I had no idea who Vamos even was after playing the game a few years ago. And even now on NG+ I haven't found him. LOL I will soon.
I knew he existed and I heard him smithing at that Skeleton Wheel pit. So I figured he must be close. He was, but to get to him I had to go back up a couple of floors and descend into a seemingly bottomless pit. The wall, which I thought was an illusionary one, only opened when I literally fell into Vamos' workshop. They could have gone about this a lot better.

Use dung pies on yourself to get Toxic status. The HP drain from the dung pies toxicity is much milder than the one from the blow darts. And since status ailments don't stack, the Toxic from the dung pie has priority. The troll hollows with the Clubs drop them by the dozen, by the way.

There's also the Spider Shield which will be of great aid against the blowdarts. Visit the undead vendor in the passage between the depths and Firelink and stock up on the appropriate Blooming Moss.
Finally, make sure to use the Rusted Iron Ring when you reach the bottom of the swamp. The bog at the bottom of the swamp will poison you but in general I don't even worry about it. Toxic is the effect you want to be wary of.
How many people are gonna have the rusted iron ring before they get to blighttown? I always get it shortly before Sen's. I feel like the Stray Demon is a bit much for someone who only finished the Belltower Gargoyles/Moonlight Butterfly.

The greaest thing for me personally is that people who only played DsII or DSIII will finally learn the true terror of bonewheel skeletons.

Hardest enemies in thr game.

From my friends I only ever heard "They're not no bad".

They only ever played DSIII. :/

Ohhh yeeeah, I do remember hearing the clanking of his hammer in that pit. I think I know the exact wall you're talking about. I wandered around a bit, found nothing, so I figured I'd just move on. Completely forgot about it. Hopefully I don't do that this time!

If they aren't using a guide or asking around? 0%

But he asked so now he knows.

I didn't get it in my first playthrough since I didn't even know you could go back to the Asylum, but this time I got it as soon as I killed the Gargoyles. Stray Demon is not that hard I feel. Easier than Quelaag.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there's an item in the darkness, indicating you can drop down there somehow. You're supposed to use prism stones to figure where the platforms are, but the game doesn't do a good job at suggesting that.

I feel that the new Vamos bonfire can be the bane of anyone who stumbles down there without the Lordvessel.

The weird thing is: when I whaled at that wall I actually killed something standing behind it. No idea what, though. It was empty when I got there and that was after resetting at a bonfire.

No you're right. The problem is you're supposed to drop down on another ledge first, which is completely hidden by the dark. So I repeatedly tried to drop directly down on the ledge with the item, only to fall to my death.

I hadn't even considered the prism stones. But even then, they could've placed a torch on the intermediate ledge to make it a bit clearer what you're supposed to do.

At least Remastered put a bonfire near Vamos which can be warped towards. Apparenty this wasn't there in the original.

I think the way I play this game by now I'm never getting matched with anyone. :(

My first Invader got to me in Oolacile Township at aroubd lvl 80

I think I might even prefer the stupid soul memory system to this equipment based one.

As a summon I usually like to hang back and let my summoner explore, and only go in in emergencies and bosses.

For that I always had a low lvl character at the end game ready.

In my first run in this game though I never saw any summon signs or got invaded, nor got summoned until almost the very end.

Twink invasions in the burg suck, but come on, that's at max a 15 minute diversion! This system makes sure your efforts to sequence break go to waste completely, and the freedom to seek this out is what makes DS1 my favorite game ever.

I'm a little disappointed now that everyone HAS to do a vanilla playthrough to even get a chance to be matched at all. :/

Try using the dried fingers item. It may help.
LOL you troll xD

ChrizzSTARR
definitely do NOT use the dried fingers. You may get 2 invaders at once and it removes the cooldown between invasions.

That drop off to Vamos. Who to hell looked at that and felt it was fair? You can't even see the first ledge you're supposed to drop onto.
Prism stones can help. If you drop one and it "screams", it means the fall is fatal. If it does a mild noise, it's safe.

Though, it's not 100% accurate. Sometimes the damn stone gets "stuck" on the walls and doesn't make the scream, but you can't actually land on that platform and would slip to your death anyway. But it's better than nothing!

Priscilla is a liar. Do not get fooled by her cuteness!

Priscilla is one of the reasons I won't platinum this game. I just won't do it.

I felt bad about Quelaag and Sif, too, but at least they attack you first.

I bought a bunch of them at the beginning of the game and have since forgotten I have them in my inventory, haha. Thanks for the tip. Maybe they will be of use in the Tomb of Giants...

