Proving it was the little show that could, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has successfully concluded its fifth season and is renewed for a sixth, premiering in Summer 2019. In the process, through superior pacing and movie quality visual effects, it overcame a rough start with an uneven airing schedule and a holding pattern in the name of movie continuity (#itsallconnected) to become the best comic book-based series broadcast TV has ever seen. With a year to go, it's a great time to fill the gap by revisiting the long journey these characters have taken in the last five years:
- Coulson: Ready for a new adventure, unaware of the secrets behind his survival following his encounter with Loki
- Ward: The ace agent with excessive childhood trauma
- Skye: An orphan trying to find her identity and place in the world
- Fitz: Guy with an accent
- Simmons: Girl with an accent
- May: The bus driver who holds the secret to eternal youth
- This thread is for discussion of the series, by people watching the series. Do not derail the thread with commentary unrelated to the plot of the show.
- As we welcome new viewers as well as long time series fans, do not openly discuss events that happen beyond episodes we have not yet watched. Any such discussion should either fall in clearly marked spoiler tags, or better, posted in the Season 5 OT.
- It's a magical place.
The absolute best place to watch is on Netflix, where Seasons 1-4 are available in many regions. (Season 5 will be available on Netflix on Sunday, June 17, 2018.) The show is also available for purchase on many streaming services such as Google Play or Amazon Video. If you prefer physical media, unfortunately not all seasons are available in all regions, but you should be able to obtain at least seasons 1 and 2 on Blu-Ray or DVD wherever you are.
Unfortunately, it seems not all countries have the above options. If there are any avenues I missed, please let us know!
The world turns against S.H.I.E.L.D. when HYDRA impersonates them to attack The United Nations, and an unexpected enemy leads the charge to bring about their downfall.
The team discovers murder victims with the alien glyphs on them that Coulson's been etching. All of Coulson's secrets and lies come to a head.
All episode preview images and descriptions are shamelessly stolen from the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki. Full credit to starting the group watch idea goes to BrokenFiction and Danthrax. I'm just the messenger.
