Downloading an update right now, but apparently the eshop was updated with a few new features: Featured tab, Best Sellers list increased to 30 and added digital only filter, deals renamed to "Great Deals", and convenient lists of all games from a developer if you select their name.
Just checked & can confirm this is true. Best Sellers also states at the bottom that they are the games that have been the most downloaded over the past two weeks.

There's also a new search filter where you can only include games that're on sale. I still wish there was a bit of an easier way to see which games have demos without having to go to the search function. Just have something that says "demo available" when I look at the new releases. They have little "pre-purchase" & "##% off" things, why not have one that says "demo available" or something.

Edit: Actually, I see two games that say "Free Demo" & then Pokken has "Demo Available". Please do more of that so I can instantly see if a new demo got added when I look at New Releases.

I was just coming to post this.

It is a nice first step but still a long ways to go. I still would like to be able to have a cart feature and buy more than 1 game at a time.

Good to hear, though I was probably going to get it anyways cause I loved UnEpic so much.
Yeah, Unepic is great. If you like Unepic, then you'll definitely like Ghost 1.0. I think Ghost has a bit wider appeal, since Unepic has some kinda arcane mechanics and things. They're both metroidvanias but they borrow more from Maze of Galious than Super Metroid/SotN.

I don't game on PC so there is no reason for me to look at Steam at all. Is it UnEpic but for range combat?

I don't game on Xbox and I know what is out there in general. It's good to be informed about things outside your comfort zone.

But I digress and Ghost is cool. It's a better game than UnEpic and a good "metroidvania" overall. No "switch tax" I hope because it's not very long.

This new bestsellers section is kind of despressing. What is Yoku doing in 22nd? Fight, Yoku, fight!!

At this point, with so many titles arriving, a fresh/unknown eShop title need a good marketing strategy during the weeks before release to beat the ports of known games and the games with large marketing budgets.

Having the review embargo lift at the launch of a new game is not a good marketing strategy, as they did with Yoku. Another problem is that NoE didn't choose Yoku as a May highlight game (in their May highlight reel), for some reason.

Watch it again.

You must not be in NA because here in America it isn't even on the top 30 Download-Only Best Sellers list.

The game is already the 21st game down on the recent releases list and it just came out a week ago.

At this rate the game will not be on the recent releases page by the end of next week and will just be a ghost. This is where a Genres page would come in handy with a Netflix-style interface.

For all of everyone's bitching about all the new games on Switch being ports, the top 15 Best-Sellers list is dominated with some heavyhitter ports of old games, some very old:

3 Mega Man Legacy Collection 2
4 Mega Man Legacy Collection 1
7 Hyrule Warriors
9 Donkey Kong Country TF
10 Mario Kart 8
11 Street Fighter Anniversary
12 VS. Super Mario Bros.
14 Ikaruga

I just checked and we're also getting the updated eShop in Europe. The new "Discover" tab I'm not sure if it's personalised or not, it's currently showing me only stuff I don't have and all stuff has some tag like "critics choice" (Celeste), "try the free demo" (Sushi Striker), "online game of the week" (Rocket League) among a lot others like FIFA with a discount, or DLC for Xeno 2, and a selection of stuff specifically released in May rescued from the avalanche of new titles every week: Ikaruga, Bloodstained, Runner 3...

Is it just me or do they already do that? Every game with a demo says "Free Demo" on it. I've never come across a demo where the image didn't say it.

I looked through the list via search feature that says "games with demos" & unless you actually select the game to go to its product page or go to said list from the search feature, you won't know if it has a demo or not (that list wasn't even available at launch, they added it in a few months later). The only 3 games where their logo/picture includes something mentioning a free demo is Super One More Jump, Pokken, & Piczle Lines DX.

At the very least, that "Games with Demos" addition had made my complaint much more nitpicky, but it'd be nice if i could just look at New Additions to see if any new games got demos instead of either checking them individually or going to said section. Plus I don't think this problem is exclusive to Nintendo, you have to visit a separate demo section on PSN & XBLA (though XBLA on 360 had EVERY game include a demo, but I don't know if X1 does that). It's mainly just for games that've been out for months get a demo added (Arms, Mighty Gunvolt Burst), but because they're not new, they don't appear at the top, so you have to scroll to the bottom or search for them.

They do one pretty much every year. But definitely lower your expectations for it going off of past year's.
Yeah I know that Nintendo and sales don't mesh well, but given the relatively high price on practically everything on Switch I will gladly accept low discounts. Did Nintendo have 25% off last year ? Or am I too greedy ? ( ' °_°)

Nintendo didn't have any Switch games on sale last year, only Wii U and 3DS games. And NoA only. And only 3 Nintendo 1st party Wii U games (NSMBU, Mario Color Splash, NES Remix) that weren't VC titles.

Regarding 3rd party sales, we now get those sales anyway in weekly doses.

Check the physical releases page, it should be in there.

I logged in on my NoA eShop, and I can't see Yoku anywhere on the top-30 lists. BTW, on my own country's eShop in NoE, Yoku is #18.

What country are you in? That's not the case for me, I've seen the "Demo Available" thing on the picture for a lot of games beyond the ones you mentioned. I'm not near my switch right now to check which ones but I remember it's 100% on PixelMonsters 2.

