From 'quake area to big OH.
I forgot about the IR blaster to take care of my TV.

And I'll have to go back to Unity at some point and complete the free dlc. I do feel like the game got a bad wrap due to technical problems.

Mine just shut off while playing Wildlands. Unplugged it and plugged it back in and it turned on fine, but still not cool.

Well I don't really play multiplayer games, I'm just done with them these days. I can't compete, and don't find it fun. If I was ever going to check out any aspect of BF2, it would just be the single player.

I really need to stop taking Giantbomb's word on things...They are getting crouchy in their old age or something ,because I keep hearing how great Halo 5 is from here, and DF, yet GB said on their stream how flat it looked, and it didn't look much better on the X.

Totally agree. I'm still a subscriber but for me Ryan was an essential part of the balance of GB. Too often now Jeff's opinion seems to be GB's opinion. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a lot of Jeff's stuff but there isn't a strong enough character on staff now to balance him.

So does Dolby Atmos simulate surround sound in non-Atmos games as well? If I'm using a optical to MixAmp to HD598, will it improve anything?

Which one? All this research is killing me and the original 4K TV I bought a couple of years back doesn't even have HDR...advice welcome!

www.rtings.com should be your go-to resource. You can sort by price to see the best recommendations in each price tier.

In the budget tier, TCL makes great models.

Mid tier, Sony is probably your best bet. You can't go wrong with an X900E.

In the high end, Sony and LG are the best choices.

After a ton of research, I went with a 65" Sony X930E. Compared to the X900E, it has better local dimming, brightness, and contrast. Some will find the premium over the X900E isn't worth it, but I don't regret my purchase in the least. My only complaint is that the local dimming is merely 'OK' - you'll see a lot of halos around bright objects when isolated by black negative space. Otherwise, it's a fantastic set with amazing brightness (such that SDR content looks fantastic), superb motion handling and upscaling (1080p looks great), and good input lag for 4k content.

I strongly considered an LG OLED, but was concerned with image retention, and moreso was put off by the firmware updates reducing HDR game mode brightness.

Hadn't thought about doing that. How does Atmos compare to the Dolby processing on the MixAmp?
I'm no audiophile, the only thing I noticed is that the "vertical sounds" were all on my plane when I did the Insect Spatial Audio demo and I forgot to switch it off.
I think I had to turn it up a little bit though, seems like with the mixamp's Dolby processor on it's just a little bit louder.

Anyone looking for a media remote, the inteset universal one on Amazon is amazing. The IR is leagues better than the official remote, and is 10x better than the included Sony remote with my x800d, it's like a having a whole new tv how responsive it is.

Built in Xbox, Apple TV, Roku support.

Anyone try Sunset Overdrive yet? Been thinking of trying it again - loved that game (it was my Jet Set Radio fix).

Also, I had a moment in Forza 7 where I thought I was watching racing on TV.

Insane.

Doesn't YUV only apply when HDR kicks in due to the bandwith not good enough on current HDMI specs to run HDR in RGB? Technically YUV422 should be the better option over 420 but I remember having more banding on my old Samsung with 422.

I thought it did. I assumed toggling the option on would enabled YUV422 in HDR, instead of YUV420. Could be wrong though.

This is the best place to ask, I guess, even though it's not exactly X exclusive: Has anyone else noticed My Games & Apps being 'glitchy' since the last core update? Store keeps wanting to update, but a) it's not an app and b) it downloads at hundreds of kilobytes per second but never shows a full file size or seems to actually make any progress. Also, switching to My Games & Apps doesn't always show me the proper progress of a download. When I scroll down to the queue, it sometimes jumps from what it says to the actual number.

Also, downloads seem to stall, then start again.

I played it earlier today. I didn't notice any difference. It's still a buttload of fun.

DLC Spoilers I think (It's been so long since I last played it, I had no idea where I was and what I was doing) - http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/chinohormann/video/39057349

Concerning her lack of pants
It was required for the mission and they dressed me up like this "robot" when I started it. I didn't take her pants off or anything.

Has anyone had any issues with their X reading your external hard drive when you connect it to the front USB port?
Not for me, they all seem to work fine just the same in my experience.

I did have an external die on me which really sucks though.

Playing battlefield 1 really surprised me, the fact that it is unpatched and from what i remember when i played it on the OG One and pro, it looks great and doesn't make me miss my pro in the least bit. Also Battlefront 2 is insane.

Has MS mentioned anything about day 1 sales?? Or are they sticking to their line of not releasing hardware numbers even if they are positive?
I know there was a "pre order" statement, but thought there may have been a follow up statement. Or did i miss it?

Anyone using the tcl p607 with the x? Is it awesome?
I've only played through Halo 5 but it does look pretty dang phenomenal. There is an issue though at the moment where the tcl is clipping whites and crushing blacks. Could be X related but others are not experiencing it. I personally think it's related to the lack of hdmi black level setting on the tcl. Regardless, it looks great!

