I feel like even if he wasn't blocked from making a public appearance somewhere, he'd have to be a brave motherfucker to go. People are going to want to shit all over him.

I'm not against age gaps in general in relationships, but the fact that Hardwick was in his 40's while Chloe was 23 always skeeved me out. Chloe mentioned that when they got together, he was still broken up over his prior relationship with Janet Varney. Janet it pretty much the same age as Hardwick, so I always got the sense he wanted someone younger - and therefore easier to control - as his partner, since dude clearly had issues.

His show is set to premiere on AMC tomorrow night. Hopefully they pull the plug.

He's interviewing Donald Glover, but the interview was already taped a month ago. I'm sure Donald Glover can't be happy about it

Not Hardwicky enough.

"That sweet Samus cosplay ass you're gonna be taking in is gonna have your dick harder than Ben Grimm from the Fantastic Four. Your girl best stay put like the robot R2-D2 when Luke landed on Dagobah and be ready like Marty McFly waiting for the lighting to strike the clock tower and juice up his DeLorean, because when you get back you're going to want to have sex like MAIN CHARACTER in POPULAR 80'S MOVIE. If she's not, then she's not worthyyyy. She's not worthyyyy. Remember Wayne's World?"
Oh god.

I'm not that familiar with Hardwick, is he literally Ready Player One: The human being?

This is horrifying but also extremely common. I hope this brings to light other abusive relationships and make the victims somehow feel like they are in a dangerous situation.

I know a girl who was in this kind of relationship until very recently. She's been with the guy for almost 5 years, and after he decided to physically abuse her, she left and is single now. Only after this fallout did she say that he made her delete her Facebook account multiple times because he didn't want her to talk to other guys, and he also made her stop singing (she was a relatively famous singer in her town). It's easy to say that the victim can just walk away, but they really can't. It's extremely hard to walk away from someone, especially someone like that.

The age gap clearly bothered him.
Matt and Jonah, sometimes even guests who were a bit close to Hardwick, often joked at his expense about their age difference.

Started off the relationship as a controlling trash person, and it seems clear that instead of dealing with his shit like a grown up, got even worse and took it out on her. What a clichéd dipshit...

Are you sure? It still shows up on their schedule:
https://www.amc.com/schedule

You're right, I think I might have mistaken this quote in the Hardwick response article for something more definitive.

Since Dykstra went public with her claims earlier today, pressure has been building on AMC to halt the June 17 Season 2 debut of Talking With Chris Hardwick, either permanently or at least until a full investigation into the actress' claims is conducted.

I went looking and all I can find is an article saying that they're considering the requests. Sorry for misleading you.

Just going to add on, as I know they people have, that this can come from women towards men as well. It's not as common, obviously, but one of my ex girlfriends did a lot of stuff to physically stop me from seeing friends and generally having a life outside of her and then would be like "Why don't you hang out with your friends more??" It's really easy to start rationalizing this behavior, especially if you're financially tied to the person (ie you live together and can't afford the place on your own if you break up). Walking away, even in this kind of relationship, can be hard to do.

Didn't mean to try and one-up or anything, just sharing an additional experience.

Wow. Almost word for word corroborating one of the worst parts of the allegations.. In his own book

Can anyone confirm that this is definitely from his book and not parody? I'm absolutely, 100% not going to bat for the guy, but this short passage so perfectly makes the case for the fact that he's a miserable, embarrassing psychopath that also apparently rambles incoherently (i.e. immediately segueing into a "bowling with Jon Hamm" story!?!?) that I'm really suspicious that it might actually be fake. Because if that's real then holy shit. Why has nobody called him out on that before!?!?

Edit: as an update, I can not verify myself but I'm told it's fake by someone with access to the book.

I looked at the original tweet, don't know for sure that's it's real. Original poster said it was brought to their attention, meaning they must have gotten it from somebody else.

Would like additional confirmation that it's actually a passage in his book.

I noted in an update that it seems to be fake. Mind you, I don't have access to the book personally, but someone else searched the exact phrase and related terms and didn't find it. Found Delorean and bowling mentions, but not that damning excerpt.

Someone at that age has only been an adult for five years, so they really don't stand a chance against someone nearly twice their age.

Even the most mature 23 year old isn't ready for some of the tricks that can only come from decades of dating experience.

I'm also not against gaps, but I feel like people in their 20s should try to stick close to their age group. But of course all of this can still happen with someone your age.

He just sounds like a psycho.

