Any thoughts on the third character on the cover? It looks like he's holding a threaded cane like from Bloodborne.

Reckon if Nero will get his arm back, the mech arm is fine and dandy, but man i hope he gets the devil bringer back

How, the van/truck literally said devil may cry 5...

The trailer was literally doing rapid cuts of the neon Devil May Cry sign with rapid cuts of movement and action coming from the left side of the frame. If they wanted people to catch the 5, they should have been drawing the viewer's eye to the right side of the frame instead.

Maybe they should have focused the trailer on the new playable character, with Dante at the end to show that it's still the same timeline? That would help a lot with all of the "goddamn it everything looks different" first impression. I hope it's a girl.

No way. Nero was a great pick to start off with. Having it focus solely on the new character wouldn't give me a good baseline to work with as to how combat's going to change in DMC5. Seeing Nero back with a Snatch, Buster, and the Red Queen largely intact from DMC4 tells me that the game is probably not going to be a reinvention of DMC4's combat mechanics which, cool. But then to see all the new tools he gets off his plug-and-play arms including a Round Trip, a Wild Ride, a ridiculous shockwave attack and a time slow mechanic as part of his kit tells me that all the time in development would be well spent.

I couldn't get that with a whole new character, and honestly without a UI I don't know how much we could really glean from any Dante footage right now beyond confirming individual style moves were in.

Hahaha, I was thinking that DMCERA who were betting on a Sony conference reveal missed out...

Nah. Coming back to my computer after taking a long nap to find half my friend's list screaming incoherently at me about DMC and trying to check in at ResetERA only to find the website was knocked offline from DMC hysteria was still pretty hype.

As someone who is not a big fan of the franchise (Only played 4), I think it looks beautiful. Why people are so mad and say it looks like shit?

Because they DARED to suggest their husbandos may have aged in the ten years since we've last seen them.

During the trailer right after Nero runs up the wall before he gets his arm grabbed by the mysterious man in his garage is a split frame of Vergil. I had to slow it down using my iphones slow mo effect, but I don't know how to convert it onto here.

TLDR

Vergil face is in the trailer.

We got some theories.

We think its a medium for Vergil (the 3rd character is referred to as the Mysterious V). It's possible that Vergil can't really survive in his corrupted current body for too long so needs a new host of sorts. Most probably to exercise any remnants of Nelo Angelo. The guy has tattoos, left bracelet and sandal with a rapier/cane like weapon, seems more suited for a summoner/sorcerer type character. So it's a "new" character in the physical sense but might be possessed or linked with Vergil in some way. Through some leaks the character might have same demon summoning abilities as well.

The ACTUAL Vergil was in fact seen messing up Nero in the trailer.

it's from the game...There isn't anything similar to him, even the haircut is different. Donte is trimmed sideways and with an overall punk aesthetics Nero doesn't have. Donte has an actual trench-coat whereas Nero is wearing an extended leather jacket too. Even their face structures are world apart.

Nero and Ninja Theory Dante really don't look all that similar unless we're going for the "all white guys look the same" argument.

They're clearly using the same engine/artstyle for the characters in DMC5 that they used for RE7.

Yeah, I really like this theory.

I think Nelo Angelo with Devil Arm could be one tough SOB to fight, so they might need all of the 3 guys to beat him.

My precious Nero, what have they done to you? You used to look so dignified, no you look like a trashbag. Vergil would be disappointed in the state of his son now.

Who thought tattoos and smoking in my DMC was a good idea?
Nero was always a fuckboi. He's just a 2018 version of one now:

At least this time he doesn't look like a carbon clone of Dante.

I hate to complain as I'm just happy we're getting another mainline DMC but man, Nero looks like he went from 19 in DMC4 to like 35-40. Dante looks 50+ imo, lol. The graphics/effects are amazing but man, the faces look pretty wretched with certain expressions.

When watching live I literally thought it was Scalebound for a second, and then a DmC2 that MS funded or something. The new designs are gonna take some getting used to.

Edit: I need to read more often. Nero is 29 now, which is obviously enough time to age his face significantly.

The fanboy in me wants some Bayonetta references in this, like Dante referencing that he fought witches or something, something as a set up for the TOTALLY happening DMCxBayo crossover. Ya know?

For some reason I expected that if we got a DMCV that Kyrie aka Orihime would be completely ignored. Don't know why I thought that so it was weird to me when Cody Rhodes said her name, "oh she's actually back".

There's a bunch of them on Gamepass atm, 4 in a bunch then a single remake of the 1st one? Kinda confusing keeping up with who made what and what ones to avoid, but i reckon ill start at 3 now you mention it! :D
In my opinion the ones that are worth playing are DMC 3, DMC 4, and DmC (Reboot). If you liked 3 then move on to 4, if you didn't then try the reboot. It streamlined some annoying things in the old series. I would skip DMC 1 and DMC 2, they aren't fun to play anymore. They aged rather badly.

Its obvious.

Avoid forever: DMC2

Play after 1,3, and 4: DmC by Ninja Theory

DMC1 by Capcom is the game that kicked off the whole stylish action subgenre. Its gameplay no longer feels modern but it's still a well balanced and awesomely challenging title with top notch art design and the best enemies in the series. This is the game that defines the series' tone, with Dante's cocky attitude in the face of peril and severe injury contrasting the deadly serious demons he encounters on his adventure.

DMC2 changes everything that makes DMC1 a classic, ruining the gameplay and totally overwriting Dante's personality. Mediocre at its very best. Avoid.

DMC3 resurrected the series, restored Dante's brash attitude, and cemented Devil May Cry's status as the go-to franchise for insanely deep action gameplay coupled with a purposely ridiculous mixture of hyper-stylish presentation and high drama. Arguably the high point of the series so far.

DMC4 builds on DMC3's combat system to provide a level of depth that's just plain impenetrable to the average player. The weapons and bosses aren't as good as DMC3, but the basic enemies are an improvement, and the special edition gives you three extra playable characters who are all awesome. The story mode is marred by a weird backtracking structure and the story is just OK, but the point of the game is combat and in combat it excels. Good thing there's an arena mode.

The only one you actively avoid is DMC2, unless you really want to know. The rest are worth playing. I'd go release order, since a new player going back to 1 after playing 3/4 might be weird. DmC Devil May Cry is totally worth playing as well if the Definitive Edition is what's available on Game Pass.

Were those songs in the trailer Jamie Christopherson? They sounded a lot like the MGR OST.
It's Ali Edwards.

My guesses re: Nero would be he loses the arm in the beginning goes to Nico (who he's probably worked with to maintain Red Queen and Blue Rose as part of his business) to make the prosthetic arm that behaves the same way as Devil Bringer was and she throws in some extra features like the rocket and electric blast stuff.

Then at some point in the game I'd wager he has an actual awakening to his demon side, compared to the kinda weird one in DMC4, where his arm reacts to Yamato, absorbs it and he begins using Vergil Angelo as his Stand instead of having a traditional Devil Trigger like Dante and Vergil.

I'm just going nuts thinking about where they can go with Dante in this game though, people have pointed out how the motorcycle seems very demonic and with iirc the rumors talking about how the game's open world we can probably have Dante motorcycle combo shenanigans if Nero's rocket punch riding is anything to go by.
