Coming from Bloodborne (my first soulsborne game) I really had to adjust myself, but after some time it clicked in a mayor way.
I'm really enjoying the shit out of it.
The only thing I'm not enjoying as much as Bloodborne are the bosses. They are kind of underwhelming? I just arrived in the Depths, but so far I haven't felt that awesome sense of achievement after defeating a boss as I did in Bloodborne. Will that get better as I progress?
I think there are some standouts, but for the most part, they feel like refinements and evolutions of the bosses from Demon's Souls (which may underwhelm you even further outside of a few really good ones). There's one in particular a couple areas from where you are that tends to the make it or break it for a lot of players (sort of like how Father Gascoigne really tested players, only early on). You've gotten a good amount of training from BB, but it will still probably take you by surprise compared to what's come before. :)

Because it's vague ass BS that can completely ruin a play through. It basically punishes players that don't use a guide. I put 500 hrs into the game but just didn't think about the stupid ass restriction. Now my playthrough is ruined
I mean, it doesn't take 500 hours to get to that point. There's plenty of things you can't do in one playthrough. It's punishing if you forget to chop of Seath's tail too. I like that there's multiple ways to go through the game, with different options. I also think it makes sense to keep the PVP covenant kind of hidden. And from a story perspective, you only find Kaathe if you don't listen to Frampt's advice which makes sense I think

Playing for the first time, just rang the second bell, now my fire keeper is dead and the firelink bonfire is out. Without spoiling too much, did I fuck something up, or is this just a thing that always happens?

You can prevent this but it happens to most first time players. You will understand what to do later on the game. For now the bonfire will be out

I came across a second vagrant by the last of the four titanite demons lurking in the pit of Sen's fortress, this one didn't get away!
Only got me one humanity though.

So am I mad in thinking that enemies visibility/aggro range is higher than in PS3 this time around? I swear some of these peckers are jumping the gun on their attacks.
Is this the price I pay for increased visibility on my end?

Got a SL 100 finished on PS4. It's mainly centered around Black Knight Halberd and many other STR weapons and some Pyro spells. I like to invade, do Co op and run playthroughs, so this is probably my favorite build for my style.

Having a lot of fun invading all over the place again. Painted World has given me some of the best fights. Most players are still lower level I think, but there are still plenty of people 80-130 in SL. I'll probably make a SL 40 for some low level shenanigans.

I'm satisfied with the remaster, and I didn't have to pay the full 40 because of some Amazon prime promos, so it's even more worth it to me.

Speaking of killing Gwyndolin, I forgot that sets off the brass armour firekeeper, well that's an estus upgrade for me, she started it!
It doesn't turn the place dark though, as others have said that's for popping an arrow at his sis

so, playthrough done, finally killed Gwyn after helping other people yesterday. All in all, i enjoyed the game but there are spots that show their ugly side more than a few years ago. Nonetheless a real great game. Think i will play NG+ at a later date, no interest in playing again for the moment

Bloodborne definitely has better and more imposing bosses, but Dark Souls has the best boss in the franchise and you're not all that far away from there.

Killed my first Black Knight! Only took me two tries, too. Got a Black Knight Greatsword for my troubles. Not very handy for my Thief character, but hey, it's the thought that counts.

Again, can you cloud save to get the two endings (two gold trophies) in one play-through?
On PS4, yes, as it's just making a backup where you can then reload that save file. If you're gonna go into NG+, you can even do it right after killing Gwyn. Just don't activate one of the endings before backing up your save. This way you don't need to kill Gwyn twice.

Lost 20 humanity to the skeletons in the catacombs. Wanted to eat my fist in frustration.

This is probably a silly question but I'm seeing people summoning three people and I'm wondering how they do it, as I can only ever summon two for co-op.

You use the Dried Finger, which can be bought from the undead merchant in the burg.

Man, I forgot how much I hated fighting Manus. It's like fighting a giant toddler having a temper tantrum, just flailing around with reckless abandon with no hope of getting a hold of the little bastard.

Maybe someone's already addressed this - but I'm not seeing any player messages show up anymore on PC? I can still see summon signs though

How is it any different from other secrets in the game? It offers you an incentive to defeat Four Kings early before you get to Anor Londo.
Edit: Or rather it rewards you for defeating them first xD

You can still do all of Anor Londo first and join the Darkwraiths. Just make sure to not place the Lordvessel on the pedestal in the Firelink Altar.

