Fear has easily outshined the past few seasons of TWD, I really hope Season 9 steps it up.

I don't know what it is, but I haven't been into the main TWD show since Season 4, I think? I've watched a bunch of eps here and there, but nothing really grabbed me enough to make me watch the show religiously like those early seasons. FTWD has been my preference lately.

That was easily better than any episode The Walking Dead has produced in years and also one of the best episodes of either show period.

It's actually kind of remarkable to see the writers putting this much work into characters that we just met. It's something that we've never seen the main show do. Like, imagine if we'd gotten an episode like this featuring Aaron and David (or whoever). That'd actually be a great way for TWD to pad out each season - do a few flashback/backstory episodes for prominent new characters so we actually cared whether they lived or died.

Right now FtWD is running circles around the main show.

Agreed. I usually don't really like the episodes that focus on one or two characters because I want the main story to move forward, but this episode was brilliant. Christ, I couldn't believe that was Jenna Elfman from fucking Dharma & Greg.

Same. I only liked the first few seasons of Walking Dead and thought the show went completely downhill after that. I've stopped watching the show for years now. Fear the Walking Dead is far more interesting to me, and I've loved every single season so far, with today's episode probably being my favorite episode ever. Such a beautifully, well produced episode. And both Jenna Elfman (who is trending on Yahoo right now) and Garret Dillahunt were freaking incredible in this episode and the chemistry between the two were amazing in this episode!

This show is so much better than TWD...they could learn a lot from Fear.

Last night's episode was one of my fav from either show ever...

That's what I loved so much about the first few seasons of LOST....the backstory episodes were phenomenal.

It's ridiculous how much more interesting Fear... is compared to TWD. But as good things go I doubt the ratings are there and the show will inevitably be axed :(

I mean, if had last episode's waterslide happened in TWD it would've been inside a shipping container or a warehouse if they felt generous. Oh, all all grey and brown muted colours. With teleporting forest zombies.

Wah, I just caught up after binging season 3 over the past few days and so far I'm pretty disappointed with season 4. Killing Nick seems silly since if they were gonna kill him there was the perfect set up for it at the end of season 3. I also don't like this timeskip atm, it feels too much like TWD 2.0 and doesn't have the uniqueness of the first 3 seasons of fear since we're now again in a world where everything is dead and almost everyone is a killer/shithead. Hopefully, things improve but with my favourite character now dead and the show's timeline being pushed forward I don't have much confidence.

Also, why do they keep giving Daniel vague off-screen maybe deaths? Either kill him or keep him, stop being in the middle all the time.

My thoughts exactly!

Yeah, as someone else explained, Daniel can't commit to the show. I believe the reason is he's actually a very popular and busy musician and that's his primary commitment right now. That's his sole focus right now.

As for Nick, he actually wanted off the show this season because he wanted to pursue other things and go back to Europe, which is where he was from.

So during their stay at the hotel, Dharma started to say something about the fema center they were headed to. Suddenly, the feed cuts to some Nugenix bullshit commercial and when it cuts back, Strand is demanding the keys from her. What did she say that got him so upset?

Dang, last week's episode was one of my favorite episodes in either show actually, and made John Dorie my favorite character in Fear, and now he gets shot!! I really hope he's not dead. Naomi gotta save him with her medical skills or something...

She told him that she really was planning to run away after all, but was still going to leave the map for them to find the seeds.

Oh I had no idea Gimple had taken over this season. No wonder it's as bad as The Walking Dead now. lol

Oh well... I guess now this show can be 15 episodes of bullshit + 1 finale where everything happens.

Are we watching the same show? A major character death just happened and it wasn't the finale.

He didn't. Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg are the showrunners.
He isn't? Why is Reddit having a meltdown and said he is. lol

"Major character"? Nick died three weeks ago!
I just feel like they'll keep dragging out this "before"/"after" bullshit forever, just like the tedious Negan stuff. Certainly feels that way... and it doesn't help they brought over a character I despise either.

