Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Release date announcement doesn't seem likely. I mean, at this point there is a very real possibility that the game isn't even at E3. Release date announcement seems unlikely, at least anything beyond them maybe confirming it's a 2019 release if they've somewhat locked down that 2019 is the year. KHIII hasn't gotten a date and that's possibly releasing in less than 6 months.
I'll bet anything that the number "2019" will be on that trailer.

In case you haven't apprehended, I'm very much in the Cloud-Aerith camp so I always end up on the date with her (just personal preference); but having said that I usually finish with the high affection Highwind scene also as I like Tifa a lot too.

Edit: PS: The points are

Aerith: 50
Tifa: 30
Yuffie: 10
Barret: 0
I've definitely noticed! It would be nice if they expanded on the dates themselves and change it up a bit so they all aren't the same but with different dialogue. They could all still end with the gondola ride but it would be nice that instead of doing the same play that you do with Aerith, the others ask for different things. For instance, Tifa could ask if they can go Chocobo racing (which could be a call back to how you can race with her in the original), Barret and Cloud might together in the battle square, and Yuffie and Cloud go play games in the Wonder Square. They really have a nice opportunity to make each date unique and tailored to each character.

Decent idea, except for Cloud and Barret's date being in Battle Square which wouldn't elicit the cognitive dissonance of the original which made it so funny and memorable.

AC in a nutschell

Cloud: I bring only death to those I love, I am going to hide away even though it will only bring worry to the one I am closest to

Tifa: that's dumb

Cloud: I seek forgiveness for their deaths. It is my fault

Ghost Aerith: that's dumb. not ur fault m8

Cloud:oh............... I am not worth being happy

Marlene: it's time to stop

Cloud: k *fights sephiroth*

Ghost Zack: quit sucking man, you're the MC

Cloud: oh right. I love everyone!

*power of friend ship kills sephiroth and cures the world of Geostigma*

Cloud: I'm good

Tifa: *nods*

Ghosts: *nods and walks away*

*cue credits of Cloud enjoying a bike ride through scenery not present ever in either FF7 or AC*

Literally better than watching the movie.

Depends. If it's a desperate "look, this game actually exists!" while they are still struggling with aspects of development and showing the bare minimum, nah. If the project is actually progressing smoothly and FFVIIR has a relatively big showing, maybe.

Nah, I think you can still make it entertaining and even up the 'bromance' of it all. Like, I wouldn't want them to just go into the Battle Square and fight. Instead, when they get there, something happens, hijinks ensue (maybe Mukki and his friends from the Honeybee Inn show up or something) etc, etc. before they go on the gondola ride which can remain like the original.

Ah, sorry. Didn't see your idea that they could all end up on the gondola in your first message till now. Much better!

Looks like the Walmart leak is real.

Which means I shall play this on my glorious X1X.

Which also means we will probably get a release date or time frame.

Which means I need to go change my pants, brb...
It was always coming to Xbox, so that doesn't mean a whole lot to me, but I am believing more and more it will be there. Setting myself up for disappointment I guess, but who cares.

yeah it has pretty good chance considering how Team Ninja made Dissidia NT.

I will give props to DOA for actually dialing back its boobcentric origins. We're in this bizarre timeline where Street Fighter V has more pandering female designs at this point.

I still think having Tifa show up in Street Fighter would be awesome, especially with all the promos of her facing off against Chun-Li, but at this point DOA does make more sense.

honestly I am not sure if I will like Tifa in SFV aesthetics. I like SFV's artstyle in it's own, but bringing something like FF character would feel weird to me, especially with those huge hand/feet size. But for games like Tekken/Soul Calibur/DOA they can virtually keep the same artstyle. She would fit perfectly for either Tekken or DOA both visually and fighting style.

At the risk of throwing this thread off-course again (which really went astray long before this tbf anyway), how come you moved so far in the opposite direction that you ended up referring to yourself as an ex- "filthy Cloud x Aerith shipper", until yesterday that is?

tl;dr the essay was very persuasive, despite the author labeling CloTi fans as "rabid" =.='

Filthy was just me being cheeky, but I did fall out of favor with the Clerith ship because the compilation (the movie & CC prequel) fleshed out Zack and Aerith's relationship. I didn't play CC, so I can't comment on that; however, I did follow it at arms-length and it seemed to me to be the more natural pairing since they were both the chipper type and are now both in the Lifestream. I believed in a lot of the points that the author of the Clerith page spent excruciating detail debunking (e.g. likes Zack, never knew real Cloud, etc.).

This was compounded by a recent fanfic I read that supported that pairing ('cuz Cloud jumps back in time when they were both alive and tries to kill Sephiroth). Add to the fact that Tifa is awesome, and CloTi seemed to lend itself into existence.

Keep in mind it's been many years since I played the game AND I wasn't in the frame of mind to catch all those details. But I critically examined that essay and it raises a lot of good points with sufficient evidence to back it up. I'm a logical guy and I like it when claims are substantiated. Obviously you can't talk about love logically, so at the end of the day what got to me was how much Cloud cared about Aerith (way more than I thought) and how much Aerith cared about Cloud (way more than I thought). My initial reading of the game and the characters were superficial. I didn't have thoughts much more complex than "oh, she's interested" and "hey, he seems interested".

When you see things like, "If this smile costs only one gil, it is a good purchase," or "but Cloud is Cloud. I, now undoubtedly, love Cloud much more than Zack," (ouch, sorry Zack) or "seeing Cloud and Aerith developing their world together," (ouch, sorry Tifa), it tugs at my heart strings in all those intangible ways.