If that snippet from his book is faked, that's a fucked up thing to do. There's absolutely no need to muddy the waters like that.

My assumption is that it's probably just something taken out of context where the original source would probably make it clear that it's parody. Like that pixelated boat passage from the Trump tell-all about how White House staffers had to create a fake Gorilla Channel for Trump to watch. If you knew that the source of that image was pixelated boat, your first reaction probably wouldn't be "holy shit is this true!?!?" You'd just assume it was parody and laugh at it.

Can confirm. Just got the ebook of The Nerdist Way and did a search for some of those keywords in the tweet (like revved, DeLorean, etc).

That passage seems completely falsified. (I'm about 99% sure, unless my app is somehow not finding the text, which I doubt)

Fucking people, just stop it. What Hardwick did is enough to condemn him without having to muddy the waters with this stuff.

I think at this point the only people we should be listening to on the subject are Chloe and Chris' own accounts, especially as this is liable to move into litigation territory soon. Twitter is not a reliable resource for this shit and it never will be.

Agreed and I feel bad for not even having the presence of mind to research for myself before ingesting it as true. This kind of bullshit, whoever did it, helps no one and just makes things worse.

This doesn't change my thoughts as to Chris's culpability as so much first-hand corroboration from his former employees/coworkers leaned me towards believing that Chris committed what he is being accused of.

I never liked Hardwick going all the way back to when he was on Attack of the Show. He always gave me a skeevy used car salesman vibe. He just always seemed like a phony.

Whoever faked that book excerpt is a complete scumbag, no need for that shit.

I thought Hardwick's response was damning enough. Took the entire day to release a carefully-worded lawyer approved statement (to a select few outlets on a Friday night at midnight), didn't dispute any of her allegations aside from saying "at no time did I sexually assault her", went after her credibility by painting her as a cheating jilted ex-girlfriend, acted like he's not capable of doing bad things because he's "a husband, a son, and future father" (seriously, wtf). His statement was not a good look at all imo.

Chris Hardwick Pulled From AMC Show, San Diego Comic-Con

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/l...e=twitter&utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral

AMC has pulled Chris Hardwick's talk show after an allegation of sexual assault from his ex-girlfriend Chloe Dykstra.

"We have had a positive working relationship with Chris Hardwick for many years," said the network in a statement on Saturday. "We take the troubling allegations that surfaced yesterday very seriously. While we assess the situation, Talking with Chris Hardwick will not air on AMC, and Chris has decided to step aside from moderating planned AMC and BBC America panels at Comic-Con International in San Diego next month."

Accusing him of sexual assault was probably a bridge too far, because it allows him to claim innocence of that one charge and argue the strict legal definition of the term. People will jump to his defense on that too, while ignoring all the other claims or dismissing them as him just being a crappy boyfriend.

Well, if it's true, it's true. But at this point, it is a he said/she said situation.

It'll be interesting to see how AMC "assesses the situation" with that. This isn't a case with numerous women coming out against him so I'm not sure how much they can assess.

Damn, it's surprising how quick everyone is acting. It's impressive. I wonder if this has to do with the fact that he's a C-List celebrity at best and not, say, Johnny Depp.

Yeah, there's a distinct difference between, "hey, I'm sober, so if we're out together, please don't drink" and it being part of basically a list of demands for a relationship to continue.
I don't even think it would've been a bad thing if it had been a demand in order for the relationship to continue. If that's a deal-breaker for someone, it needs to be communicated so both people don't end up wasting their time.

But he didn't even make a demand, he just ordered her to stop drinking like she was his pet dog.

If the Depp thing happened today, I think reaction would be a bit more swift. But that was also a very strange situation with multiple people coming out in strong defense of both of them.

He's pretty D-List its gonna be easy to make this guy disappear and wipe their hands clean.

Talking with Chris Hardwick
Talking Dead
At Midnight
Hall H Doctor who (with the female doctor, how awkward would that have been)
Some other SDCC thing he was hosting that I forget.

Yeah he's D-list but he was pretty ubiquitous. I feel like Aisha Tyler is gonna be hosting everything soon.

A soap star is D list. He is very clearly above that.

But as someone mentioned earlier, if the Jonny Depp situation had happened just a year later, the reaction might have been so different.

C-List is the right term for him. He's a talk show guy but he doesn't really perform in anything and if you don't pay attention to the nerd-culture stuff he hosts you probably have no idea who he is. His star doesn't stretch very far.

I suspect AMC will replace him as host with Yvette Nicole Brown or something.
