager space battle/boarding/escape sequence is still my favorite of the show), the show and pacing improved so much now that all the pieces were in place and the writers could move past exposition and necessary world-building. I particularly loved how well the show uses its hard sci-fi aspects to inform its action scenes; the ship maneuvering and battles here are thrilling in a way that Star Wars or a lot of other space battles aren't. Like when they outmaneuvering the stealth ship and the G-forces adding more tension to the action

Looking forward to seeing more of Gunny in S3, I really liked her plotline in S2 and how the Martian plot thread brought all the various storylines together

Yo, that Razorback chase/space battle/gravity orientation set-piece in IFF was amazing. I can't think of any other sci-fi/space show or movie that comes close to hard sci-fi space battles and acknowledging the various effects of gravity like The Expanse does

Things you can do are listed in the thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheExpanse/comments/8iq1a0/renewal_megathread_earthers_martians_belters_we/

Basically contact Amazon, tweet at Amazon Studio and Jeff Bezos, sign the petition, buy the Blue-Ray discs, etc.

And then there's the people raising money to fly an airplane over Amazon for a few hours:

I submitted to Amazon Studios and got a response. Do your part, people!

Now I'm all caught up and have to wait for weekly episodes ;_;

This show just gets better and better with each season. Now back to rewatching S1 again now that I know all the lingo and who/what/where in this show

Hahah oh my god, they just successfully funded enough money to fly that airplane for a few hours with "Save The Expanse" banner attached behind it, outside Amazon HQ at Los Angeles. That's pretty good.

The banner- plane will be flying tomorrow 12-2 and again 5-7 over Los Angeles!

Is this more or less crazy than Jericho fans sending 20 tons of peanuts to CBS execs?

I'm rewatching S1 (it's much easier to follow now and is paced better than I remembered) and I didn't realize the first time that the distance for a "close quarters" battle is still a long enough distance that railguns are being used

Decided to start reading the books, currently early in Leviathan Wakes and the show really did a great job adapting the book to screen. The only real outlier is how much more changed Belters look in the books versus the show, like Naomi for example. The scene in the pilot with the Belter being tortured is the only one I recall that really displayed the physical changes so apparently

anyone know how soon the Amazon Prime video drops the new episodes? I bought the season a couple days ago, and just wondering when it comes out.

For Season 3? They are still airing on SyFy so they'll drop the same day they air I believe.

BTW, anyone can sign up for a free YouTubeTV or Hulu Trial to watch the current Season 3 episode, and Nielsen does count those ratings...

Is Hulu working for EU territories? I know YouTube doesn't but I'd like to contribute for sure.

Isn't the problem with live ratings that it only matters if you're a Nielsen family?
YouTubeTV and Hulu now count for Nielsen. YTV has a 7 day trial.

This is kind of Good News I suppose, but honestly, this show should be on streaming first. Not dependent on live ratings and traditional advertisers. We could end up in the same place next year.

I have no idea where DVR numbers come from. That seems like something service providers could pull info off of. Really, in the modern world of digital information, I don't know why the main "viewership" numbers are still coming off of polling-type strategies, like Nielsen ratings. You telling me that AT&T can't see that DirectTV account #285710387510847 is watching The Expanse, The Big Bang Theory and the Adam & Eve network?

I think the reason for not substantially changing it up is a fear that "true" counts would result in a net loss of "viewers" on paper.

I'll watch live on Sling, which I have. I usually don't because I bought the season on Amazon but what the hell, can't hurt to watch twice.

There is a coordinated fan effort tonight to boost the live viewing ratings of the new episode which airs at 9 PM / 8 PM Central. You can also DVR it and then watch it within first three days' and it'll be counted. Watching live and then DVRing it later counts twice!

If you don't have a nielsen cable box, then please consider signing up for a free 7-day-trial on Hulu Live or Youtube TV and watch the episode tonight live. Or leave the TV/computer streaming on. It'll be counted in the ratings!
