Sigh...killed Nito and found a message that said 'amazing armor ahead'. Apparently it's in reference to the paladin armor I had no idea about. This is the first I'm researching this Leeroy character I was supposed to kill first. Oh well.
Did the same thing with the Xanthous set on my playthrough. The only difference is I was aware of it. I just forgot phantoms don't spawn once you've dispatched the boss.

But if you don't want to miss scenarios like that in the future, be sure to be in human form as much as possible. ;)

Best advice, folks. You gotta stay in human form. That way you get to see as much as possible.

There is also this item called dried fingers if you haven't heard of it. Funny thing it is...

Platinum get! My run through the first half of NG++ was a bit of a mess. I got cocky and I paid the price, repeatedly. Died to a gaggle of wankers in Undead Burg. Died attempting to fight Taurus Demon honourably. Died to that twat of a bridge dragon. Died to the gang of rotten fucks on the way up to gargoyles. Tried to parry a snakeman's face time after time, and died like an absolute fanny. Got tangled up in Quelaag's legs and ate her big boom.

But I danced through Anor Londo and nothing could touch me. Turned out the lights before I left, and that's that.

I'll replay it someday as a holy knight instead of a slippery DEXmonster. What a game.

What's this dark spell that invaders are using to 1-shot me? I don't even see a projectile or anything, they just cast something next to me and then I'm dead.
Most likely Dark Bead. Very OP spell with low stat requirements. At a distance it spreads out and can only tickle, but up close all the beads are converged and you get the full force of it.

So I decided to restart my game with a different build.. Battle Mage. INT Focus with Sorcercies / Enchanted Weapons / Med. Shield / Light Armor... and it's fun as fuck. Once you get Crystal Soul Spear everything just melts, and anything that tries to get in Melee range explodes. I think this is my favorite build yet. Once I hit NG+ I'm putting some points into STR and rocking Moonlight GS while I finish up my Plat.

Yeeeesh, trying to cut Kalameet's tail with the Painted Guardian Sword is terrible - you can be right up close and 2 out of 3 swings still miss due to it's range.

This is exactly what I did for my platinum run, except I never even bothered with any melee weapons other than MGS. It's an OP build for PVE.

I'm currently doing a new run with a faith-based character two-handing the zwiehander. My "rules" for this run are that miracles are okay (I've never used them before in this game) but no sorcery, no pyromancy, and no shield. It's definitely more challenging, but it's fun, and I'm summoning whenever I feel like just getting past a boss. The zwhiehander is a nice change of pace from sorcery since in just rips through shields.

Man, the crystal cave sucks. It's a cool concept but the paths that TURN are just poor execution.

Channeler's Trident is the Dark Souls of rare weapon drops. Been at this for hours with 10 humanity and my gold serpent ring. Nothing. Getting real good at this run + Homeward though.

Just that and my Gwyn/Sif soul weapons and that'll be 100%.

Shieldless curved sword run, finished. All the bosses I was dreading - Kalameet, Manus and Gwyn were first try, one and done.

I kind of gained a little place in my heart for the Painting Guardian Sword - nice damage, useful running attack and bleed was handy on several bosses and big enemies. I still hate that delayed swing of the normal attacks, but I'm a rapier guy and both these weapon types share the lack of a kick, so I can't hold that against curved swords any more - it sucks for any weapon type.

I think Faith/STR next. I feel like slamming some metal after all those swishy swings!

There's only one isn't there, the one to the blue slab. All the others are straight lines.

I'm trying not to use a walkthrough...is this one not mandatory? I've fallen off of it like 5 times now.
Try using the orange soapstone to map out the path. You'll still fall a few times, but it makes re-tries a lot easier and less stressful.

Oops. Sorry yes, the winding one is to a blue slab.

Yeah, that other path in Crystal Cave was a revelation to me as well. So many times through there, and had no idea. LOL

Also, Four Kings NG+ with BSS +15 and Sunlight Blade with stamina stacked was so much fun. Really allowed me to move around with ease, get out of the way of the grab/AoE, and dodge attacks well. What was one of the most frustrating fights for me with a heavier strength build became one of my favorites. This game is really cool that way in that different builds make the game feel so unique. I think I might like this more than Bloodborne now, but I'm gonna have to play that one fresh again, and with different weapons.

The backstabbing in PVP is such garbage. How am I supposed to avoid it when on my screen the guy is still 5 feet in front of me?

A little bit off-topic perhaps, but I was wondering if anyone has experience with these two books:

Dark Souls: Beyond the Grave Volume 1 & 2.