Yes, three weeks ago wasn't the finale, and his death came out of no where. As far as dragging this out, what are you looking for with this show? They're building up these new characters, dedicating time to these relationships, explosive episodes can't be every week. And you can't possibly compare this to Negan yet because that was dragged out for two seasons over the course of two years; this has only just begun.

TV Line - Fear the Walking Dead Review: Why the AMC Drama Deserves a Reevaluation

t's unusual for TVLine to review a series after it's debuted, never mind four seasons into its run. But what's happened to Fear the Walking Dead is beyond unusual. Since the AMC drama installed as its new showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg, it's gone from being an adequate stopgap between seasons of The Walking Dead to a show that's as good or arguably even better than the one from which it was spun off.

On top of it all, this version of Fear is full of surprises — and not just the "OMG, they killed Nick!" kind. Over and over again, Season 4 has knocked me off the couch, shocking me with the identity of John's Laura (I had bet on Madison), Charlie's allegiance to the Vultures (not to mention the little girl's murder of Nick!), Strand's willingness to run out on Madison, Naomi's betrayal of her new friends, John's shooting… And, every time the list grows, I realize anew that Fear has stopped being a show that I like and watch out of habit, and begun being a show that I love and watch because I can't wait to see what happens next. If that isn't beyond unusual, I don't know what is.

So any theories on why Naomi joined this other group? That was quite the plot twist at the end.

Finally got to catch up on this season over the course of the past week— saw the premiere in theaters, but didn't watch any other episodes until now. My thoughts:

  • Can't say I care much for Madison this season. She was my favorite character after how hard she became in season three (A lot of her interactions with Troy were brutal as hell, and her backstory dump solidified her place as my favorite), but she seems totally different this season. It disappoints me a little because it feels like we're just retreading Rick's "good cop, now bad cop, and now good cop again" arcs from the original show again, except with her. That said, her request to Alicia after what went down at the FEMA shelter has me at least convinced that she isn't suddenly stupid. She still knows how things realistically go. I really hope we get more big moments focused on her soon, because it feels like we haven't had too many yet. I also really hope that she isn't dead.
  • I was shocked when Charlie killed Nick. I know a lot of people liked him, and I definitely liked him a good bit after season three. I do like that he sort of plays into the whole "playing with time" aspect this season though— even though he's dead and we know he's dead, he's still showing up a lot in the flashbacks.
  • I honestly thought John would be my least favorite character going into the season, because the ads made him out to be just a generic gunslinger-type. But I think he's been handled and acted very well, and I hope he survives. That said, one thing I'm kind of getting a hint of has me worried...
  • ... I get the feeling that he may only serve to further develop who I think the true main villain of the season will turn out to be, which I think is Naomi. Maybe my guess is off-base, but she just doesn't sit right with me. The way Alicia acted when she saw her makes me think she has something to do with whatever happened to the stadium and Madison.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season goes. Hopefully I'll be able to watch it weekly again from here on out.

Oh, one more thing: I like how Morgan is in this. I'm glad we're finally done with his "to kill, or not to kill" storyline that dragged on for ages. He feels much more like a real character to me now, and I think putting him in a new setting with totally different people from the main show was a great call. I really hope he and Madison get to interact some.

So.

I'm just about caught up on this show after falling behind quite a bit.

Seasons 3 and now 4 are better than the last three seasons of the original show. Season 3 might be one of my favorite seasons in The Walking Dead universe.

And the ending of 3x03 is possibly the biggest emotional gut punch either show has given me. I legit cried.

Every episode from this season is sitting on my DVR. I haven't watched a single one yet, apart from the first five minutes of the first one. Part of me wants nothing to do with TWD or FTWD anymore and is bored and sick of it, but another part tells me I've gone this far, the show has been getting better and that I will regret deleting it all.

Fucking YouTube recommendations ruined
Nick's death
for me even though I've maybe only watched one TWD video in years.

How has this season been?
