Is the Giantdad build still viable?

I just started and of course I went straight for the Zweihander. I kinda wanted to do a Sorcery build because I know it wrecks PvE but I remember many years ago wrecking any Sorc invader with melee. :/

Just got all the achievements. Missed Dark Souls.

Nice! I did the same 6 years ago but I can't remember if there are any missables I should look out for. I vaguely remember one if the covenants being missable (Darkwraith?). Did you use a guide or go from memory?

You mean to use or do you mean you haven't seen any messages on the ground? You can buy the orange soapstone from the merchant in the Undead Burg. As far as messages go though, I believe they are currently broken in the remaster. Will have to wait for a patch to fix them I think.

I just haven't seen any on the ground. Wasn't sure if it was a bug in my game or if I had been soft banned or something. Definitely feels weird not seeing messages everywhere.

A few days ago I killed the Taurus demon with a single plunging attack using Black Knight Sword. This was at SL 20, after I looted all the goodies from the Catacombs, Blighttown, and killed Quelagg. Feels good man.

my gamer friend bought me this so i'd play through with him (we played through 2 and 3 but I'd already 100% 1 on 360). Fun to revisit. much more simple than 2 and 3 in ways, but also more complex in others (no warping, can't sell items until halfway through - fun times....).

I booted it up and I was already to Solaire within an hour or so even after 5 years away. another day and I'm farming the depths for humanity and large shards. Just beat the Gaping Dragon and off to Blight town or maybe Sif next.

Got the remaster yesterday, playthrough has been a breeze, really enjoying myself and then...Capra Demon halts all progress.

Dude's not even hard, but that narrow environment + the dogs just makes it a frustrating experience. I'm also trying not to cheese it for once with the run up the stairs to kill the dogs strategy, I just don't understand how the devs wanted you to approach this fight.

Claymore moveset = godly for Capra. Sweep horizontally and take out the dogs, then just run up the stairs and drop on Capra, or just lure him up to give yourself some space.

oh ok...I see what I did wrong...I was used to the later Dark Souls games method where if you just light the bonfire you can warp to it...you don't need to rest at the bonfire...I like that method better then forcing you to rest to get credit for discovering it

resting is the only way to acknowledge that you want to start at a bonfire after death or for warping. Makes sense if you think about it. It resets everything and saves. That way people can do no bonfire runs if they want or skip bonfires so they're not stuck in areas that they don't want to respawn in.

Think I might just drop this. Was enjoying my play through but the darkwraith covenant restriction completed killed my motivation to keep playing this. Still one of the best games of all time but I don't have the same patience for the vague BS these games have anymore.

Ugh. I hate wiping and losing the 10 humanity I have stacked up. At this point, that's way more of a loss than the souls. Glad to see I'm still terrible at the stray demon fight...

you can recover your souls + humanity by going back. 10 humanity would only affect item discovery, if you're worried about that.

Why is one covenant a game breaker for you? If you truly cared that much about that covenant, you'd already have known the stipulations. If it's just so you can get 100%, just do it on NG+.

TBH, I just totally forgot I couldn't place the lord vessel. I wanted a invader build and spent a lot of time making it. Just don't feel like going through the rest of the game + start of NG+ just to get the build I wanted.

I just don't think that kind of design is good and I don't have the patience for it anymore

It's only been out a week. You haven't spent that much time. Just reboot.

So wrong... Blighttown is an amazingly crafted level.

It's a well crafted shit hole with annoying mechanics and it's massive for the sake of being massive. Enemies aggro from ridiculous locations and ambush you all over the place, the enemies that are there are pretty dumb—especially the mosquitos with stupid hit boxes unless you use arrows/bolts. So far my least favorite zone in the game.

Couldn't you just have downloaded a cloud save? You'd still be set back a bit, but you wouldn't have had to start over from scratch.
I'm gonna go ahead and say Blighttown is a really shit zone even at 60fps.
I always though Blighttown was an under-rated level. Now that the framerate issues have been resoled, it's really good. It maintains a high degree of tension all the way down to the bottom.

and it does it well imo

I think levels like No Man's Wharf and The Gutter from DS2 accomplish what Blighttown tries to do better.

This. You just have to take your time and learn your way around.

Finding my way around wasn't the issue. It's just not a fun level to traverse, and took way longer than any other level to get through. I got through it and took down Quelaag. Luckily I'm done there for the time being.

People have a tough time hearing criticism about this game
Not really. There's plenty of legitimate criticism for this game. Bed of Chaos is the worst boss in the series. Lost Izalith is poorly designed. They recycle a (lame) boss 3 times. The DLC recycles an entire level (Darkroot), and one of the more underwhelming ones from the base game at that. 20 Estus is too much and game-breaking, especially mixed with poise-tanking. The hitboxes for 4 Kings is ridiculous (both for giving or receiving hits), and it's a poorly designed boss overall, nothing more than a lame DPS race. The UI has a few issues, it's a bit clunky, especially the bottomless box. PvP has many issues, we could make a big list of that alone. I could go on.

The game having secret content, however, isn't among those.

Quoting for new page. Anyone?
May I suggest, don't be the 3125436th memelord making a Giantdad and be creative instead? Just a thought... ;)

Anyone playing through NG+ at level between 90-100?
Any problems with summons and pvp? It's empty or full of fun? I don't believe it's empty, I'm just asking if NG+ can connect with NG players.

To expand on that, I now find a lot of the criticisms of DS2 to be completely overblown--primarily the complaints about too many groups of enemies. DS1 seems to have just as many or even more packs of enemies hanging around.

You have to remember DS2 got permanently updated pretty quickly back then. People also complained about too many empty open spaces in DS2, and they fixed that.

Man, DS1 is ruthless. Finished Bloodborne a few months ago and it's Top 5 games of all time for me now. Now playing through DS1 Remastered then DS2 SOTFS then DS3. But man is DS1 tough lol.

I think it's because of me being used to BB speed and agility versus the heavier slower feel of DS1.

Switching from Bloodborne to any of the Souls games is hard. I feel like switching between DS3 and BB is probably the easiest, but going from BB to DS2 was a real struggle.

I ran through it with the ring of fog and it was... Ok. The fire-breathing doggos were the worst of the lot, imo.

I thought time between playthroughs would offer clarity like it did for Blighttown, but man, the Tomb of the Giants still sucks. I hate it when my mentality switches from one of the joys of exploring and staying alive to suicide running to items and just getting the eff outta there and booking it to the boss. That's no way to play, but not being able to see shite doesn't make it memorable or encourage me to revisit it. It's been the first real low point for me this time around.

Edit: Also bought those PS4 avatars, even though I'm on PC. LOL

I'll preface this by saying I enjoyed DS2 alot, my two big problems with it was the combat was just too slow and the hitboxes were sometimes off. Still loved the game though. And the NG+ implementation was top notch, it was really well done and enjoyable.

Are you referring to SOTFS? Because that seems to be the version people complain about. I thought it was fine--never played the base game.

I remember people immediately complaining about the opening area of DS2 the minute it launched. Where the mob in the grassy field comes at you. But the rest of the game was pretty empty. They changed that before I went back to the game, but I never had much issue with anything.

interesting. I love DS1-3. I bought but haven't played BB yet. Maybe I'll like it.

If it's the same area, I think this happens in SotFS NG+. I remember launching into NG+, standing there for a second to check my phone, and I was surprised when I started getting attacked. LOL I don't remember that in NG (probably because you don't have a weapon at that point?).

No, they're always there. Coming from DS1 where every enemy was methodical one on one fight (mostly) having all those enemies at once right off the bat was a rude awakening.