Regarding Tifa, I agree with the author's assertion that Cloud and Tifa are (less) compatible with each other despite the author's ridiculous anti-Tifa bias. They're going to need WAY more work to make the relationship work because both are introverted, closed-off, and needing a strong emotional bulwark to support them. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it doesn't come as naturally as Aerith who has enough emotional gumption to support the both of them. Make no bones about it, Cloud acts downright rude to Tifa in the OG game ('til she reconstructs his identity), in Case of Tifa (compilation shenanigans), in ACC (compilation shenanigans), and in KH2 (hrm...). At times it seems borderline one-sided and Tifa has to keep inserting her presence into his perspective less she falls behind.

All the talk about how the remixed songs from the OST will be, when I'm much more interested to hear the brand new tracks Uematsu may bring to the table.

New! A whole thread on the FF7R Reddit page on SEscooper! Says s/he'll "eat a dog turd" if proven wrong come next week ...!

"FF VII Remake will have a heavy presence. A trailer. A release window. Which I may have been wrong about. Everything I had been told pointed towards late 2019. May actually be early spring 2019 if not sooner. FF Remake Project. VIII will be announced as entering development. Project is an umbrella project where SE is going back and remaking the PS1 main line FF games. A formal IX announcement will come later down the road. Likely after VII Remake is approaching its end."

Follow it below, I'm guessing the thread may grow over the weekend:

Nomura was publicly asked about remaking the other PS1 titles, he specifically said he wasn't interested. https://venturebeat.com/2015/06/17/...asy-remakes-but-not-from-the-playstation-era/ Obviously he's not in charge of Square Enix, but i don't think he would have said that if he knew they were planned.

Also keep in mind that Square Enix publicly admitted that they're struggling to recruit enough HD developers, that doesn't bode well for this game miraculously being finished just a couple of years after having to move the project in house.

That's literally from three years ago, much has changed since then. For instance Uematsu was not a part of FF7R back then (or at least said not to be) and now they've made a complete 180 U-turn on that (at least publically; he may have been part of it all along just as an umbrella FFR project may have been planned all along in private).

Not saying I believe the rumours necessarily; I just find the hype train, turds and all, hilarious. Can't wait to see whether SEscooper turns out to be a living legend or nemo next week.

This would be more believable if 7R was only just one game. They'd get to the 9 remake in like... 2034. Not even exaggerating there.

FFVIII and FFIX Remakes won't happen...

For god sake they have been working on FFVII Remake PART ONE SINCE 2014!!!

4 years later we only had ONE in game trailer 3 years ago and that's all.

But I think there is a high chance for a trailer next week with a 2019 as a release window.

He can eat all the turds he wants, there's no way they'll focus on remakes that heavily. Not on the scale of 7R, at least.

Not that I believe the rumours but I don't really see the correlation between the lack of news in the last few years, your optimism that a 2019 release window is forthcoming for FF7R, and therefore that FF8R will not happen. What's the connection?

2019 release date would be believable if CC2 had stayed on it and development had been going smoothly. I'd be astonished if Square Enix was able to turn BD1 into a AAA studio and build a AAA JRPG from the ground up in just a couple of years, it would literally be the most impressive development accomplishment of the entire generation. Building a AAA game from the ground up usually takes 4-6 years.

yeah that ff remake project seems way out of scope. but let me entertain the idea for a quick minute:

ff8 was wack but i'd fully look forward to seeing squall's cheekbones in hd. assuming of course they stick with his og design, and not that dissidia shit
ff9 on the other hand i can fully get behind

Cloud/Aerith was the good shit. I still to this day don't fuck with Tifa (AC version is fresh to death clothing-wise though, that outfit was amazing).

I always felt like she painted their relationship as kids in a little bit of a better light while she was telling him half-truths to "not hurt him" so that she could get in good now that she had the hots for him.

To this day I have still never seen the high affinity Highwind scene because that involves caring about Tifa lol.

Indeed but that's because 8 and 9 are much smaller in scale than 7, especially 8. They could quite easily be stand alone remakes (not saying I necessarily believe SEpooper. I mean scooper.)

Square Enix doesn't have enough devs for the games they already have in development. There's just not that many HD developers in Japan because so many have been focused on mobile and Nintendo hardware the last 10 years.

If it's 20 hours storyline plus 10-15 side quests etc (which would mean Midgar only) and the 2nd Act was stretched out to be massive, I wouldn't really care that much. In any event story wise and in terms of the depth of the world, FF7 is clearly the one with most substance out of the Ps1 era. Especially over 8.

SEpooper says that Production would begin on 8R soon, so maybe another outsource job like CC with 7R initially, and that 9R will be announced after 7R is done freeing up devs (years down the road).

Because mate FFVIII and FFIX will take almost the same efforts and time and recourses as FFVII, these three games have the same amount of detailed world with dengues and big cities and many villages and areas.

It will take them almost a decade to develop FFVII Remak and that after dividing it into Trilogy as they have implied.... so when will they even start on FFVIII and FFIX and which teams will take the responsibility of remaking such two huge games?

Also the demand for their ramakes ain't even close to Colossus one FFVII had specially because of what a lot consider an outdated graphics specially the characters models in game... things FFVIII and FFIX don't suffer from as much as FFVII... heck the recent FFIX HD Remaster looks pretty darn good!!

So simply.. unnecessary.
