I died like 12 times before I started to really get my footing in this DLC. I had to get used to the gameplay again after spending 50 hours with Assassin's Creed Origins.

Also, fuck Scorchers. I know you have to forward roll when they leap, but they constantly make me panic and roll away instead.

What kind mods do I want to put on these new weapons? Handling? Damage? Elemental? I don't know which has the biggest benefit.

I just started playing through the DLC, and it feels like they took criticism of the game's voice acting and character animations to heart, because the new stuff feels vastly improved over what was in the base game.

Also, 'letting players pick loot up while on a mount' should be engraved into the minds of every open-world dev from here on out. Such a simple QoL change, but it completely changes the pace of the game.

So no one else had this issue where time of day wasn't advancing anymore?

I hope my game isn't glitched... :(

I had two glitches while playing the game.

1) At night, at a certain part of the map, simply walking would make the sky and the moonlight to go crazy, as if every step I took, time advanced 2 hours, very rapidly. It was weird, I could see the starts shifting quickly in the sky as I walked back and forth. And I'm an idiot for not recording it...

2) Final Mission Spoiler
During the final mission with Aratak and Ourea, they disappeared from the map while I was creating the bridges for them to cross over. I looked for them everywhere and even backtracked quite a bit. Nothing. I had to kill myself in a lava pool for them to respawn.

The second one happened to me, too.
Their script got stuck way back in the level and had to reload the checkpoint to progress

Gosh this game is just stunning. I don't think I can envisage a better looking game. It's just off the charts.

Game seems quite a bit more challenging then the base on normal. The bear fight was ridiculous. 2 would have been sufficient. 3 was madness.

The thrower weapons benefit most from elemental mods, IMO. Powershot Bow shines with handling mods; Striker Bow depends on your loadout (I'd take a damage modded Striker over a Powershot, myself); Champion Bow modded with the elemental of your choice.

Man this last fight against the Fireclaw. I just can't seem to get rid of his long range attacks. I've hit him with so many tear arrows and just nothing.

The new Fireclaw enemies are such a bitch to fight. Their attacks come out fast and furious and it seems like they have 20 different attacks. I don't think I'm a fan.

Also I wish there was a way you could show particular animals on the map. The same way machines show up. I'm trying to increase my carry capacity and I have no idea where to find an Owl or a Squirrel.

Finished the main story quest.

Holy shit.

The idea of there being other AI besides GAIA and her subordinate functions is awesome. Hopefully CYAN plays a big part in Horizon 2, especially if you end up rebuilding GAIA that game.

Just to note, you can go back to
CYAN and have a chat about various things that have happened in the original game near the end of the main storyline.
Love little touches like that.

I mostly ignored the elemental weapons after I repeatedly killed myself with the electric one. Went triple frost on the elemental bow, a triple shot + double shot was enough to cause pretty much everything to get frozen. Powershot I just went triple damage.

Yeah, the conversation with CYAN gave me the feeling that's exactly where this is going. We now know for sure that the core we saw that had a calming influence on the machines was GAIA's; CYAN seem to be intelligent, able to learn and have a fair amount of technical knowledge. Only thing missing is probably the manufacturing capabilities for the stuff they'll need to rebuild. I thought HEPHAESTUS would provide that.

I love the game (story/setting/gameplay), but does anyone else feel they didn't quite nail the ending in the main storyline?
While the gates of Meridian was cool, on my second playthrough I felt ending the game on yet another Death Bringer was a misstep. First time through, I was sure it was going to be one of the big tentacle creatures you see the remains of beforehand. It kind of felt like they ran out of time to include a bigger set-piece.

Also, I'm not fully convinced by HADES. The voice and dialogue are a little cheesy (compare it to Sovereign in ME1) and the character comes across as a one dimensional typical videogame villain, whereas the other main players in the story seem more nuanced. Also didn't like the 'space magic' of it physically teleporting away to Sylens at the end.

Still, there are plenty of ways the sequel can go. What happened to the Odyssey, Elysium and the other AI components of GAIA are all areas that could be explored. I just hope that they keep the story grounded and don't give into the temptation to make the next 'big bad' as one note, because the 90% of Horizon's bigger mystery is well done.

I suppose that if the other functions all escaped it only makes sense that was GAIA. It's implied that the Metal Flowers and the similar tribute around Sobeck's resting place are the work of DEMETER. Maybe she'll be friendly and help rebuild GAIA? She must have some kind of manufacturing capabilities to make those flowers.

Also I am 100% convinced it was Far Zenith/Odyssey that sent the signal.

Oh boy, what a ride. According to my stats I've played this game +90 hours now, I can't remember the last time I've put this many hours into a single player game. Stunning achievement from Guerilla Games.

Oh yeah, if any of the subroutines is friendly towards Aloy, it's definitely DEMETER. One of the datapoints kinda implies that the scientist in charge of DEMETER was not only infatuated with poetry, but also had a crush on Lis. DEMETER memorializing Lis' resting place kinda nudges to believe that the taste for poetry was not the only thing that the scientist passed onto DEMETER.