EDIT: Never mind, apologies I just realised what you mean. All the bigger images for games with demos say it, for example on the Charts or Recently Added page. But the smaller icons on the search page don't. Apologies i didn't remember the smaller ones existed for a moment.

US. I actually just checked & PixelJunk Monsters 2 doesn't mention it on its image, but is in the list when you do a search & check "games with demos." Maybe it's just an American thing, as it sounds like they actually did what I was talking about in a different region, as it'd be nice to just only look at new releases. I also checked the Japanese eShop & same results when I saw PixelJunk Monsters 2.

I don't think that should be a factor to end user.
It should when it clearly shows in the product itself, just like with any other product. The only exceptions to this rule are products that don't accommodate different price ranges, like movies, but that is not the case for videogames.

But let's not derail the thread anymore. Those who think the game is worth the asking price can freely choose to buy, it's their money.

Hmm I'm in UK and I see it on PixelJunk. When I get home I'll try to look what others and maybe get a screenshot. Maybe there are other demos that I've missed because they don't have the icon but I always assumed they all did.

Knowing what is out there on the Xbox is like remembering to breath compared to knowing everything out on Steam. I mean, I don't have any interest in owning an Xbone but I know what games are coming out there.

Regardless and back to the point...I am excited for the game and it is good to hear it is better than UnEpic and it is a fun Metroid game. So excited, probably have no problem with Switch tax unless they go stupid. I imagine it will be similar to Unepic in pricing.

Finished Yoku's Island Express and I felt it was pretty great. Only negative thing I have to say about it is that one of the last abilities you get is kinda hard to control which makes it pretty annoying to use. The rest of the game is super chill so that felt pretty weird to me.

Man I'm really curious to hear how Shaq Fu is. It doesn't look like GOTY material, but maybe it ends up being an alright beat em' up? Would love to hear people on this form give their impressions.

In other news, GalaxyTrail has finally just announced that they are bringing Freedom Planet over to the Switch!
De5S_EvVMAAvdD_.jpg

For those who aren't in the know, this is a 2D platformer from 2014 that's meant to be a love letter to Sega Genesis games like Sonic, Ristar and Gunstar Heroes. Its honestly some of my favorite 2D platformers of all time as the stages are all both smartly designed and exhilarating to get through. You also have 3 different characters to choose from that play way differently to each other. This game also has some of my favorite OST's in the indie scene. I'm super stoked Freedom Planet is coming to the Switch because as much as I loved playing it on the Mac, the keyboard layout wasn't the most ideal control scheme. Switch Joycons should be better for this!

Anyways: Celebratory dancing!

Regarding that ability, there was a post in the Yoku thread that it might actually be easy to control.
Listen to the sound.
Haven't tested it myself yet, though.

So... Anyone try Shaq Fu yet?

I played through the first level, doesn't seem a super long game. I'd recommend it for fans of beat em' up's around the $10/$15 price point, though I'm pretty sure this is a $20 digital title?

I've been genuinely surprised so far. I had little experience with the original game years ago, but this doesn't take itself too seriously, has a zany "plot", really fun and light hearted dialog, and pretty okay fighting. I don't think you can buy upgrades or new techniques, which would put the game at a solid 3/5 to a 4/5 level, again for expectations and this genre in general.

It's better than I thought it would be, or hoped it would be, but at the same time I can't imagine buying it at a $20 price point and feeling grew t about that. That said, I also have the collectors edition coming in the mail sometime, because I'm insane.

It's fun, light, silly, probably in some ways offensive, but also very Shaq laden, which is pretty great actually! There are a lot of fun little quips and jokes, and hopefully no one ruins them by posting about them on here.

Not great, by all means, but I am definitely surprised. Again, unless you're really curious or interested in the legacy of this title/genre, I wouldn't recommend sans a sale.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

By the way, fighting techniques aren't incredibly limited, but they certainly aren't vastly deep either.

I thought this was Ghost Song until I realized it's just some ripoff that even "borrows" the name.

Completely different games, developers and even genres.

And I don't think that an author as well regarded in the indie industry as Francisco Téllez was trying to make any reference to 'Ghost Song'.

To make this clear: he is an important author, with an important and well stablished user base buying his games in the release day.

He doesn't need these type of dirty or exploitative strategies to sell a game.

Even more, while 'Ghost Song' has a clear inspiration taken from the 'Metroid' series, the games from Francisco Téllez have a Konami MSX era influence.

As it was pointed in other message in this thread, his games are clearly influenced by 'Maze of Galious', with some roguelike/randomized elements.

And if this inspiration is not clear enough, you have a MSX spinoff of the same game, created to run in the original hardware of a MSX.

well it can't not since they advertised it as such...

you can't "turn it off" in the traditional way, you have to dial the motion sensitivity all the way down.

OMG. I figured it out before I saw this and I've been playing it non-stop for two days. As a huge fan of both Doom 2016 and Rogue Legacy, I feel this game was made for me. It's like all the fun of Doom 2016 with no stress about dying.

Made progress today at work on potentially becoming a Switch publisher... Many more steps to go, but moving along towards making things happen.
