Or some people thinking CD PROJEKT RED can do no wrong.

Until they fuck up majorly a game they release and people dont enjoy it, or start doing shitty anti consumer things, they will always have the benefit of the doubt for any sane person.

There are themes and atmosphere about a genre, which makes it unique. Cyberpunk is a sub-genre of science-fiction, which has a specific theme, atmosphere and messages. If you remove the pessimism and grayness from Cyberpunk, you're left with science-fiction.

And that's how the Cyberpunk 2077 looks for me and many other people in the trailer: a dystopia, science-fiction game. It doesn't captures the tune of Cyberpunk, which is disappointing, if the title of the called "Cyberpunk".

The sun never shines in many Cyberpunk stories, not because it doesn't exists, but because it creates the right mute for its kind of story.

lol, and this is after multiple posts showing how its based on cyberpunk 2020, you know, one of the many cyberpunk different media out there and working with his creator. Stay watching blade runner, this game is not for you.

Also you sound like Mr Burns with that last line.

I don't really know about that

That's the protagonist's jacket. So maybe you can pick a different character/make your own.

It was confirmed by CDPR in the secret message of the trailer, so yes!

On a side note, I have to say that as a white thirty-something man with a shaved haircut I find a bit disheartening how half of this forum is constantly low key insulting me as an intolerably generic person.
Lmao holy shit. Of all the ridiculous posts in this thread, this one is the worst. Get a grip on yourself. So sorry that you're overrepresented in almost every medium. How can it be so hard for you to understand that other people would like to also see themselves in media and it's not a fucking direct attack on you personally oh my god.

I think its less about the daylight and more about the main characters voice being too snarky and high pitched

I have no experience of Cyberpunk but this isn't the sci-fi universe I've been creating in my imagination for the last 35 years therefore it's a terrible game.

And the Jacket is a direct riff on a costume worn in art for the 2020 Board Game.

EDIT: Woah - today I learned Snowpiercer is considered Cyberpunk - buh, buhhhh, it's got Snow and is set in the daylight! *faints*

The idea that all cyberpunk as to look like Blade Runner or it isn't accurate or true to the genre is embarrassing. What about Ghost in the Shell? That has a completely different aesthetic and is another hallmark of the genre

A lot of "that's not the way I want ciberpunk aesthetic" posts. Jesus, gamers really are a toxic community sometimes.

The game looks superb and I love CD Projekt R take some spin on the Blade Runner aesthetic. It's refreshing and fun and still with some dark tone here and there

The more I read here the more disappointed I am by the way this discussion panned out

Witnessing people literally post "well how can I tell it's a sci-fi dystopia (if it doesn't look exactly like Blade Runner)???" is just the saddest thing. Show some imagination. Read a book. Read a comic. There's more than just God damn Dredd and Blade Runner out there.

Ugh, when E3 is over I just know one of you is going to post a thread wondering why Cyberpunk isn't gritty enough for you (aka not Blade Runner) and it's gonna be the worst thread ever

Watched the trailer again. It looks fine. Kinda preferred the moodier reveal trailer. Is there a list of deets about the game yet? I guess that'll come later after the behind closed doors demo.

I liked the trailer, on a casual viewing it almost looks like a dream then more you look more you see the world is a nightmare.

I think everyone saying it should follow they style and aesthetic set by Bladerunner without deviation have created a whole new genre "Cyberconformist"

I'm really glad that they didn't forget the Punk in Cyberpunk. Looks exactly as I imagined it, and I really like the subtle 80's vibes.

This screen shot oozes Cyberpunk to me. It could be set in Akira, Ghosts in the Shell, Deus Ex, or hell even Blade Runner. Even gives me a Gemini Rue (awesome game btw) vibe but obviously a million times more graphic fidelity. It is also a direct reference to the cover of the Cyberpunk 2020 core rulebook.
Yeah, that image looks amazing. Seems to be the main character as well going by the jacket. Loved that scene in the trailer.

Hell, loved the entire trailer.

If cyberpunk = Blade Runner noir for people, how do you consider a book like Snowcrash?
That reminds me, Snowcrash also has a lot of humorous/satirical elements, which some people seem to be suggesting this trailer completely lacks. It's this which can possibly give off the GTA vibes. While I personally expect CDPR to handle the material well, I can see why some might be a bit apprehensive about that (as someone who doesn't like GTA's storytelling). But yeah this is still within the realms of cyberpunk, just not the super moody and serious tone of Blade Runner (and it may very well cover that ground too).

Perhaps Blade Runner, et al leans more into the Neo-Noir aspect of, than the hair-mullet, Mad Max come Guitar Hero aspects that the board game originally portrays?

PS: And in that sense, even something like Lawnmower Man would be considered Cyberpunk.

So glad we didn't just get a cliche'd Blade Runner reskin--that aesthetic has become tired. Really love what I see here.

I guess a lot of folks wanted Blade runner: the video game. Certainly that is very appealing premise. I would've loved to pay that but at the same time it's great that CD project is carving out their own identity in the sub-genre. It's better to defy people's expectations some times and give them something they didn't even know they wanted.

Making terrible assumption, discrediting a opinion you don't like and just reading things, that are not there. Clearly shows, that people here are arguing in bad faith.

But to make my last sentence clear for people, who can't read properly. I said most stories have grim weather, to create the right mute. Which literally doesn't mean all of them. My main point was the mute. Many stories, movies and games can create the right mute even without the typical bad weather. But the trailer just didn't get the mute right.

I understand, what they were trying to do with the trailer: "Just another Tuesday in Night City." I just don't like the direction of the tune, which could be the goal of the game. They can do what they want and i don't say, that people can't enjoy it. It just isn't the direction, i was hoping for.

Just catching up with the thread. It's looking possible that there will be a character creator or in the very least choose between a male or female protag. This is great news.

It was actually intended as a joke, but given this attitude you can genuinely fuck off, as far as I'm concerned.

i really like the default look of V, he just fits the setting very well so if my selfmade gosling officer K doesn't look good when i make him in the CC i'll gladly stick to default V (and make a female mc on my second playthrough)

I'm glad I'm not the only person who was just a little let down by the trailer. Sorry if that makes me "not a true cyberpunk fan" or some horse shit, but yeah, it just wasn't the tone I expected. This reminded me of Watch Dogs 2 meets GTA a little too much. I was hoping for something more like the Prey 2 that was cancelled mixed with....that movie...mixed with the vibe the original teaser gave off and maybe the opening of Akira.

Still hyped, just not as much as I want to be.
