The bosses don't age as well. I also could be that we've gotten better. Sif gave me hard time my first play through. I destroyed it this time around.

I think it's that later Souls games had deeper move pools, so you adjust accordingly. Coming back to Dark Souls 1, it's easier to adjust.

Well yes, later games made the bosses more agile and dinamic due the increased combat speed, Bloodborne feels more arcade ish compared to DS1

Is there any reason to keep gwynevere alive? If you kill ha you can get early access to gwyndolin and get the fire keeper soul earlier.

I ran into a bunch of vagrants as an invader, but never one in my own game, haha. Never even had that happen as an invader before.

Edit:

Not sure what you mean by early access to Gwyndolin? You can fight Gwyndolin at any time after getting the Darkmoon ring.

But a reason to not do that is if you are in the Darkmoon covenant, of course. Pretty sure this would break it.

My understanding is that you can actually get to Gwyndolin without the ring (before you go get it) if you kill Hooty. Or dispel the myth of Hooty. Whatever you want to call it. Not true? I don't have the ring yet of course (I imagine most don't have it by that point).

Oh I know that. Not my first rodeo, but it's been several years since I played the original Dark Souls so I was wondering if this was always a thing or just a bug. Turns out it might be my controller, son of a gun.

Are you on PS4? I had this with Bloodborne where the forward input was off.

I googled it and the solution was to literally blow air into the controller where the joystick is.

Bought Cast Light from Dusk but kind of disappointed by how little light it produces. I had hoped I could use it in Darkroot Garden as well. That forest gives me the heebie-jeebies.

And fuck those large cats in Darkroot Garden. Just killed one of them I thought I was done, and suddenly two more come rolling into me. Screw those guys, I'm going home.

What's up with the sprinting? Was it always this jerky, start and stop or is something up with my controller?

Like I start running, stop, start again, stop. Super annoying.

PS4? I have one controller that does this occasionally. Seems like the Y axis momentarily stops reading the stick and just sends a 0. Even if it only happens for one frame in most games it's enough to reset a run state.

Found my first ever vagrant today down in Blighttown! Very cool to finally see one after hearing about them all these years.

getting the Knight's Honor achievement (acquire all rare weapons) is really a grind and annoying...

I beat Blighttown. I can either do the Asylum, Dark Basin, or Sen's Fortress. Accidentally went to the Ashen Lake and did all that (running from the hydra like a mad man).

The issue is I'm terribly under-leveled and relied too much on co-op for help. Oh, and I lost the 30k souls I got after defeating Quelaag by accidentally falling lol.

What should I do? Guessing the Asylum? Any idea how to farm souls without losing my mind?

Helping people beat quelaag will fetch you 10,000 souls.

I started a new character and have been helping people out in the depths - most of the players that are summoning me are clearly lost. It's hilarious leading them to the rat boxes and watching them flail around when they get spooked.

So apparently I've been hacked because I just ran around the better part of an hour and didn't see any summon signs or player messages in 4 different areas. Damnit.

Did you get invaded by anyone specifically that stood out as a hacker, or did you pick up any items that were dropped for you, that were likely created through cheating?

I haven't checked yet, but if you can family and friend share the game, try on a different account and see if you're still having the issue

No I didn't get invaded by or summon anyone who was obviously hacking, and I haven't picked up any items from anyone I've played with. I'll have to try a different account and see it that helps. Thanks.

My SO, playing through Dark Souls for the first time just arrived in the big axe swinging room of Sen's Fortress and while walking and taking it all in, underbreath whispered, "I've had this nightmare before..."

Yessss. And with Havel's Ring (first time I defeated that guy) I can actually wear this without fat rolling.

It's not quite the dex/backstab build I had in mind but I do enjoy the posibilities my current 20 STR/20 DEX build gives me.

Well done! Havel can be a tough nut to crack. I generally do not play many quality builds but they are super versatile and I am glad you are enjoying it. Onward brave Knight...

Thanks!

Yeah I remembered Havel from years ago. As I made my way to the Taurus Demon, I opened the door as a thief and ran into Havel. I recall it being a quick fight.

He did kill me once this time — it was kind of cheap, as he did an instant 180 when I stood behind him and slammed me into the ground — but the second time I easily backstabbed him to death.

As for builds, I just decided to save the potential min-maxing for a NG+ playthrough. With 20/20 I have tons of options and I like that more than having to backstab everything.

Man, I just love being summoned and chuck Lightning Spears at bosses with impunity. Best way to farm souls. And you get humanity to boot.

It takes longer than I expected though. Level 50 in Sen's and it can take up to 5 minutes for me to get summoned. I don't know if I'm over leveled (or maybe it's my +10 Great Club? ) or simply there's too much supply of people placing signs down.

In the pc version there are so many summon signs at bosses it looks like graffiti,

I cleared Anor Londo, rescued the Firekeepers soul, got the Lordvessel, took out Stray Demon and Sif, and cleared New Londo up until the fog gate/Abyss. Pretty good day. I summoned for O&S. Didn't feel like throwing my body at it forever.

I still hate New Londo. Those Darkwraiths are bastards and the ghosts are just annoying. Anor Londo wasn't as bad as I expected. The Silver Knights are easy once you get the timing down. I made it past the archer squad by just rushing one and one shorting him with a Parry/Riposte. Went well for me.

Its a combination of being a bit overleveled at 50 and having a +10 weapon. But even then, you can always get coop opportunities basically anywhere in the game.

Had a very productive day. Took out the gaping dragon, the hydra and finally Quelaag!

I was very intimidated going into Blighttown, given the reputation, but it honestly wasn't that bad. The hardest part were the piece of shit toxic archers. I used all my cures pretty quick, then just ran around item hunting. Then I decided to just run my ass from top to bottom, and made it in one go. I was able to get to the bonfire luckily and secure the tattered clothing, which was the best thing ever. Boss wasn't bad at all, but I did unfortunately kill the servant of Quelaag's sister because I thought he was an enemy.

So now I need to climb back out....right?

You're probably right. I do get summoned. It just takes a bit. I guess I am overleveled, thought it's weird since I don't feel overleveled. Probably because I've put all my points into STR and Faith. Not a single point into Vitality.

My +10 Great Club just melts faces. I was jump attacking the Iron Golem for 800+ damage.

.

You can exit to the Valley Drakes so you don't have to go all the way back the way you came in. It's a pretty short trip to Firelink.

Look around there may be a faster way back to Firelink Shrine. Remember the torches...

Where do I exit to valley of the drakes? I saw the demon ruins and figured I should get out of there, lol.

Haven't quite been able to beat Ornstein and Smough (SL1). Any tips?

If you're doing pyro, great fireball and chaos fireball will melt Ornstein in seconds. Super Smough is easy, just create enough distance to evade his butt slam and hammer glide. Attack when you have an opening and get out.