Good timing. I just made it to the painting @ SL51 w/doll. Should I go ahead and enter or mess with it later?

What weapon are you using?

You'll be fine. I did it at around that level. Biggest pain in the butt are the toxic bloated hollows but they are manageable specially if you have ranged attacks.
Black knight sword +4. It's been wrecking, honestly. I don't have any ranged magic and I'm almost out of arrows. I hate dealing with toxin. I don't have more than like 3 of the curable item.

Or kill them with a fire weapon

My main weapon was a fire claymore when i first went in there, so I had no idea they even did the toxic explosion (fire prevents it). When I went back later with different weapons I was pretty confused about why I kept getting toxic

I used my Iaito and backstabbed them. For some reason that never triggered the toxic cloud release.
Probably because you're still in that canned animation (and therefore invincible) while the toxic mist is dispersing.

So these are like the silverbeasts in Bloodborne. Killing them normally make them explode with annoying maggots that attack you, but killing them with fire or a visceral (parry/riposte or backstab) attack doesn't trigger the maggots.

No, the toxic mist didn't even appear in the first place. I only discovered it existed when a backstab failed and I killed one with a normal slash.

As with so many things in this game, because there was nothing to lead you to know it unless you just happened to do it by chance
Well yes but I played this game all the way through like, easily half a dozen times, and used fire weapons before and somehow didn't remember this and... yeah. Been too long since I used fire weapons probably.

Ahhh okay. So yes really just like the Silverbeasts then!

It's more than a pit stop; once you get in the painting there's no way out of it except making it to the boss. Dying, homeward bones... they don't work.
I'm just thinking it probably doesn't take super long to get through. I guess it all depends on the player.

I don't have any fire weapons. I've been really spoiled by my current weapon and haven't branched out like I should. The problem is, my weapon sucks at backstabbing. I suppose I could switch weapons and finish with a backstab.

It took me about two hours, but I collected everything there was to collect before I left. I believe you can be out in 5 minutes if you know where to go and what to do, to unlock the way to the boss.

Don't worry about missing anything if you speedrun it. After O&S you can warp back to the bonfire there.

Yup, the fire burns the toxin and they don't cause the status ailment. At that point in the game I'm powerful enough to not really care though. :/

There is a pretty significant skip in the painted world.

At the first staircase with an archer hollow and the firstt toxin guy you can jump down from the top of the stairs over the railing into the courtyard with the Phalanx enemies to open the shortcut to the bonfire within minutes.

Sounds good. I'm like you in that I'd rather explore and collect. No reason to speedrun and miss out.

I obsess over finding everything possible. 20 hours and just about to ring second bell. Choosing Master Key as gift doesn't help either -.- since I can go more places.

These games fucking consume me, I need to start Detroit ...

Ah right that was it. I forgot you could not immediately access the courtyard if you played the level 'properly'.

I could be wrong, i'd check into it.
I remember you lose a rank everytime you choose another covenant, I guess derank got "fixed"

*Note: You can leave the covenant after opening the shortcut to Lost Izalith, and it will remain open. However, leaving before doing so means that you cannot open the door until you become Chaos Servant +2 again.*

So you can still have the door open but you have to open it before leaving the covenant.

It's basically a safety blanket for that area to have easy access to the bonfire. :P

Also, Tomb of the Giants changes dramatically depending on how you tackle it. Blind? Skull lantern?
Sunlight Maggot
?

Edit: That mobile keyboard is a nightmare to work with in longer texts...O.o forgive me if you encounter a jumbled mess of characters instead of an English word....>.<

Or the German autocorrect equivalent...:(

Yeah, this playthrough is the first time I did the painted world and when she said that I'm like,

200w.gif

I didn't realize she had a rare weapon from her tail, so I'll have to go back in new game+ to grab it. She is no Sif.

*Note: You can leave the covenant after opening the shortcut to Lost Izalith, and it will remain open. However, leaving before doing so means that you cannot open the door until you become Chaos Servant +2 again.*

So you can still have the door open but you have to open it before leaving the covenant.

This is correct, I opened the shortcut with rank two and left the covanent for warrior of sunlight. The shortcut was still open when I proceeded with Solair's side quest. As long as you go to the shortcut's door and open it, it'll stay open the rest of the playthrough no matter your rank or covenant status.

Is there a trick to parrying? I literally don't think i've ever executed a legit parry in this game. Are you supposed to press L1 right before the attack hits you? I'm using the Spider Shield and guys will hit it and stagger a bit but that's not parrying, right?