Always thought Odyssey would turn up to be important somehow to the plot going forward. Now we know there were other very advanced AIs around back then; FZ had super advanced tech, according to Lis, it isn't much of a stretch to believe they had one such AI. Maybe it spent the past 900 years travelling back from wherever it went, tried to contact Earth, found a bunch of AIs being enslaved by another AI and thought "eh, no bueno".

Just finished the DLC and it was fantastic. It reminded me of how much I love the world and the characters in it. My immediate thought upon completing the DLC was "I want more".

I loved the scene at the end of Aloy and CYAN just talking to each other. Having a fully functional AI opens up so many possibilities for that world and how it will change going forward. I'm curious to see any repercussions because I told CYAN that she has to tell the Banuk the truth of what she is. Will this mark the beginning of a change in Banuk culture, where they become the leaders in technology because they have access to an AI? Or will they reject CYAN completely?

Also, do tearblast arrows not work against daemonic Thunderjaws?

They do, you just need a lot of them to break off the disc launchers.

what's the best difficulty for the first game?

Hard or higher. Anything lower is a disservice to the gameplay.

What kind mods do I want to put on these new weapons? Handling? Damage? Elemental? I don't know which has the biggest benefit.

Hunter bow benefits most from damage imo, if you exclusively use hardpoint arrows (aka the bread and butter ammo). Best if you can slot in damage mods with bonus handling.
I also keep a second hunter bow modded with fire damage.

Element damage of choice for the War bow. Since corruption isn't as useful in the dlc, I use +freeze damage.

Sharpshot bow, again, depends on your preferred arrow. Precision arrows benefit from damage and handling. Tearblast, from tear + handling. I find hardpoint modded with damage to be way more effective than precision arrows, so I mainly use my sharpshot for tearblast.

Also I wish there was a way you could show particular animals on the map. The same way machines show up. I'm trying to increase my carry capacity and I have no idea where to find an Owl or a Squirrel.

Owl and squirrels are literally everywhere in the dlc area. Just use your focus to scan them. Any area with trees and you will find some 100%

I upgraded to the Banuk sharpshooter bow and modded it with a bunch of damage mods. One shot can take off the breastplate of a Longleg and leave it with quarter health. It's pretty nice.

This is what I thought too before coming back to this DLC. Precision arrows have WAY higher base damage than hardpoint though; is this something that the new bows changed or did I never realize it before?

Higher damage but at the cost of handling. The time it takes to stack and fire 3 precision arrows, I can fire more than a dozen hardpoint arrows.

Hunter bow has more craftable ammo, cheaper to craft and added bonus of having fire arrows on the same bow.

I listen to a fair few podcasts and I don't think I remember a single one actually talking about Frozen Wilds.

That's pretty much how I see it, as well. Since I don't use Tear arrows because they trivialize a lot of the game, I don't even bother carrying a Sharpshot.

I booted up the game for the first time in ages, jumped into the DLC, and promptly got my ass handed to me. I got there in the end, phew. I still wish the inventory had different UI in the options menu, I can never remember which bow is which just from looking at the icon, sob. (Then I had specialized bows for electricity, or corrosion, or damage, etc, which makes it worse again.)

I just started playing through the DLC, and it feels like they took criticism of the game's voice acting and character animations to heart, because the new stuff feels vastly improved over what was in the base game.

Yeah! I haven't gotten to put much time into the Frozen Wilds yet, but I love in cutscenes that characters aren't just staring at each other. Aloy will sometimes pace, there was one man was cleaning his weapon, etc. The camera pulling back further to focus on the characters more in profile is nice, too. There's some really nice little animations in cutscenes all-round, quite a few that I didn't recognize.

I was getting so frustrated at the last boss after most of the DLC being easy, only to realize that I had forgotten that there's a dodge button. I guess that's what happens when you put the game down for several months...

I didn't realize the whole thing was a result of climate change, especially since it shows North America as a frozen wasteland. 20% of the human population dies due to climate change in the 2040's? Yikes.

So I originally stopped playing this game shortly after launch because Zelda came out and am now finally going to get back to it. I managed to get up to the point where the world finally opens up and probably played like 2 or 3 hours after that. I was around level 10 and I remember the combat being kinda difficult for me even back then so I'm afraid to go back. Anyone have any tips for me on the game or how to get back into it. Also, I bought the DLC because of the preorder discount. Should I finish the game before I play that or will I just naturally play it in the late game?

Explore all the weapon types and find the ones you like using. There is a ton of variety to the gameplay in this game. Don't get hung up just using bows and your spear.
Don't ignore weak points on the machines; causing explosions does tons of damage and causes status effects.
Harvest everything you see. It will save you time trying to farm trading materials later on.
Upgrade inventory space and ammo capacities asap.

You can start the DLC around level 30 but honestly I would just finish the game first. Or start it and then alternate back and forth. The recommended level for the final story mission is like 35? and the final DLC mission is like 50... The new weapons and armor you can buy in the DLC area are very good though.

Advanced into the main quest (and completed a pending side-quest) and it still didn't fix the day/time cycle. Dammit. My game is bugged. :(
