Was finally able to watch the Timeless season finalte, dear god give me a fucking answer already!

Watched the ABC trailers, there is nothing that seems interesting or even entertaining. I'll probably try The Rookie just for Nathan Fillian, but I won't be getting the scene I want so I probably won't continue it. Grand Hotel gave me some Hotel Babylon vibes, only doesn't seem as good.

The petition that is only around 3 days old already has well over 50,000 signatures and that's for a show that doesn't even exist on a low ratings network. It's competing well with established shows on bigger neteorks that were canceled and now have petitions.

As someone who has follow The CW, Supernatural and The Wayward Sisters movement, the hype and fan love is real. Would have performed well for the CW.

Personally I don't want another show to have to watch to keep up on the Supernatural lore.

I want to see Kenya Barris on a platform that will let him get "real".

*rolleyes*. Yes. I'm in the TV thread. I know what Black-ish is. My friend Dawn called her daughter "grown" at 18 and it just irks me. For instance. Grown Up, maybe. Grown isn't a description. Now get off my lawn.
That's actually what the show is about lol.

I just rolled my eyes HARD at a joke 20 seconds into the These Kids Are Alright trailer.

That's good to see. Was there serious competition on their debut night? Early release of the episodes? That seems like a huge ratings jump.

None that I can think of, although some other shows also had really low ratings last week (Into the Badlands) and bounced back this week. The premiere episodes weren't available for free prior to their airings, but they did release them online free a few days after, so that might've helped build up word of mouth.

The Fix is basically "What if OJ Simpson killed again years later and the prosecutor got a second chance to put him away" from OJ prosecutor Marcia Clark. lol

FXX isn't the Simpsons rerun channel (maybe it was like 3 years ago). It's the premium comedy channel, it has Archer, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and You're the Worst (also used to run The League here).

FXX is, as a destination for original scripted series, a failed experiment. FX wouldn't even commit to it.

So far, I haven't really seen any new stuff that interests me. Guess I'll just have to wait for next year for those new short seasons, and thrn finally get to binge some stuff I'm behind on that need to start.

I guess that works for me.

They still moved all of their comedy shows to it a couple years ago and you can still only find new episodes of those comedy shows on that channel.

It's much better than just being a rerun channel.
But it's useless when you could easily fit everything unto FX instead. 3 original shows (and that's all it has, 3) that all started on FX does not make a channel.

EDIT: ABC saying consumers need better advertisements and needs to "add the advertisers within the shows", whatever that means.

Disney has a new ad solution.
So we making a return to the days of "BLUE NISSAN VERSA"?
It says a lot about the show, which in turn peaks or wanes my interest.

For instance:

Selfie
I Ship It

etc. anything with a current annoying cultural or buzz word in it.
You missed out then, because Selfie was great.

Except for Louie. And Atlanta, Baskets, Better Things, Married, or Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. And none of their upcoming comedies are slated for FXX.

Like, Archer (which is unwatchable at this point) only has one season left and You're the Worst is ending this year. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved It's Always Sunny back to FX by the middle of next year and called it a day.

Ranking:
1. Whiskey Cavalier
2. A Million Little Things
3. The Rookie
4. The Fix
5. Grand Hotel
6. Single Parents
7. The Kids' Are Alright

Without a doubt, Whiskey Cavalier looks like the best one of the lot, and the rest look middling.

"Grand Hotel" feels like yet another boring soap opera that might live to a Season 2, "The Rookie" looks competent but we'll see how quickly it'll decline into rote procedural status. "The Fix" looks interesting, but it literally is Marcia Clark fan fiction. The two comedy pilots just looked abysmal with "The Kids Are Alright" looking like a Goldbergs' rip-off.

I'm curious when and where ABC will schedule their mid-season shows The Fix, Grand Hotel, Whiskey Cavalier, and Schooled (Goldbergs spinoff).

NETFLIX IS GOING TO RESCUE THAT CULT SCI-FI SHOW THAT YOU LIKED SO MUCH

...just kidding. They're considering rescuing Designated Survivor for some reason

Because nothing says "healthy show" like being on its fifth showrunner, or to put it differently:

Whiskey Cavalier seems promising, which is more than I can say about the vast majority of this new class of Network shows. Lauren Cohan chose wisely I guess.

Doesn't Designated Survivor do extremely well for Netflix internationally? That could be why they're looking at picking it up.

ABC upfront trailers.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDe0CguuqcMDC40SQ9PZk8lMr7d0DgmRk

  • A Million Little Things
  • The Rookie
  • Single Parents
  • The Kids Are Alright
  • Grand Hotel
  • Whiskey Cavalier
  • The Fix

A Million Little Things - I didn't hate this. Seemed earnest enough and a bit This Is Us-y. I could see it working.

The Rookie - Looks like a competent Castle replacement?

Single Parents - Again, this didn't look too bad? Some of the humor landed, some of it didn't. At any rate, it looks like an on-brand comedy that will fit in well with the rest of their lineup. And like a typical ABC comedy, I'm sure it will be solid but inessential.

The Kids Are Alright - I actually liked this? Definitely the best looking comedy of the upfronts. I think it has a lot of potential.

Grand Hotel = Magic City + Sexy ABC Nighttime Soap.

Whiskey Cavalier - Generic he's a/she's a procedural. Pass.

The Fix -
The Fix is basically "What if OJ Simpson killed again years later and the prosecutor got a second chance to put him away" from OJ prosecutor Marcia Clark. lol

Yup lol. Overall it looked like your average broadcast courtroom/investigative drama, I guess. Not sure how they make a recurring series of it though - seems better suited for a mini-series.

Has anyone heard of a Hulu series called Into the Darkness that's coming out in the fall? Mainly asking because they're filming in my apartment building this week I just want to know what it is!

Into the Dark. It's their horror anthology show (stand alone, "feature length" episodes) they are doing with Blumhouse.

Cas Anvar (Alex on The Expanse) is implying that SyFy is still a part of the conversation. Says to watch live as well as on DVR tomorrow and to "be nice" to SyFy.

Do they have any political show at all?
Yes. But weirdly it doesn't have a lead actor

Was not expecting Designated Survivor to potentially get saved. I enjoy the show, but I don't really know how I feel. I had accepted that it was done and gotten excited about the possibility of getting an actual conclusion to Jack Bauer's story lol

Even though I watch Designated Survivor, I was kinda happy it was cancelled so that Kiefer can do other things lol. The show has some great highs but generally is overwhelmingly "meh".

It was a push for me to get past the episode of New Girl from last week. I'll watch this off the DVR eventually.

The nicest thing i can say about the ABC trailers is that i would watch single parents on the plane. And you know damn well the airlines are tripping over themselves to syndicate it.

I'm batting 0 right now on shows I'm interested in, so Designated Survivor coming back would be amazing.

.... especially if president Jack Bauer last longer than Trump
