It's going to happen at some point. The build quality has already gone downhill as far as I'm concerned with Macbook Pros. With everything soldered to the mobo, it's extremely limiting nowadays. And then there's the god awful touchbar.
That's some mighty weak logic there. macOS keeps getting more and more exclusive features that have nothing to do with iOS. So one day, they're going to just scrap all of that and replace it with iOS? How would that even work with developers?
- My newest MBP has possibly the best build quality of any Mac I've owned. Not sure what you're talking about.
- I find the touchbar extremely useful, a lot more useful than what it replaces. It's "god-awful" in your view (for some reason), but that isn't an objective assessment. It's objectively much more powerful and flexible than a row of keys, and I make heavy use of the touchbar.
- Stuff soldered to the mobo does not equal lower build quality. Those things are mutually exclusive. That's done for a lot of reasons, including improving both reliability, and reducing hardware footprint.
Like I said.. pretty weak logic. Using some common frameworks between iOS and MacOS in order to simplify development and tighten integration makes sense at every single level, and so does making it easier to port and customize iOS apps. In terms of hardware, Apple has ALWAYS moved towards simplifying and more tightly integrating it's hardware, the MBPs are a natural progression of that.