Are these worth it if you're interested in the lore of the franchise? (VaatiVidya having done the preface for the first one bodes well in that regard.) Or are these just cheap cash-ins, riding the franchise's popularity?

So far just Cash-ins since Dark Souls 3 ignored Dark Souls 2 events and the novels are more like fillers or story related to Souls world.

But if you like Souls world the novels would be worth reading.

The comics are dark toned but nothing really happens on those stories.

Invading at level ~50 or so is the most fun. Low HP means I die fast, but so do most people so it events out.

My faith/dex/pyro is wrecking shit up. Invading in the Painted World last night, I went from 0 humanity to 44 in a little over an hour. Wrath of the Gods is so good for taking out groups. Almost no backstab-fishing at all either, which makes it a lot more fun.

I still don't fully understand what method people are using to invade me in low level areas. Is it all people who deliberately maintain low level through to where they join the Darkwraiths, or are there some "normal" people (not pvp-specific builds) invading by some other method?

Probably mostly the latter, but you can get a few cracked red eye orbs early (behind Firelink shrine, where you pick up the mace and some homeward bones).

I don't invade in very low-level areas myself though. Never understood the appeal of killing defenseless noobs. Mid-game, with Depths at the very earliest but preferably between Blighttown and some post-LordVessel areas, is where the fun is. My favourite places to invade are Blighttown, Sen's, Anor Londo, Painted World, and Catacombs. New Londo is fun too but if you die, respawning at Firelink is pretty annoying.

Mind you, these two books aren't original stories related to the Souls universe. From what I understand they're more of an analysis of the lore and gameplay of the Soulsborne games. The first volume is about Demon Souls and Dark Souls 1 & 2; volume 2 is about Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3. The few reviews I've read so far have been positive, so maybe I'll just give the first one a try.

And that's that. Can't believe I did it. Only other series 100% I have is Bloodborne. Might look at the others to see what I have left. Fun to realize how quickly I can cut through the critical path of this game now.

Again, I was a naysayer about this remaster during the network test, but I'm so glad I bought it. I had a blast, the community is thriving (so many summon opportunities), and while I had some disconnects where I got kicked, zero crashes and it ran buttery smooth in 99% of the situations. I think Dark Souls might be my favorite of all the FromSoft games now.

Damn. I have two if you want one? I won't be on for another 5hrs or so. DM me if you want to summon.
Thanks! It's all good. Finally got it after another hour or so. :P

I love to invade at low levels - but never with the intention of killing newbs. I like to scare them :) Sometimes I'll punch them to within a fraction of their health and then back off

I do not remember the Tomb of Giants being pitch black on the PS3 version. I just grabbed that skeleton lantern thing so I should be okay. I love the atmosphere there.

Playing through the game for the first time since the PS3 era feels pretty fresh. I forgot how vertically integrated some of these areas truly are. DS2 and DS3 do not have that sense of connectivity.

I can tell invasion is smoking hot right now. Went human and before I could even finish mucking around the game kicked me out of the bonfire menu to go fight an invader. Rude!

There quite few stories and vaaty tends to fly over the edge in some of them on his analysis of the game if he is somehow involved. But yes you should give a try but like I said Dark Souls 3 quite ignored Dark Souls 2 in several aspects, a shame since Dark Souls 2 tried its best to be placed on a different realm than the first one, its quite interesting the curse there acts different and later revealed if was intentionaly free by some people

What the actual fuck? How am I supposed to get through the beginning area of tomb of the giants? It's dumb as fuck! I can't see anything and there are constant random drops. I know to look at the lights but they are not very helpful. Who designed this game and what were they on?!

The lights are traps mostly , if you killed the necromancers one have a chance to drop the skull lantern that lights the area or if you saved Dusk she sells a Light spell which requires 16 int to use

Weapons are Demon's Spear + 0 and Fire dagger + 0 though b/c of weapon matchmaking
This is a char that I killed 4 Kings and Artorias with only a Blacksmith Giant Hammer + 0.

That's certainly true. Interesting videos, but he should be more mindful of the Everyone is Jesus in Purgatory trope.

If you go to Lost Izalith, right before Bed of Chaos, you can get a helm called Sunlight Maggot. You wear it and it casts some light. It's pretty handy. You could also used a leveled up bow and try and shoot some skeletons in the beginning to clear it out. The first bonfire isn't far from the start of Tomb of Giants. Look for the eyes of the Skeletons to see in the dark. You can shoot them before you move further down.
