Im actually glad Sony is doing this. People can cry all they want it wont change the fact that the Playstation has then biggest instal base for Fortnite and Sony has the luxury on picking whether or not they want to share it with others. Playstation is the biggest reason Fornite is as big as it is now. If they want to they will do it, If they dont they wont. No crying from anyone is going to change what they're business decisions. Playstation owners will enjoy the massive base that plays on that system only. While not having to worry about any other base. This is Sony flexing their muscle, how they should when they want. With them providing all of he's wonderful first party games, and not changing all of their games into GaaS, I support their decision. Now This is my opinion, and its for sure not fact. But we all have our own opinions.

It's posts like this that make me question whether all messageboards have infiltrated by plants whose only purpose is to spout utter shite agendas and rile people up.

As someone who has bought Sony console's for over twenty years, there is no justification for their decision whatsoever and plenty of safeguards they could put into place if they were genuinely concerned.

Having a closed off online eco-system won't protect and retain their customers it will just drive them away.

Oh and Jokegeta, your opinion is anti-consumerist twaddle and contemptible.

I think I'm willing to call it.
Epic won E3.

There's no way they timed the launch of Fortnite on the Switch to be during E3 on accident. They leveraged this for maximum gaming social media effect and it went off to perfection right in Sony's face.

Clearly they couldn't get anything done behind the scenes with Sony so they took it to the court of public opinion and they picked the biggest gaming stage of the year to gavel the session open. And now the BBC is talking about cross play and cross progression in videogames during the news.

Kudos Epic.

-125 million players announced
-2 million Switch downloads in a single day
-Fortnite World Cup

It's like a perfect storm of focus.

You can't be this stupid, it's about selling the system. " Hey so and so has it on ps4 oh cool I'll get a switch and play with him! What I cant do that? Alright I'll get a ps4 then."

You can't be this stupid? This isn't about cross-play. How many times does people have to point that out? I have a PS4 and a Switch, but this discourages me from playing on PS4.

Found the video, and he steers away from it immediately when asked, saying just that "the decisions our competitors make is in their own hands" when asked about it, and then gets immediately back on brand about pitching the Switch.

http://video.foxbusiness.com/v/5797689971001/?#sp=show-clips
He didn't steer away, he blamed Sony in a subtle way.

He said "the decisions they make are in their hands, we control our decisions, we think honouring Epic's vision and honouring what the consumers want is the right thing to do"

aka

"We are doing the right thing and Sony isn't"

Yeah. Phil seems like a super good dude.

His interview with Jeff was great.

He's a guy who makes me want to support their next platform, would be great if they could put the pieces together for the next box and have that be a reality.

He was also doing his best to not call Sony out directly when Jeff asked him about this issue. That was admirable on his part, I thought. He generalized the issue and said it's bad for gamers and developers.

Phil always seems real genuine and he's a gamer. Xbox is on a good path and I wish Sony would follow that path too.

That guy justifying Sony locking the Fortnite account makes total sense since it seems like his Resetera account is also locked by Sony.

How is Sony locking the Fortnite accounts? The accounts belong to Epic and as far as I know Sony is not managing those accounts, mind sharing your sources on Sony handling Epic's accounts?

They make a specific epic account to only be used on ps4 so you can't possibly be locked out of your purchases. And then it's its own little bubble, protected from all the baddies
How does that work though? If you play Fortnite on PS4 with that specific account, how is that any better or different than today's situation? That just mean that you have to create another Epic account on the other systems, which is something you can already do, and you wont be able to transfer your progress in that case either.

Is this what trollbaiting looks like? Because you are the stereotypical definition of a fanboy.

BTW "Sony Flexing their muscles" sounds like the set up for a gay slash fiction starring you and a humanized version of the company.

EDIT: nvm I read your response. It's OK, we've all made mistakes some time in our lives just because we didn't researched enough, it's not a big deal.

