Also, guys there wont be any more ultra beasts. They're just a plot-related name for pokemon from another dimension. Unless Gen 8 continues the ultra wormhole plotline, there isnt gonna be a dedicated "ultra beast" category going forward
Nah, you can't decide from which generation it is by using your abrtitrary rules. You don't decide, GAME Freak does.
They can add a new Pokémon in Let's Go and then consider it native from the next region, part of that regional Dex and displayed on the Bank's National Dex as part of Gan 8.
it doesn't get more phoned in than multiverse plots with bizarro versions of past villains. I hope that stuff is just a one off.

I can't tell if this is serious. Atheerios is right. Whatever regional dex it's part of is what it'll be considered a part of as far as the fan term "generation" goes. Manaphy isn't Gen 3 just because Ranger came out before Diamond/Pearl which you mentioned yourself...
What's to stop the new Pokemon from being a Gen VIII monster like Bonsly in XD?

I hope it isn't a Mythical or Legendary as I find those to be so freaking boring and useless. Who really gets excited for a Mythical/Legendary? Nothing more than box fodder.
I really hope it'll be a Pokémon from gen 8 like a new Eeveelution. I think the Pikachu and Eevee are going to be available in both versions.
Best case you would be able to catch Wild Pikachu and Eevee in Viridian Forest or get one from the building in Celadon like you got Eevee in Pokémon Yellow.
i kinda don't see that honestly. I used to do that but once online trading became a thing, version exclusives never mattered to me personally.
As for Starters in this case. I'm just gonna pick my favorite. Doesn't whatever they announce later

I liked a select few of them, and the idea in general.
EDIT: I don't care for most pokemon either, but as long as there's enough there to really like, it's cool. Same for the ultra beasts.
Buzzwole is the coolest legendary/mythical/ultra beast they've ever made.
It's such a clever idea. It's a mosquito that became swole because it drank too much blood (just like real moquitos swell up when drinking blood). Plus its got a fun personality.
So if it's part of the Kanto Dex, you're going to class it as Gen 1.
Manaphy isn't Gen 3 because Ranger isn't a core game.

I liked the UBs, but I would have liked them more if they were more monstrous (maybe keeping them as non-pokemon boss monsters).
I go back and forth on the Ultra Beasts. They look cool, but they also(intentionally) look radically different from normal Pokemon, and how I feel about that changes day to day. Sometimes I'm like "Hell yeah, it adds to their uniqueness!" and sometimes I'm like "Ehhh they take me out of the game."
I think I'd like them more if they were named something other than Pokemon, like I love the concept of a different type of creature that just happens to be similar enough to Pokemon that can be caught...which I know is sort of what they are, but if they were called as such I'd probably like them more consistently.
Alternatively, if they were named anything but Ultra Beast I'd like them a lot more :P

The problem with Ultra Beasts is the name Ultra Beasts and the lore surrounding them, because they are the same as Pokémon in every way and don't need to be hyped up as special.

It would be neat if you needed like special Pokeballs to catch them, but I guess gameplay balance wise that wouldn't fly.
it was endearing when everything was poke-something. Like pokeball, pokecenter, pokepuffs etc Ultra Holes, Ultra Beasts, Ultra Space sounds like something out of a sonichu fic

I'm mostly looking forward to these but wish they'd included later evolutions from gens 2 and 4.
It would make the total 182 if I've not missed any, add the I believe 6 dark types from Johto to help balance Kanto's lack of dark types would make it 188 total Pokemon in the Pokédex.
The main issue that bothers me though is that they're adding Alolan forms which had they been created in an earlier generation would have been a split evolution like Poliwhirl into Poliwrath or Politoad and Slowpoke into either Slowbro or Slowking. So instead of being able to get a Slowking, I can get an Alolan version of Exeggutor because it wasn't giving a unique Dex number. I'll still enjoy the games but it just seems stupid to me.

Alolan forms not having their own dex entries is a dumb decision imo, agreed that they should've been an alternative evolution line (where possible of course) instead.
I still disagree, this is likely a gen 8 Pokemon and the regional Pokedex in 2019 will tell us. Others are right, you can't just use your own abrtitrary rules.
We could say the same that it's a core game but not a tradition mainline RPG. See, grasping straws works both ways. We just have to wait and see where its stance is.
I guess it depends on the pokedex number it will get.
If it's somewhere in the middle of then gen 8 dex it's definitely a gen 8 preview mon, if it's right after right after Zeraora it could still be either gen.

Not really. It's just a new Pokemon being added to this game that only has the 151 Pokedex and no USUM compatibility, so come gen 8 they could slot it in at the end of the dex as the first gen 8 mythical (or at the start like they did with Victini).
The answer to whether it's a gen 7 or gen 8 pokemon is that we don't know, to claim otherwise is just being full of yourself for no good reason.
I also wish they'd gone full out on giving the Ultra Beasts weird typings, I'm forever annoyed that Xurikitree is not Electric/Grass type for example. As a whole I love the concept though.
I feel the one extra would be a Bird ending in Cero, or MewZero or something. Will be listed at #000 (Victini is only #000 in the Unova dex, otherwise it's #494) and be the ultimate form of pandery pandering.
It might not even have a new number and just be a new form of an existing Pokemon ala Alolan forms.
Like an alternate Mew or something.
