I truly hope the 2019 titles aren't just uprezzed 3DS games in that sense. I can see why they went with that here since this is supposed to be "babbys first console pokemon game" for a lot of people.

If this is just a quick stopgap so they can really impress us with the next game then I won't mind.

At the moment this feels like getting A Link Between Worlds when I was hoping for something like Breath of the Wild in terms of world design.

It's speculation or for real?
I want to play and chill at home, i'm 34... do they expect me to go with a suit around the city to try and catch pokemon?
Just, ugh....

If it's confirmed, hard pass...
You still catch Pokemon in the game, you just don't fight them first. You can also transfer Pokemon from Go however that's completely optional.

You dont need to go outside, lmao. You can play it like any normal console game at home.

Also, forgot to add.

Even if we consider 2018 as a "gap year" for VGC, like it was in 2015 with no new game between ORAS and SuMo, the situations are completely different.

What I mean is that ORAS added way more competitive Pokemon than USUM did, with the introduction of new Megas. No we will have to play for 3 years with basically the same games (USUM added only 3 Pokemon for VGC). All of that without talking about the fact that we still were on the same console after ORAS, whereas VGC 2019 will be played on 3DS more than two and a half years after the Switch release...

You're gonna get Zerora and like it!

You'll totally be able to play the game without leaving your living room.

The GO implementation and the accessory are entirely optional.

Pokemon are found in the routes like normal, its just that they're in the overworld now instead of patches of grass. You also can only catch them like Pokemon Go, ie find one and throw a ball at it, you can't battle them

No, there is no portability aspect like in Go. What he means is that they revamped catching to be like in Go where you do a real world motion to throw a ball to catch a mon,

I'll come around on it but I can't help feel underwhelmed too.

At the very least I thought they'd have made the region more three dimensional, like wider areas, rolling fields etc, but it's just flat and angular like the older games.

And I guess next year's game will also look a whole lot like this which is also disappointing.
There is the possibility that due to the game being designed with one Joycon in mind this game had to be designed with a flatter world in mind. Plus they've constantly explored having a more dynamic camera like in Gen 5 with Castelia City and the bridges and Gen 6 with Lumiose City. The Switch could provide them a way to be more 3 dimensional with world design this time around.

Has it been confirmed as to whether or not players can use their own trainers as co-op partners on a friend's file?

My girlfriend and I want to play co-op, but are getting our own copies, and I really don't want to have to play through this twice together...

I'm surprised how low some expectations are around here. I guess people just want more of the same...

Unfortunately the one aspect the controls we have heard indicates the motion controls are mandatory and despite it being the main control option in Pokemon Go you can't use the touchscreen in hand held mode. There's a chance it might be a mistranslation like with the online debacle but no one has deconfirmed forced Motion controls.

Damn. Thanks for the response, even if it wasn't the one I was hoping for. If you don't mind, can you link to a source on this? I speak Japanese so if it was in the presentation proper or a Japanese blog/site I can confirm.

If this is confirmed soon, we'll need to start looking into Joy-Con mods.

This is developed by a different team and I don't see them even having much in common with the 2019 titles.

I'm not that excited, to be honest. Depends on how much of a role Pokémon GO plays in this game (i.e. can you catch 'em all without ever touching Pokémon GO or will there be monsters you can only access in Let's Go by importing them from GO?) Cos if that's the case I'll definitely be passing on this. Otherwise not that stoked about catching Pokémon GO style as I found that mechanic to be terribly frustrating.

At least there are still trainer battles, I guess. Not hyped and definitely going to wait till it's released and see what critic and ERA opinions are like before I even consider picking it up.

England, U.K.
I think it looks beautiful, but I'm so painfully disappointed in the direction they have gone. I bought and played Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, then the remakes Fire Red, Leaf Green - WHY back again? Then there's how they're making it a Pokemon Go hybrid - over simplified and the battle system completely altered.

I don't want a "more simplified experience" - hell Sun/Ultra Sun & Moon/Ultra Moon were simple enough. Keep the graphics but let's have a brand new region, brand new Pokemon, and the same amazing turn-based battle system we've loved for decades.

Like I said, painfully disappointed.

His post was a little bit inaccurate.

In handheld mode, you'll juste need to aim with the gyro and then press a button to throw the ball.

If this isn't the "real" Switch Pokemon, then great, whatever. If this is the "real" next step in the series, then I'm dumbstruck.