Anyone here got an LG? What HDR mode do you use, vivid, bright, standard game etc?

Unless you want the higher input lag then the other picture settings are find, but Game is the only one with the low input lag. I have a 2017 LG and have the dynamic contrast to low to engage the active HDR. But strictly stick to Game mode as I find the other modes the input lag is a bit too high.

Has anyone tried Assetto Corsa yet? I was eyeing it at the Store today, but wanted to get some input to see how it runs on the "X". I know it is not patched and most likely wont. Just love racing games. I have not tried my copy of Pcars 2, but I heard the "X" enhancements are not that great and the game does not run all that great. Still the best console version, but I hear there is still nasty screen tearing and not a consistent 60fps.

Anyone here got an LG? What HDR mode do you use, vivid, bright, standard game etc?

LG LCD owner here. After a lot of fiddling and calibrating since the summer I use the following for HDR Gaming:

HDR Game Mode
Backlight 100 (default)
Contrast 100 (default)
Brightness 50 (default)
Colour: 55
Colour Temp W45 (close to Warm2 setting)
Colour Gamut Wide (should be Normal* on the LG TV's for HDR content, however Game mode is undersaturated so Wide here fixes that)
Local Dimming Low
Dynamic Contrast High (I'd never use this setting in the other HDR modes. However in HDR Game this seems to bring the dark end of the curve up to the same level as HDR Standard, without clipping highlights)

Essentially all these settings above give an image very close to HDR Standard, yet with better highlight protection and lower input lag.

Then set the HDR settings within each game to taste.

*Colour Gamut Normal v Wide has caused many users of LG TVs confusion. I believe they've now renamed this setting on newer sets. Essentially when you kick into UHD HDR "normal" is the normal wide colour gamut. And "wide" is wider than that. So the actual correct setting for wide colour gamut in HDR is "normal". Sheesh LG.

Edit: Changed the colour setting above to 55 to reflect what my TV was set to.

Correct YCC422 should be selected when running games in 4K HDR. I wish the X would only turn on 422 when games switch to HDR like the PS4 does.

Battlefront 2 is a ridiculous jump from the S. The game looked blurrier than Battlefront 1 during the beta, yet now on the X it looks stunning. Too bad EA f'd it up with the loot scheme. Really hoping Gamefly ships it out so I can continue the campaign.

just frustrating that it's such a long process to fix, but glad he's putting in the work either way.

as a die-hard aesthete as well, i can't help but love how much they've focused on sexy design too.

I really feel like the X might be the turning point. After basically turning my back on the platform soon after the launch I've never been more excited about it. Phil's new position at MS combined with his recent comments about acquiring studios makes the future look very promising.

same, let's just hope he delivers on the studio front - MS really needs to get on that... BADLY.

So I have a detailed set of questions regarding the upgrade process and what will work on existing hardware vs. new hardware, and what games might need a 2nd copy to work.

The Scenario
I have an Xbox One today. I am the primary account on the system. Son #1 and Son #2 also have accounts on the system. All three of us have Gold.
When we install a game on the One, all of us can play it. When we purchase something digitally, all of us can play it.

The Upgrade
I have purchased an Xbox One X. The plan is to open it at Christmas. Son #1 (a college student) would take the X1 to college, while me and Son #2 would use the X1X at home.

Let us use two examples to for questions:
1. In the case of a disk-based game, if that game is installed on the X1 and needs to have a disk in the box to be played, and gets "transferred" to the X1X, should I assume A, the existing disk is still required to play it in the X1X for me and Son #2?; and B, a new disk is required for Son #1 to play it on the X1?

2. In the case of a digitally purchased game, if that game is transferred to the X1X, does a 2nd copy of the game need to be purchased to play it on the X1? If not, can they be played at the same time, one by Son #1 on the X1 and one by Son #2 on the X1X?

Son #1 has placed several games we already have on his Christmas wish list, on the assumption he's going to need "his own copy/license" to play them on the X1 once we "upgrade" to the X1X. If we're wrong about that, I want to change up his wish list pronto.

The other option is that I plug the stupid thing in and figure all this out before Christmas, but I'm hoping I don't need to do that.

Thanks, Xbox-Era!

So what do you guys think about the news articles that are coming out saying that the Xbox One X's are bricking after a couple of hours of use. I think I remember 2-3 people here saying that they had that issue, but haven't seen it in awhile. You think it's the media just running with it, or is this going to be a widespread issue??

Has there been a reputable site that has reported this? I don't see anything in IGN or gamespot.

Had a weird issue on my new TCL P series. I was playing Gears 4 and paused the game and went back home but the brightness was completely off and the picture was overly dark. Like something happened with the HDR settings either with the TV or the One X. The picture settings showed the HDR was off so I have no idea what was going on. Reset both the tv and Xbox and the issue hasn't happened again. Despite this, both are amazing.
