Welp missed that! Will rewatch.

That hasn't actually been shown on the TV series yet.

explanation for Julie's strength:
She has black-market adrenaline implants that she can activate by swirling her tongue over the roof of her mouth in a certain pattern. This gives her "mother lifts car to save trapped baby" strength, but it's followed by an immediate crash after it dissipates, leaving her completely incapacitated.

In relation to the above spoiler, a small addendum that adds to her character's behaviour:
her constant crying is a direct side effect of the emotional crash after using the implant.

So Julie's sister knows about the protomolecule, but she thinks her father was trying to warn everything else? I guess she doesn't know that her father was instrumental in weaponizing the protomolecule, so she's misguided in her attempt to take Holden down? Or am I missing something?

From the flashback, Clarissa was never good enough in her fathers eyes. Julie was the favorite even as she defied him. The Maos lost everything and she blames Holden. She is trying to prove herself to her father and has nothing left to lose.

Deadline with some backstory on the Amazon pickup: Amazon Studios Boss On How 'The Expanse' Was Saved
The Expanse pickup announcement followed an elaborate fan campaign that included renting a plane to fly a #Save The Expanse banner over the Amazon headquarters. It was made in a dramatic fashion by Amazon's chairman himself, Jeff Bezos, at National Space Society's International Space Development Conference in Los Angeles where he was an honoree an hour or so afterThe Expanse cast and showrunner did a panel at the same event.

"There were airplanes circling us, I was having cakes delivered, there was a whole thing happening," Salke said of The Expense campaign. "And then really smart people, whose opinions I really value creatively, started reaching out to me, saying, "have you seen this show, The Expanse, it's actually great". I hadn't so I spent some time, I watched the show and I was like, this show is actually really well done, why is nobody watching it? At the same time, Jeff Bezos was getting emails from everyone from George R.R. Martin to every captain of industry, like the founder of Craigslist, and they were all writing, saying, there's this show, it's so great, you have to see it, you have to buy it or save it.

We were trying to explore the deal, and we could make the U.S. deal pretty easily because they were kind of just standing outside, holding it out to us. We had it pretty much done when (Bezos) emailed saying, "I'm at an event, a space seminar, I'm looking at the cast of The Expanse here, I would like to get up there and order the show. Can I, can I?" I was like, let me check with business affairs, and then replied, you can do it, go for it. It was so fun to watch it on Twitter Live; I could see him do it in real time.

So, yes, he's a big fan, and it was fun to be able to support that, not just for him but for all the people that really love that show. (New co-head of TV) Vernon (Sanders) really loved the show, and so he was saying, we can make that show into something. A lot of really smart people said they loved the show, and I actually appreciated it once I looked at it.

I am enjoying this show a ton. Chrisjen is awesome, love her voice (went to listen in Mass Effect). Love the diversity in the cast. Love that the story moves pretty fast.
Should I read the books? My worry is that sprawling fantasy/sci-fi book series always end up a bit shit/repetitive (it's very hard to make a universe as rich as ours, which leads to constant repetition in plot lines or massive deviations that alienate book readers). Also I kind of like the show version of the story...

They haven't said. The wait for previous seasons was typical though. You usually don't get previous seasons until the next one is about to air.

I feel like s3 should upload immediately since Amazon has the show now.

My friend who is kind of broke is going through withdrawals after watching the first two seasons on prome video lol

How big is the Dandelion Sky? The show seems to imply it isn't really that big, since Holden was worried about reaching the other side of the sphere.

It must be really packed full in its old days...

On the podcast the authors said it was the size of the sun.

So around 1.400.000 km in diameter. Considering the speed limit of 600 km/s Holden should not be worried about reaching the other side too soon, it would take 27 days to travel across.

Edited: by the way, if Hub Station is on the center of the Dandelion Sky it would take at least 13 days for Holden to reach it. How it is addressed on the books?

Alot of little time skips, and I think in the books the Roci is much closer to the center orb, than the show.

Man they really need that Amazon budget next season, this slowzone looks awful.

Plus I wasn't a fan of how they did the edges of this location with green glow thing. I originally imagined it was just going to be an absolutely black starless environment with one lightsource illuminating everything.

It's described as exactly that in the books. A completely black starless void.