No. It's as simple as what's right, and what's wrong, and what Sony did was fucking wrong.

Sony responed with "fuck off we have the numbers" to BBC. Sadly it's over.
Unless Epic do something. Epic don't know how powerful they are. They could say to Sony " hey open people's accounts or say goodbye to the game on the platform" and that will force Sony hands because Fortnite is a monster. Epic won't though because we don't really matter that much.

I don't think it's over. If this keeps up it will be impossible to wave away.

Mainstream coverage and a potential resulting stock bump could be enough ammo for the reasonable higher ups in PS to convince whoever decreed this, which let's face it is probably Sony Japan.

It is. You cannot play on Xbox (or Switch) and then on PS4 any more than you can play on PS4 and then play on Xbox (or Switch).

There's a difference between fighting for change and fighting a crusade.

No, you can. You can play on Xbox or Switch and then UNLINK YOUR ACCOUNT and play fine on the PS4. You can't play on the PS4 when your account is linked to the other two, but unlinking from them works.

It doesn't work the other way around, and THAT'S what everyone is pissed off about. You can't play on PS4, unlink, and then go back to one of the other platforms. Your account is PERMANENTLY locked on the PS4.

So in theory you could spend $200 on Switch Fortnite purchases, unlink your account, link it to a PS4 and then no longer have access to those purchases on a Switch?

It's like getting pissed on but being okay with it since you have an umbrella.

Damn dude, there is actually no reason for you, as a consumer who doesn't even play Fortnite, to be against cross play. You're basically stating that you want other people to be miserable which makes you look like a dick.

Yeah, no. Removing the game from PS4 and allowing the players there to retain their items on an iPhone or even a Switch is not a solution. Allowing me to keep my items on a version of the game that looks and runs/plays like shit compared to the one that incentived me to get those items is not acceptable.

Far worse than what Sony is doing.

But players with multiple system would simply just move to the other system. The game runs similarly on Xbox. And players with only PS4 have Sony to blame for "Fuck the players" attitude and refusing Epic request to adjust this stupid policy.

We're talking theories here. Epic will never interfere with Sony business and they're probably the one who agreed on this with Sony from the beginning.

Sony loses the advantage that PS4 is only console that can access PS4 user base.

You realize that literally every single person affected by this account problem is a PlayStation user, right?

Even if they don't do crossplay, they should at the very least clear up the crossbuy issue as well as the account lock-out issue. I'd imagine a large amount of people would be happy with just those last two options being addressed... for their users.

Epic's vision for Fortnite is that it become a platform-agnostic service game, where your progression and purchases carry forward from platform to platform.
Sony is against this vision, presumably because it means that, if a player chooses to make Fortnite purchases on Xbox or Switch and then links that account to Playstation, Sony doesn't make any money. This directly conflicts with Epic's vision for their own game, which benefits us more than Sony's vision for making money on Fortnite purchases does.
As a result, Epic has chosen the most sensible route, the only one truly available to them as an option - to necessitate different accounts for Xbox and Playstation users, so that their progress and purchases can function in line with Epic's vision for the game but also in line with Sony's cross play policies.

I posted this response verbatim to you already. Are you just going to ignore every single post that you can't respond to by just saying "How is this Sony's fault?"? You've had this entire situation explained to you by several posters at this point. There's no reason people shouldn't start reporting you for trolling this thread, because people are responding to you and you're ignoring them in favor of regurgitating nonsense.

YES!

That's what everyone is pissed off about.

On one hand, this is shitty, unethical, aggressively anti-consumer behaviour.

On the other hand, have you seen how well Sony are doing in the NPD theads?

Honestly, it's so difficult to decide which side to take here.

The average person doesn't own a PS4 and an Xbox, it's pretty redundant to do so.

Anyway, you're right, they'll never do it. It would be far worse than what Sony is doing.

To think of all online problems that Nintendo have they are the now the most open plataform.
They don't lock free to play games behind a paywall and are ok with crossplay
