Thought this looked dumb but tried it out on Switch and it was actually... kinda.... fun? I dunno if fun is even the right word, it's pretty mindless but addicting. Seems easy enough to play without spending money too but maybe I'm just still in the free to play still trying to hook somebody phase where everything is easier.

I mean, technically you can, but it's just an awkward mapping of the cursor to an analog stick,
You can also switch between Pokemon with the Shoulder Buttons and use moves with X and Y
edit: Ninja'd

My Magmar and Onix are cleaning up shop. Magmar has a high ATK and Onix has a high HP. Perfect Dynamic duo

I'm actually kinda looking forward to giving this a try when I get home. I hope it's not one of those games that just becomes literally unplayable without spending money after a little time.

It is and isn't. It's very similar to any energy-based game on mobile. However, you can purchase permanent upgrades that drastically decrease this issue, which is different from most of the energy-based mobile games I've played. If you buy the $30 pack, it becomes almost a non-issue.

To put it in numbers, if you started a session fully charged, completed it within half an hour (so you didn't get any extra energy by waiting), and used only the tickets you get for logging in each day (nothing from the bonus challenges), you could only do 15 expeditions. If you buy the $30 pack, that number becomes 56, which will be plenty.

This is the first game from Game Freak for a Nintendo home console since 1997 for SNES/Super Famicom, Bushi Seiryuuden.

Oh my God, why can't we get more art like this?!

Anyway, I like the cube art style and stuff, but the game just isn't for me.

This is the first Switch game I've played without any joycon attached. It's pretty interesting to use the Switch as a gaming tablet. The presentation and UI are pretty slick and the simple gameplay has been entertaining so far.

Just spent an hour playing. It's aight.

Curious what the "mainline" games are gonna be like considering I HATED sun/moon.

I may just be done with pokemon. X/Y were good and HGSS were perfection. What I want from pokemone will probably never exist, but at least HGSS happened and gave me everything I could want from a 2nd gen remake.

I didn't much care for the reveal, but playing it, it ain't too shabby for a mobile/free-to-play/turn exhaust thing. Cute, with good tunes.

It's pretty bad. Pretty mindless timer based time killer, except it's on the Switch, and I have like at least 5 other things on the Switch to play at any given time, which makes it pointless to whip the Switch out just to play this. Will probably install it on my phone when the mobile one is out and play that more since time wasters on the phone makes more sense than time wasters on a dedicated device.

Yeah, I can see myself enjoying it more when I'm in transit and have nothing better to do on my phone.

Do I have to pay real money for more info in the OT? ;)

This seems quite nice. I was always a fan of the various F2P things on the 3DS, as you could wake up and do a few tasks. This will be my replacement for that.

Game seems really shallow but fun enough, the art style is pretty nice too. My main issue with it is using a cursor for the analog stick/button controls. Like seriously? The UI is comprised of a handful of buttons, it would not be hard to jump between them at a D-pad press instead of a crappy cursor.

How do stone evolutions/trade evolutions work? It seems like other Pokemon just evolve at their main series evolution level.

Just got a shiny Aerodactyl woo.

I'm not too hot on this game. Graphics look amazing, I'd love a more "normal" game on this graphical style. The thing is, this is no normal game. It's a free-to-play game with free-to-play mechanics like energy, PM Points, whatever the hell these are, and, ugh, forced waiting. This, in my opinion ,just makes the experience worse, but I get what they are aiming for - this is a mobile game, and it's not the kind of game I see myself playing on the Switch. Gameplay also was kind of dull, I guess, but evolving the Pokemons is fun.

I actually don't mind the gameplay. Once you get used to switching with L and R and using the face buttons to trigger spells, it's actually good fun. I am completely turned off by the micro upgrade mobile gamification loop shit though. Which sucks.

Considering this is free to play, this game is really fun.

You can tell it's designed for mobile, but the core mechanics are fun and addictive, i beated the first level, i'm actually happy to have this on my Switch cause it looks perfect for short sessions.

It will be a new phenomenon once it comes to Android/iOS.

Hit the wall already, was fun while it lasted though.

Probably just gonna stop playing until it comes out on mobile since I never take my switch anywhere.

I have yet to get into a situation where just clicking auto didn't do a better job than me playing the game myself, and that really makes the game feel shallow.

Tried it out last night. It's definitely a "shallow" game specifically with mobile in mind, but knowing what limits that entails I actually wound up enjoying it a little more than I would have expected. I don't intend to ever put money into it, but as a little idle time use or some brief de-salting after Splatoon I could see myself tossing in 20 minutes every once in a while and still having fun enough.

I need a new close-range pokemon though. I didn't realize that Vulpix would be a ranged attacker so now my poor Eevee is the only thing in front and it's getting beat on quickly.

That really sucks that I can't sync data between Switch and my phone, seems like an oversight on their end. Why not have that feature to encourage me to play more? If I don't bring my Switch to work and I have 5 mins of free time, let me grind out an expedition or two and sync back at home, so when I'm on the Switch waiting on the wife I can run a few expeditions?

Is there any benefit manually controlling my pokemons? I just let them battle automatically, and they did pretty well..

So......... are there any non-gen 1 Pokemon in this game? I kinda dig the concept, gameplay and whatnot but if it's just gen 1 then I don't think I'll bother- gonna be another time and day for that on the horizon.