I went through all of Sen's Fortress and most of Blighttown yesterday while in human form and only got invaded 1 time (and of course I died to a laggy back-stab).

Im in the camp that Bloodborne has the best bosses but Dark Souls has the best world, Dark Souls really captures the sense of an epic adventure, while Bloodborne was great, there was no clear goal or plot, towards the end you were just teleporting around too, a school, then some nightmare zone, then a castle, like what?

You can even join Darkwraith whilst still placing the LordVessel with Frampt... if you join it before obtaining the LV, that is.

I like to keep both Frampt and Kaathe happy with me (so I can join the Darkwraiths and still sell stuff to Frampt).

What I usually do is go through Anor Londo like normal and get the Lord Vessel. Then I go for the 4 Kings and talk to Frampt. He transports you to the Altar, but instead of placing the Lord Vessel, use a homeward bone to go back to the Abyss bonfire. Then talk to Kaathe again and he'll let you join, and since you didn't place the Vessel with Frampt, he won't be pissed at you.

Couple of questions:

Sometimes I will have up to 11 Estus flasks instead of the usual 5. Often after I return from afk at a bonfire. Is that the effect of other people doing something with the bonfire, giving me (some of) the effect as well? I don't remember it from the original, but online wasn't as busy then as it is now (seriously, there are bloodstaines everywhere).

For upgrading: is there some strategy involved with what to upgrade, when to upgrade? I currently have my Bandit Knife and I don't plan on dropping it soon, so I wondered if I should just upgrade it as high as possible, as fast as possible.

Also I've noticed said Bandit Knife being pretty ineffective against bosses because you can't backstab them. What would be good allround weapon to keep as backup? I'm thinking either Scimitar or Rapier due to Dex scaling, but I'm not sure which would serve me better in the long run.

It's a great early on feeling! Congratulations. :)
Thanks! Feels pretty good to overcome such an enemy. Even moreso than the early game bosses actually.

Boar was, once again, easier to deal with then I remembered. It was fun literally jamming my knife up its ass.

Agreed. I was just thinking the other day about how I would rank the various Soulsborne games, and you're exactly right about the relative strengths of those two titles. I'm not sure whether I would rate them as DS-BB or BB-DS, but those are clearly the top two titles in the franchise IMO.

So once a year, we have to take a shit schedule at work, and as luck would have it this is mine. So I'm not able to play DS all week. On the flip side, we're only here on call, so I'm watching ENB play DS, and he's jumping all over the damn place. Normally I'd see him tackle areas in full, but around when he first accesses the depths, I'm having a hard time following. Just trying to prepare for when I get there.

The firelink shrine bonfire gives you 10 estus instead of only 5

sometimes you can receive 1 charge of estus from other people playing ( theres a little sound effect thata ccompanies it too, I dontknow how its triggered but its there). you probably rested at firelink then got that +1 charge

Anyone know how the kb/m controls are in the remaster? Shit I take it?
Would be a bummer because the new mouse fix for DS1 works amazingly well.

Btw, I don't need ten replies about how you think kb/m is stupid thanks.

You can also increase the amount the bonfires give you by Kindling 1 humanity into them when in human form.

When others kindle their bonfire you last rested at gives you the extra charge.

yep, the way he worded his question though it feels like he didn't kindle anything yet tho
Nope, not yet, haha.

But thanks for the answers everyone. I just got back to the Firelink shrine through the Parish elevator and yeah, you get ten flasks there. Might be worth the trouble to replenish them there while I hone my parrying skills in the Parish (fuck those Balder Knights).

And yeah I just noticed two small flames flying towards me inside the chapel and giving me one more flask. So it doesn't matter where you are when someone kindles their bonfire, you will get the bonus anyway.

Speaking of network events. I think I remember the Church bell ringing whenever someone online does it in their game? I hear it pretty often.

Yep... it's really cool hearing both bells with the increased activity due to this remaster. Makes the world feel alive through what is a pretty subtle and simple audio cue! Makes me feel hopeful and good since I like to picture lots of first-time players making their way to each bell.
