Could be something wrong with their website. I have GCU and the prices are showing full price on the website but if you add a game to cart, it shows the discounted price.

Same for me. And it's because we're already members and our subscription will be honored until it expires. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Best Buy is ending this program though.

Edit: Looks like I'm wrong.

Truly the end of an era. GCu was the only reason I'd ever go to Best Buy. This will drastically change what games I purchase day one.

Going to go to Best Buy tomorrow and see if I can renew. Hopefully it's Sunday they're pulling the plug and not immediately.

Yea, where are we getting GCU is ending? Sounds like they are changing how to buy/renew GCU. This is actually how GCU was for the first few years when you had to go in store to buy or activate it anyway.

It comes from people saying it's being pulled in the physical stores as well and people are no longer allowed to sign up there. I'm about to go to a couple local stores to confirm this, but multiple reports have said they have been denied in store.

OP title doesn't even make sense in the beginning.
Literally worst than clickbaiting.

The tweet states that BB stops online activation because gamers complain too much that it isn't fast enough, and telling buyers to go in-store for immediately activation.

Yeah...I have no clue how please go in-store to buy/renew=cancel of GCU.

How do you report bad thread title because no one is reading the tweet at all?
Except apparently you can't even renew in-store anymore judging by the newer tweets.

Can a mod fix the title? Op got it completely wrong.

You

This. OP got it completely wrong and is causing undue panic. Best Buy is only stopping GCU online activation. Which is a good thing.

It was a mess online and half the time you'd have to talk to someone in store to get it fixed.
How is that a good thing? I didn't have problems and I live nowhere near a Best Buy.

Looks like they're done selling new subs in store as well.

I see. That should be added to OP cause that's not mentions unless I totally missed something.

Please keep us posted on what you find out. If that's the case I guess I'll go back to Amazon and I guess GameStop may have a chance to rebound lol.

I really don't want to make the trip to my store, it's not really close, but I might to extend my membership. Right now, mine expires on December 28th.

Can BestBuy legally cancel already-existing subscriptions?

Edit: Looks like they aren't anyway, I should read the whole thread first <_<

I don't know if people are purposely being ignorant or not but the very first line in the thread is one sign. That the prices are no longer showing until added to the cart.

Sign two is that they limited activation by making it only available in store. Yes it was glitchy activating on the website but that is not the only thing happening here.

Sign three is that the Cheap Ass Gamer Twitter account that originally posted the first tweet in the OP is posting subsequent tweets saying it could be dead.

It's also not clickbait. The title clearly reads "may be ending" not "GCU is over because it's no longer available for purchase online" so yeah.

GCU is what has kept me preordering games and buying physical, even when I already have too many games to play. With it gone (and Amazon's 20% that only exists to counter it), I might as well just wait the 3-6 months until any given game can be had for under $20.

This sucks.

First they close my local GameStop (10 minute walk from home), now this shit. Fuck this if they think I'm going digital. I'll get my games from local pawnshops if it comes down to it.

I mean, I have mine at least through 2019 but still... this really sucks. I was planning on renewing for sure. Guess I will have to go back to Amazon once my GCU officially expires.

This stinks, I use GCU all the time. Well at least I have Amazon Prime where I could at least get the 20% off new games. Too bad they do not have 20% off collectors editions.

Add posts #110 and #111 to your OP.

That is damn near heart breaking. I bought so many more games because of it and I constantly shilled for the program to anyone who would listen. I was going to renew this weekend too... Thankfully I still have a little time left. Time to live it up I guess.

By the way, this pretty much ensures Amazon US will kill their 20% pre-order discount soon. They no longer have any incentive to keep it going.

Sucks but was it sustainable lolol? I hope it isn't true but if so I'm not shocked. I think I've bought like 99% of my games from them in the last 4 or 5 years. The discount stacking, $10 pre-order bonuses and bonus trade values blows other all competitors out the water. All good things come to an end...

I only shop at Best Buy because of this plus the $10 certificates and 5% back on rewards with their CC.

I'll probably stop shopping at BB after this is over. I would go all digital but fuck Comcast and their data caps. Guess it's just Amazon for me.

That blows.

I have it until March 2019 so at least I'll get to enjoy all the Fall games. Hope KH3 is a Christmas release...

Well this blows, I saved so much money over the years with GCU...

I wonder if they'll still honor those with subs, mine is good until the end of 2019.
