Super Mario Party
Pokemon
Smash

3 of Nintendo's best-selling franchises are releasing in the next 6 months. Retro's game would be overshadowed if it release in 2018 ( I'm referring to sales). Will be much better for Nintendo a 2019 release.

People assuming this is not true because it wasn't shown ..
Then I guess Nintendo entire future line up for 2019 is Bayo 3, Yoshi, MP4 and Fire Emblem and that's it right ?
I mean, Animal Crossing, 2D Zelda, 2D Mario, Wave Race were a no show, so they don't even exist right ? Right ?

If this is real, Nintendo probably wanted to keep the spotlight on Fox in Star Link.

With that said, I doubt this is a game coming before May.2019, or they would have demo'd it.

Wouldn't surprised if 2019 is for Yoshi, Fire Emblem, and Star Fox Racing where 2020 is for Bayo 3 and Metroid Prime 4.

In all seriousness a Starfox racing spinoff sounded like a terrible idea, and this is coming from someone who loves Starfox.

Maybe they just re-tooled it into an F-zero game like it should have been from the start. Fox could still be a playable racer I guess.

There is a ton of stuff that could have been talked about on the Nintendo end, but wasn't for some reason.

I don't get it.

Stuff for this year?

Yeah.

Guess they decided to double down on Smash and Pokémon for this year.

It would make sense I guess if that's all they really have for this year, but if there is more this year then I'm not sure why they want to double down on Smash and Pokemon, yeah.

Very strange.

This is getting ridiculous Retro. Almost 5 years since TF and still nothing. This racing game better be mindblowing. Or it better actually be Eternal Darkness.

I wonder if there are any problems at Retro. Looked them up on Glassdoor earlier and things don't look so good.

E3 is just a spotlight for a major title for Nintendo now. Any time they want to reveal any other game, they do a direct. Just start thinking of e3 as a direct.

AFAIK, there are some things that could be released this year, but might be held for drier periods.

Recent Nintendo seems to disagree. 3rd E3 in a row that they have more or less decided to focus on One Mega title.

E3 is just a marketing platform - the only reason to show titles more than 9 months off is to drum up interest in the console / ecosystem as a whole which Nintendo clearly don't think is needed as they believe strongly enough in their current offerings. Therefore they have focused on marketing the games that are coming out in the near future or titles already released.

The opposite of this is Microsoft who are trying to convince people to buy into the ecosystem/platform by pushing gamepass / studio acquisitions / games years off because they don't believe what they have to offer currently is enough.

Thats how I see it anyway

Anyone think that Nintendo might have pulled a few things saying the Sony and Microsoft press conferences? If MS and Sony announce next-gen consoles next year which they likely will Nintendo probably wants to have a few huge guns lined up to pull attention back to them.

No. Nintendo has never really cared what Sony and Microsoft do.

This really felt like a regular Direct, and that's the thing, it was promoted as such with the Direct title and spotlight on one title even though it was E3. I guess they thought Smash would overshadow any other big title, so may as well save their other stuff for future Directs?

For example, if the Star Fox game is doing well, it could be announced during Fall for an early 2019 release.

There are going to be periods drier than now??

This is expected. You have teams that developed major blockbusters from last year, working on it for 3 to 4 years, to get a 97 on the Metacritics list, and they're now developing their next games. And then some of the teams are working with GaaS season passes and online features. Of course there will be several dry spells leading up to the next releases from them.

When i read the internet reactions it seems like 2018 would be already dry and for big first party releases it's not that packed at least. One would think 2019 would be good on its own (Metroid, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, more 3rd party games from japan), if it's ports or remaster they could release them now and make new for 2019.

Personally i would think they put Yoshi next year because they would have something else like NSMB U Port (that was rumoured heavily). I mean even a Zelda SS or Mario 3D World port would help to calm some people down. It certainly doesn't look they are giving their best.

Also no sign of life from Metroid Prime (besides Smash), i mean they teased it already, even if it's 2019 they should have known people would expect that game to be shown for a few seconds.