I'm down on these games too, but saying they lack ambition is unfair. Just look at how much care they took with the way Pokemon follow you and how you ride the larger ones.

You find an NPC following you around ambitious? I guess for Gamefreak pretty much anything is ambitious at this point.

Where were you 2 months ago. We all knew what we were getting from the rumors and the leaked screenshots.

Far away I was xD
I just wanted to hold my breath until an actual announcement was made.

This is essentially a remake of Yellow, how is it anything but more of the same? lol

Oh I dont speak for just myself, I saw several posts like "OMFG Pokemon following you is back" and I just sigh. But to each their own.

I love the smell of a good meltdown in the morning. People predicting a 50 metacritic lmfao. Looks good to me, I'm in.
Is that real ? xD It'll be at least 80 for sure.
They probably fail to see how awesome it could be as a coop adventure.
I mean... you can do the whole game as 2 characters having their own pokemon.
If there's at least some challenge and various types of battles 2vs1, 2vs2 as usual against trainers, it's great.
No need for random battles with frustrating "will I kill it or will it have HP in red zone ?" among other things.

Very much looking forward more details.

The official site states this:

The practice of catching Pokémon has been changed dramatically from previous titles. Now you can use your Nintendo Switch's Joy-Con to toss a Poké Ball at your target with one hand, either by pressing a button or flicking your wrist. With fewer buttons and intuitive action, it's never been simpler.
https://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-video-games/pokemon-lets-go-pikachu-and-pokemon-lets-go-eevee/

Not sure if that means no motion is required at all though.

If they dont simplify the battle system, I'm sure VGC will be played with lets go. So they can get people into watching the torunament with the pokemon that they know.

But, it will probably be a really boring tournament with no variety (hell if it wasnt for alola forms you would have no dark types and only one ghost type and dragon type).

People need to start judging Let's GO by what they really are: transition games till Gen 8 in 2019.

TPCi should have communicated better and not let people believe this is the "main core RPG" that was announced last year, but it was silly to expect a Gen 8 Pokemon BOTW right this year.

Once people realise that I think there won't be so much hate. I mean, you still could dislike the game (im not 100% convinced either) but at least people should know what kind of game this is.

What is there even to do on the routes now? Battle the 4 trainers present and that's it?

Honestly, I'm fine with all the crap GameFreak has pulled for this game as I recognize it's not for me, but no battles with wild Pokémon baffles me so much.

Unfortunately this person's disability is very severe and I don't know if playing in handheld mode for long periods of time is viable for them. Hopefully there's an option to use Joy-Con pointing and a button in docked mode.

I mean, we sort of have to put up with your lazy dev narrative that's almost as old as Pokémon itself. So let's let the market decide.
I'm not even interested in this year's games, will be anticipating 2019 instead. But come the f*ck on, let people like what they like and spare us this horrible elitist crap. You won't buy these games, got it.

Elitist because I'm asking for a little change ?
I'm not asking them to give us a huge world like Breath of the Wild. I'm just asking them to give us things we can expect from PS2 era.

Was not too hyped at first when reading the info but now that I thought about it I am actually very interested. Depending on how they handle the trainer battles this could actually work really well for me. As long as there is challenge to be found in both catching and batteling trainers I will buy the game. The normal formula has been stale for a while now for me, played all games since I bought Blue back at it's release.

There's no way VGC is played on Let's Go. Even discounting the limited amount of Pokemon to choose from, I just can't see TPC forcing people to make competitive teams in a game without breeding. Bye-bye egg moves, and IV breeding.

Small visual quirks can't make up for overarching lazy game design. Not that I can judge yet but what we've seen so far is INCREDIBLY uninspiring. Game Freak gonna Game Freak I guess.

I for one am excited about this. As much as there are people crying about it, there are also people like me whose an old Pokemon fan that has been WAITING for a remake of the Kanto region to get back into it.
You guys gotta realize, not everyone is up to date on PKMN like you are. I get that you're die hard fans, but PKMN can seem overwhelming to some. I mean, I been so outta date myself, that I couldn't even tell you how many pkmn there are.
Now I hear there's Mega forms and Alola forms? Yeah. Some of you guys need to chill and understand this game is just not for you. Wait till the main one next year.

By the way, how you guys feeling about Pokemon Quest? Been very much enjoying that as well!
I just hope they implement all the multiplayer aspects to the main gen game coming next year.

Apparently I was mistaken. The motion controls only extend to gyro controls in handheld mode to aim but you can press a button to throw the ball.
