Worst part of the "no hardware this WWDC" is that I'm still waiting on them to fix the currency conversion differences.

been waiting on that for long enough that I'm just gonna have to eat the loss and get a new Mac to replace my 2008 cheesegrater

I don't see how macOS getting apps from iOS is merging both operating systems.

It's going to happen at some point. The build quality has already gone downhill as far as I'm concerned with Macbook Pros. With everything soldered to the mobo, it's extremely limiting nowadays. And then there's the god awful touchbar.

Apparently Mojave requires a metal compatible graphic card so all macs pre 2012 are discontinued (except Mac Pro if you add a compatible card)

Yo, iOS 12 and Mojave seem pretty fiiiine. Haven't had a Mac in years, and I think I have the impetus to go back since my laptop is getting ancient.

Is there anything similar to Shortcuts (previously workflow app) on Android?
So I may be misunderstanding it, but it seems very similar to Google Home "routines" which you create a custom phrase and do all the things you want it to do. They also seem very similar to Slices, Google Now, and Actions. Slices is a new feature in Android P.

So it seems like an amalgamation of a few different features if I understand it correctly.

iPad gestures

iOS 12 for iPad includes updated gestures that make it easier to navigate. You can now go to the Home screen by swiping anywhere on the Dock. Get to Control Center more conveniently with a swipe from the top-right corner.

iPad made like iPhone X

iPhone X gestures coming to iPad. iPad X is real.

To be fair, the iPad always had gestures to go back to the home screen (4 finger pinch) and switch apps (4 finger swipe). They may just be unifying gestures across their devices.
unlike phone, the iPad kinda needs bezels for ergonomic purposes.

of course, they could still make a bezel-less iPad... who knows.

how does one download the macOS Mojave beta? high Sierra has been the worst release I've used and the fact that the sleep bugs are confirmed being fixed to be faster mades me willing to even try the beta.

I don't see how macOS getting apps from iOS is merging both operating systems.

Craig mentioned it was the start of a multi-year project though. Allowing iOS apps to run on the Mac with minimal code changes just seems like the first step in a long transition to me. They're getting rid of 32-bit macOS apps, transitioning to ARM, etc. I could be wrong but that's the impression I got.

And to be clear I have no issues with this, I think they are handling it in a smart way by being slow and careful. But ten years down the line people are probably going to look at that "Merge? NO!" slide and laugh.

Apple's new "Measure" app which uses augmented reality to measure objects will make it really easy for guys to measure their dicks.

Looking at the UI for apps they've converted from iOS over to macOS they just look like blown up iOS apps with adaption UIs stuck in a macOS frame.

I mean, the Stocks app has the exact same UI as the iPad version. Likewise with the News app I think.

That's some mighty weak logic there. macOS keeps getting more and more exclusive features that have nothing to do with iOS. So one day, they're going to just scrap all of that and replace it with iOS? How would that even work with developers?

- My newest MBP has possibly the best build quality of any Mac I've owned. Not sure what you're talking about.
- I find the touchbar extremely useful, a lot more useful than what it replaces. It's "god-awful" in your view (for some reason), but that isn't an objective assessment. It's objectively much more powerful and flexible than a row of keys, and I make heavy use of the touchbar.
- Stuff soldered to the mobo does not equal lower build quality. Those things are mutually exclusive. That's done for a lot of reasons, including improving both reliability, and reducing hardware footprint.

Like I said.. pretty weak logic. Using some common frameworks between iOS and MacOS in order to simplify development and tighten integration makes sense at every single level, and so does making it easier to port and customize iOS apps. In terms of hardware, Apple has ALWAYS moved towards simplifying and more tightly integrating it's hardware, the MBPs are a natural progression of that.

Rocking a mid-2012 MacBook Air still. I'm ready for something new as well.
Shit I think I have the exact same laptop. Mine was either 11 or 12. 13" with 8 GB ram.

Still runs perfectly but I feel the need for an upgrade.

Also totally undecided on which computer to get. The MacBook probably suits what I need it for but the last I checked it was a little underpowered. The 15" MBP has the specs I want but I don't want to lug that shit around all day.

Actually I can wait, please go slowly, Summer.

I love these iOS and macOS updates. A focus on process improves, UI/UX improvements, and stability/function.