This is something I've been saying for a while. They clearly have enough games to show, whether they have a great E3 just depends on what they decide to show.

How is there any way that 2019 is dry though, with everything we know AND Yoshi and FE being pushed back? I can't imagine it being drier than this year at all

Well said.

Called it few hours before the Direct: my theory is that someone watched Fox Mccloud in Starlink and thought that was the new Star Fox made by Retro. Plus as i pointed many times, unlike Metroid Prime 4 made by Bamco, here we haven't seen a real leak, nothing.

These websites that confirm these rumors are just doing it for the clicks, it happens everytime regardless of the rumor.

It sucks for us cause they've been hyping this thing that doesn't even exist for months.

Maybe "they are doing just for the clicks" is too rough but they want to be part of the conversation even when they don't really have sources to confirm these rumors.

As i posted yesterday on the Nintendo E3, leakers should be more cautious cause hyping things for months to then tweet "low expectations, nothing we have talked is real" the day before is just toxic.

Their conferences had absolutely no effect on Nintendo's plans
Wait, people here actually believe Sony's 4 game conference where 3 of the games don't even have a DATE and Microsoft's 3rd party multiplatform extravaganza has an effect on Nintendo at all?

Jesus I can't believe some devs actually post on these forums, the ignorance is insufferable.

All signs have pointed to Nintendo having quite a few games to talk about still. Nintendo does Directs ALL YEAR LONG. Nintendo is also showing off Smash, a franchise that always outsells Zelda, that game they dedicated an entire E3 to before. Smash, Pokemon, and Mario Party just this year in the next six months? FE which was recently moved to early 2019 which on its own will absolutely decimate Japan?

The onus isn't on Nintendo to offer a bunch of previews right now for games that aren't to be released until next year for a bunch of gaming enthusiast babies who spoiled this shit for themselves by hyping themselves up into a frenzy. The general consumer is going to be walking into stores all the way leading up to Christmas and losing their minds when they see a new Smash and Pokemon. The general consumer moves consoles.

In THIS fiscal year what do you think is going to move more consoles and make more money: Pokemon and Smash before Christmas OR TLOU2/Ghosts of Tsushima previews that the average consumer is going to have to be content just watching YouTube videos of for at least another full year? This is why people with good heads run gaming companies and people that work the register at GameStop come onto ERA and pretend to know what the hell they're talking about.

No matter what ends up releasing, the project is real.

That's the problem with getting inside news early: shit changes.

I agree.

Don't get me wrong - I don't want to hate on leakers that give us good information. But I feel like green text stories from 4chan's /v/ end up being true just as often as the regular stable of games journalists. But beyond that, you hit the nail on the head with the most frustrating part ... as soon as any particular leak gains traction, suddenly everyone has a source and can confirm.

So many "I guess the cat's out of the bag" tweets, as if they've known all along.

Star Fox Grand Prix very well may be real. Go back earlier in the thread and I was one that was hyped for it. I have faith in Retro. But we should be able to admit that this rumor lit up to the stratosphere over probably just one or two people actually having a source. But what do I know, maybe Nintendo will do a Retro direct next week and I'll look dumb as hell.

Well, yeah. Because often sources will confirm/deny information, rather than offer it.

That happens all the time in every kind of news.

I think that's how some rumours work. You don't always want to be the one to break something first. Once someone does it, then things get corroborated from other sources.

Little reason to announce or release more games this calendar year than what was slated currently at E3, IMO. Let Pokemon and Smash have their carefully curated E3 and let other games have their own time. Besides, Nintendo can announce things year round. No reason to cannibalize Retro's project (or other first party productions) going up against Smash and Pokemon this E3. Obviously Nintendo has more in the pipeline, some maybe pushed to next year simply to give them there own time. It makes sense to hold off huge productions as well to keep up with engagement and to scale with the number of consoles sold. Personally, I'm kind of shocked we even heard about 2019 titles like Fire Emblem.

Microsoft isn't announcing another console next year when X1X just came out.
