Pyramids of Mars
This was a good one. Sutekh is a cool villain, who, like Davros, is elevated by a really great performance. There's also this cool effect at the end of part one, where Sutekh's servant appears and everything he touches - whether it's his feet on the ground or his hands on that guy's shoulders - start smoking when he comes into contact. I think this might be Baker's best performance yet. He really sells how utterly scared the Doctor is about Sutekh, and how out of his depth he is in trying to prevent his return. The way he snaps at Scarman's brother for ruining his plan, for instance, perfectly gets across the Doctor's desperation compared to how relatively in control he appears to be in other similarly dangerous situations. The gauntlet of challenges and riddles that keep Sutekh barricaded in the pyramid make for a funky looking setpiece too. If I have one maor issue with this serial, it's that it was hard to keep straight/care about all of the other supporting players running around. But overall, an excellent story, and one of Baker's best.
